Honestly, this was a really difficult place to work. The only positive part was a small number of genuine, drama-free coworkers—but those were rare.

The overall atmosphere was full of gossip, had lack of accountability with management, and constant unnecessary competition over sales. A lot of the staff members that worked longer and was apart of the “clique” would avoid their responsibilities and leave to the newer hires and others to pick up the slack. There was clear favouritism that ran the store, and if you weren’t part of it, the experience is often to be a lot worse, no matter your role (cashier, sales, or stock).

The experience also depended heavily on who you were working with. On the rare days you were scheduled with the right people who would actually do their work and not be belittled, micro managed or be assigned with tasks that weren’t related to your role, it felt manageable. 

Otherwise, working here was often quickly mentally draining, mainly because of how horrible things were handled by management.

Management was inconsistent and often unprofessional. It felt like blame would be placed on employees instead of actually solving problems or having managers admit their mistakes. There was a lot of micromanaging, and at times it felt like you were being watched and assigned extra tasks that weren’t stated in the job description to begin with. The support was very difficult to ask for.

There was also very little understanding when it came to employee well-being. Calling in sick or for emergencies could be stressful due to NO response, as it didn’t always feel like policies were applied fairly and only beneficial for the staff that was most favoured. 

Professionalism on the floor wasn’t always maintained, and visible frustration from management in front of staff and customers made the environment even more uncomfortable.

Advice to management:
Create a more fair and respectful environment. Better communication, consistency, and basic support for employees would make a huge difference.

Although the company promotes strong values and offers some benefits like paid breaks, discounts, and occasional snacks, my day-to-day experience was far from aligned with those ideals.

There is a clear imbalance in how opportunities and recognition are distributed. Advancement often felt influenced by internal networks rather than performance or merit. Sales goals were frequently unrealistic for those without external sales tools, and credit distribution created daily tension on the floor.

Feedback was not always welcomed, and raising valid concerns often led to social exclusion or reduced hours—rather than meaningful dialogue. Workplace decisions, such as scheduling or food provision, lacked fairness and showed little awareness of employee needs, including religious or cultural considerations.

While a few colleagues were genuinely supportive, the broader culture felt isolating and unwelcoming, especially for those outside favored groups. The company would greatly benefit from holding leadership accountable and making inclusion something that’s practiced, not just promoted in branding.

When I started at coach as a back of house associate, I was excited as it was a new opportunity for me to showcase my skill set in an environment I had never worked in. My Co workers were so supportive of me and helped me whenever I needed help, however Management I wish I could say the same. If you are looking for an environment where you can be yourself, socialize with customers, and show off your unique personality this isn’t the place. The managers make Coach Vaughan mills a toxic environment. Management gets mad when you act friendly and socialize with your co workers even while you’re getting your work done. They also have their favourites that they’ll never get mad at. During a sale I was making, a gentleman had inquired about purchasing 5-7 bags for his sister in England with his sister on an FaceTime call and wanted my recommendations. I helped him and he was grateful and we had a friendly conversation for a little bit only because the store wasn’t busy. My leads that day weren’t very happy with me because they don’t value good customer service and being friendly. Being friendly with the customer by their standards meant you were wasting your time and could be doing other things. Isn’t the point of sales to sell items with great customer service and to keep the customer coming back? Not at coach Vaughan mills they have other priorities. Save yourself & Value yourself. You are much more than this place and you won’t be properly compensated for the work you put in here. Such a shame.

When I first started at Coach it was fun cause all the employees are like best friends with each other. 2 months later hired 8 new employees all were Asian and everyone came to find out that they were getting paid more and getting priority hours based on the fact that they could communicate with resellers. The management consisted of 6 managers. The 3 senior managers did whatever they wanted too from coming in late to taking extra hours for lunch all the time AND they never faced any consequences. I remember them constantly yelling at the 3 junior members about being to friendly with employees, being late once or twice, and trying to take control of their jobs so they were not relevant. Overall very toxic environment, constantly being threatened to have hours cut if sales targets weren't met once or twice, and favoritism towards Asians. I was under paid for the amount I would do, like train new employees, coming in early to change set up, staying later than scheduled to help keep the store clean.  Was given duties like a manager but was paid less than employees after me.

Coach hires quality candidates that they can grow and develop over a long period of time. They look for employees who are willing to learn and can stay within the company for the long term. A typical day at Coach can involve any number of things from assisting customers on the floor in a modern luxury way to processing shipment in the stockroom. Each individual location operates slightly different, of course, but what remains consistent amongst all of the buildings is the strong level of teamwork. Management teams for the most part are fair and understanding, willing to educate and teach junior members of the team. The hardest part of the job, as with any retail job, is having to stand for long periods of time and dealing with a range of customers who may not always be friendly or polite. The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to work with different kinds of people and forming strong bonds and camaraderie with coworkers.

Fun, small workplace where you work closely with your fellow colleagues. Being a team player is a must which is good. Each colleague has sale goals that need to be reached each month and management does a good job of giving you tools on how to reach those goals. A typical day at work would be to open the store and to ensure that the sales floor was in pristine condition for customers to see the displays in good taste. Management provided product knowledge on new items that arrived into the store prior to the actual arrival so that we would be prepared as soon as they hit the sales floor. The most enjoyable part of the job was closely working with my  co-workers and working together towards and exceeding our sales goals each month.

The culture of the business is to enable clique behaviour and favouritism in staff based on sales and “family culture”. For example, if one associate is lacking in sales while another associate is performing in sales the associate performing is protected allegedly from poor responsibility and behaviour. Most of the team lack strong communication skills and the ability to act with proper business decorum. Essentially lack of accountability and ethics due to family culture environment. The team is enabled to behave in ways that make new people feel welcomed if they do not want to participate in the “family culture dynamic”. 

From my experience all employees start off as seasonal workers. At the end of the holiday season, if you are good enough, you will be asked to stay as a permanent employee, if needed. This means that most permanent employees have been with Coach for many years, or already have previous experience in higher end retail. The culture wasn't for me, but could be perfect for others. Everyone was much older than I was. Only the seasonal workers were young. Super busy holiday season, otherwise business can be slow, but the permanent employees all had their own clientele. All employees are very welcoming and friendly. Excellent training process. 

Working for coach was amazing, with the brand name, its history and its business global standing. With regular hours rotational shift (not 9-5 job) . Some Co workers are good and supportive, however some can be aggressive with sales( its not commission based, so what more if it is) However there are a lot of struggles working for this brand (probably not all location) less work force more work load, less managers more responisbility, lazy manager gives employees the reason not to care for the job. Unprofesional stuff, too much drama within store

Typical day would include helping customers with purses, wallets and jewellery . Doing refunds and exchanges on merchandise. Ordering out of stock items for customers online so that it could be directly sent to their home. I learned a lot about leather goods and coach products. The management team was made up of very positive people who always encouraged us to do our best. Hardest part of my job was learning all the different types of purses that we carried and the names of them all. The most enjoyable part was the sales team that i got to work with.
