Typical day at work was great. Always busy and had something to do. Come at 8 am, work, then get off at 4 pm, sometimes 10-6. Closed as many tickets as the senior techs. 

What I learned is, I don't suggest working here. The IT Director isn't people friendly and has zero experience in Management. They don't hold new staff because of that. HR doesn't do anything but listen to whatever the IT Director says. Does not fit the job description. 

Expected to work in a non-hierarchical environment with little direction other than work on tickets. 

One moment is good with the IT Director, the next they're trying to incriminate you to find a reason to let you go. Mine was barely passable for a reason and coworkers were told different reasons. Probably because it would make the IT Director look bad.

Claims to have good security but wont follow basic industry standard security.. I made suggestions based on my education and experience. Hasn't happened, vulnerable. 

If you're certified in anything IT, I'd stay clear. You'll be met with the stuff you learned not being followed. If you try to correct it or make suggestions, watch your back.

The IT department is stocked full of sycophants and a toxic director. Everyone in the department looks out for themselves. The director is a bully who will promise you promotion one minute and then level false claims against you the next. HR is nothing but a puppet for these unethical cowards. 
A typical day was to perform rudimentary computer related tasks that were often easily solved. The department often takes the hard way as the thinking is rooted in old ideologies that are not modern and unable to adapt to the changing technologies in IT. Unfortunately, this lack of vision holds back the college from being a top tier institution, and in the end the students suffer.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Profesional development and thorough job specific training.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Peak work load is seasonal with enrollment and registration of students.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very professional work environment. Some long term employees can be condescending and controlling.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Open campus buildings in the morning. Varied work day with responding to emails, phone calls and in person inquires.

In my experience and opinion;
Poor management 
Senior techs have checked out waiting for retirement.
Poor cyber security management(in over his head, overzealous). Infrastructure is a mess and director blames predecessors. 
Political atmosphere, lots of back stabbing, watch your back. 
IT director has a pattern of firing people on shady grounds.
Fired several techs in last year. 
HR is a computer illiterate company yes-man. 
They are intimidated by intelligence. 
THIS COMPANY WILL DAMAGE YOUR CAREER!!

Coast Mountain College is a great place to use your skills, and feel like your work makes a difference. There is a feeling of investment in ensuring better outcomes for students in BC's beautiful Northwest region. Senior leadership are highly supportive and approachable. Employees feel like part of a community, there is genuine caring and people are allowed to be themselves, which makes it an enjoyable place to work. The First Nations culture of the region adds to making it a special and unique organization.

Have witnessed lots of positive change during my years at the College. Management ethics and accountability have improved. The college facilities have undergone major upgrades. Strong staff have been empowered, negative unproductive employees have moved on. The future of the organization is looking increasingly bright. A beautiful part of the world to live and work.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The pettiness, the mixed messages, the unclear standards for different individuals based on gender.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Slow paced, pat eachother on the back for doing nothing.

After many years working in the IT industry, that's the very first time I see the open door policy really working.
Innovation is highly supported by senior leadership, especially by the IT Director who has done outstanding work replacing end-of-life products with new products to bring the best experience to students. 
Should you want to make a difference at work, Coast Mountain College is the right place for you.

Overall it is quite a dysfunctional workplace.  Lots of gossip, back stabbing and blaming.  Not all departments are the same, but  some have managers that give no real direction or support.   There were some supportive people who worked there, but the good ones never seemed to last.

I found a friendly and collegial workplace at Coast Mountain College as the day starts with greetings with colleagues and sips of coffee. What most amazed me is that I learn something new from the college community every day. I enjoy the adequate resources to perform my job.
