After completing my first month working at Collicutt as a service technician, I have noticed several positive aspects about the way the company operates and how technicians are supported in the field.
One of the biggest advantages I have seen is the level of trust and flexibility given to technicians. We are provided with company credit cards so we can purchase necessary parts or supplies when needed. This allows us to quickly resolve issues for customers without going through long approval processes with multiple managers or departments. Many times, if a customer needs something immediately, I can simply go to a nearby supplier, pick up the part, and complete the repair right away. This saves time for both the technician and the customer and helps maintain a positive relationship with the client. Customers are happy because their generator is repaired quickly, and management benefits because problems are solved efficiently.
Another thing I have noticed is the strong team support within the company. Everyone seems willing to help each other regardless of department. At some workplaces, employees tend to only focus on their own department, but here it feels more collaborative. Even if a job is not originally assigned to me, I can still assist another technician if needed. This teamwork makes the work environment much more positive and productive.
I also appreciate the way Collicutt approaches training and development. If a technician is not familiar with a specific system or task, they are paired with another technician who has experience in that area. This allows us to learn properly instead of being sent out alone and expected to figure everything out ourselves. Many companies send technicians out without support, which can create unnecessary stress. Here, the approach is more supportive and focused on learning.
In my case, even though I already have about five years of experience in the power generation industry, I still find it helpful to work alongside other technicians when necessary. Many of these jobs are safer and more efficient when done as two-person tasks. I appreciate that Collicutt recognizes the importance of safety and proper manpower instead of pushing technicians to complete everything alone.
Day-to-day work is also well managed. For example, if I complete an inspection or service early, management often asks if I would like additional work for the day. If I say yes, they quickly assign another job so I can stay productive. I don’t have to search for work or request tasks repeatedly—work is provided when available. At the same time, the workload is balanced. It keeps technicians busy without overwhelming them.
Another positive experience was how quickly I was equipped to start working. Within my first week, I was assigned a service truck and given the ability to take it home. The truck was already equipped with the necessary tools and fuel card, which allowed me to begin working in the field immediately. I did not have to go through a long process of testing in the shop or transferring my own tools, which made the transition into the role very smooth.
Overall, my experience during the first month at Collicutt has been very positive. The company provides strong support, values teamwork, prioritizes safety, and trusts technicians to do their jobs efficiently. Because of this, I feel comfortable in my role and look forward to continuing to grow with the company.

Came to this shop to get some experience with a different area of the trade. I was given an opportunity to work on a generator project my first week on the floor. Really enjoyed that project and learned a lot about power generation/natural gas engines. 

Spent a few months working in the accessory shop rebuilding components for transmissions and engines as well as tearing down transmissions for inspection prior to rebuild. Its a detail oriented job and the expectation is to do the best you can. There is a way they want things done that promotes accountability. It took a bit to get used to properly managing your time but it wasn't too big of a deal. 

Management for the most part was good. I was interested in another area in the company and was given the reality of the job which I appreciated. 

For me, the positives of this company are hard work is acknowledged, appreciated and rewarded. Advancement can be relatively quick as there is a pretty continuous turn over with personnel as long as you show initiative and hard work. Work schedule is good, Monday to Friday, 7 to 430 and Fridays are 7 to 330 with every second Friday off. 

Negatives for me was the area I wanted to get in to was a lot of away work and that wouldn't work out for my current situation. During the interview process it was not mentioned I was going to be working on frac equipment, so that was a bit disappointing when I was expecting to be working on generators. Pay is a bit low initially but they will give you a raise if you show promise. 

All in all, if I lived closer to red deer I would have stayed there. They were willing to do things to try and keep me around which was appreciated. The people there were great to work with and there is opportunity to get into power gen as long as you are willing to work away. 

Collicutt Energy really goes the extra mile when it comes to onboarding. I can say in the 8+ years I have been in the industry, I have never had such a welcoming first day. I was given a wonderful orientation completed by the HR team, provided a welcome lunch and was introduced to everyone individually in the office. The small personal touches really make a great first impression.

The Collicutt team truly cares about family and a proper work life balance. I have been fortunate enough to witness how they care about their staff and families. All departments are so welcoming, and you can see everyone is happy to come into work and have a great team dynamic. The local community involvement Collicutt has is also refreshing to see.

Collicutt has many departments and I have seen different departments working amongst each other or staff transferring between each other to give everyone an opportunity to grow/learn something new if they wish. If someone wants to learn more, there is never hesitation. Collicutt has a great safety culture as well.

The owner is always in the office, shop or around the facility. It is truly great to see, now in days you don't get to see that a lot. However, the owner makes that effort which I believe makes a great impression for everyone.

My manager has been absolutely wonderful to work with. Working alongside a very knowledgeable, kind and passionate manager is a great asset and I know I will learn valuable skills and knowledge from them. I am so happy to be a part of their team and look forward to what we will accomplish.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of working at Collicutt Energy is definitely the people and the support. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming from day one, and the teamwork here makes a huge difference. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part so far has just been adjusting to a new role and learning all the processes. There’s a lot of information at the start, which can feel a bit overwhelming, but the team has been really supportive and patient. Once you get into the rhythm, it becomes much more manageable.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The environment and culture at Collicutt Energy are very welcoming, supportive, and team‑oriented.  The People are friendly and willing to help.  Management seems very supportive of my Work-life balance requests as well as Learning and Growth mindset.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy!  Lol.  A typical day for me is a lot of interaction with Customers and Technicians.   One big puzzle with a lot of moving parts and I love it!

Initial interview was very pleasant. From the first day you can see how welcoming all levels of staff/departments are to new hires. The onboarding process is very thorough. From first day lunch with your department, an introduction to all employees, to a one on one check in after your first month was nice to experience. 

Being a family owned corporation provides a welcoming touch, and their care for our community is very present. Work environment and culture is friendly, it really feels like a team atmosphere with numerous people to support you along the way.  Feel as though there is opportunity for growth and development. 

You are urged to ask questions and have a voice in your department. Management has been nothing but friendly and supportive. The CEO and all upper management work on site and are very approachable. 

It is refreshing to see a corporation that seems to truly live its core values

Poor communication of tasks and expectations.  Micromanaged staff.  Lots of family working, but won't talk to staff. 

There are good people who try, but overall bad culture. Weird as have been in business a long time. 

Problem staff are not removed, and those cancers are left to spread in the office, and bully new good staff out. Speaking up with answers to problems only gets you canned. They are not looking to get better, just stay the same.  

High, HIGH turnover of people in all roles - office and shop.  Crazy high turnover. Lots of people let go for "bad fit" with no reason.  If you thrive in chaos, perhaps this is for you. Many cliques.  

Read other reviews, and it appears to be getting worse, with common themes. 

If you need a job, work here.  If not, avoid, as you won't be here long term.  

I have been working here now coming up on three months and so far I am really enjoying it.  Everything has met and or exceeded met my expectations, From the onboarding process to getting to know everyone in the office, shop and parts dep.
I believe they have created a very great, well diverse team here from  the top to bottom. 
I am working in the Frac div and I feel very lucky and proud to be apart of the team. It is well run, everyone seems to work well together and each shares there own strengths and knowledge day to day. Its both fun and challenging, Its a place that I can see myself continue to learn and grown as an HD mechanic for quite some time to come. 

Working in this industry can be extremely stressful, but here at Collicutt they provide a lot of support from all sides. They work with you to try and meet your goals and needs while listening and understanding. It truly is a breathe of fresh air that is not always found in now a days. Everyone works so well together and does their jobs which creates a great morale and work environment. You can immediately tell the work culture is elevated than most. Also because they are family owned they take in your ideas to help improve the process when possible. 

A typical day is engaging and keeps you on your toes in the best way. You're always doing something meaningful and the time flies. I learned a ton both technical skills and how to work well as part of a team. Management is supportive and genuinely cares about your development. The workplace culture is welcoming and collaborative; people look out for each other. The hardest part is keeping up during the busy season, but the team pulls together and makes it manageable. The most enjoyable part is the people and the sense of accomplishment at the end of the day you really feel like your work matters.

Great company to work with. My team is excellent knowing that everyone is ready to hit the floor running and help those who need to get up to speed. The pay is great, the hours are great, the overtime is excellent when available and the product we build is of the latest technology to help support the daily energy demands of a growing population. Collicutt is at the edge of energy supply and transformation from one energy source to the next, therefore the amount of skilful people and teams needed to accomplish this endeavour is thoroughly evident.
