I have been working at the CPSO for several years now and have seen many great investigators being "let go" because they spoke up against bad management and terrible policies that compromised the integrity of our investigations. If you get hired here as an investigator, you will have to accept the fact that you will be given optics-driven directions that are ultimately detrimental to the public (whom we're meant to protect) as well as the physician membership themselves. If you push back, Management will try to find a reason to fire you. If they can't find a reason, they will simply fire you without cause. Trust me: in all the years I've been here, every investigator who has tried to be a voice of reason has been let go (I can think of only one such person who has managed to hold on). If you're hired here, just keep your mouth shut and do whatever Management says, no matter how much the direction might compromise the quality of your investigations. If you are not comfortable with toeing the line against your better judgment (or sense of duty to conduct quality investigations), I suggest you take your skills elsewhere.

My team was fantastic to work with. Unfortunately, I learned that this fantastic team was shielding me from seeing the real dysfunction across the management and leadership teams. The recent change in leadership has been hard for many to navigate and the constant changes are not communicated in a way that builds trust in the decisions being made. Optics have become the focus and it's too bad because great work is done here when  professional staff are permitted the appropriate control over their work. It makes no sense to hire and pay for smart people who work here only to act like they can't be trusted. 

I really enjoyed working here, until I just couldn't ignore the unclear and questionable decisions being made, and saw inequitable application of HR policies and procedures. 

The CPSO used to be a fantastic place to work but now the leadership and its direction make for a demoralizing work climate. Nobody speaks during any of our meetings because we know that at best we won't be listened to, and at worst we will be bullied by management for speaking up. If you choose to work here as an investigator, brace yourself for optics-driven decision-making, ineffective management, and arbitrary firings every 3 months or so to instill fear in the staff. 

claims work life balance but expects same amount of work to get done even when team gets smaller or more responsabilities, unpaid overtime and taking advantage of employees real commitment to the work and each other 

You will be reprimanded for speaking up and advocating for yourself. Be careful! They claim there is a very accepting workplace culture, which is far from the truth. If you're honest, transparent or assertive, this is NOT the place for you. 

 There is a complete lack of communication from managers and blame will be placed on you because of their misdirection and poor training. Hostile environment is created and motivation diminishes because of passive aggressive behaviour and disrespect in front of others. It's dehumanizing and speaks to the high turnover rate. 


The CPSO is an excellent place to work - great management, great coworkers, and most importantly, important work that affects everyone in Ontario. While the culture is undergoing change with new leadership, the organization as a whole is moving towards an excellent place. I can't recommend it enough

Was very excited for this job and to be exposed to a downtown fast paced environment. However, in queue with my personality i had known that this job would not suit me very well and for that reason it was not as great of an experience as it would be to someone suiting a fast paced lifestyle.

Although the work was very rewarding, the caseload was ridiculous (60-80 plus cases) and the liability was very concerning.

Work life balance was almost non-existent.  The CPSK is severely understaffed.

CPSO is a great place to work. The expectations are high but reasonable. The workplace atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. It's not a large organization, so most people know each other.
