Managers are bobble heads. No freedom of expression there. You will be labelled a bad apple if you disagree with a process. It’s our way or the highway. Managers do not know how to talk to employees like humans. They mostly rule by the fist rather than by using employee engagement. We are the best resource people! We know more than anybody else, how our environment revolves and where the defects are. We don't go to work to fail! We want to make suggestions that work best for all. The team working in the Burlington plant are top notch. I can honestly say most people there do not like their managers and just show up to produce and get paid. Robots. The leader is vain and wants to look fierce. Just a stepping stone for something better to come. It was once a fun place to work. Everybody had fun and laughed. Ever since UTAS took over, it went downhill very fast. DAM you! There's nothing wrong with working and laughing. Makes for a very productive environment! It's gotten Amerisized! Not sure what else to say. Had my share of great times, and dark time. Keep my head low and under the radar. COME ON 3PM!

I've worked as an engineer for over 30 years much of it on contract with several employers. Collins - Oakville was probably my least pleasant work experience to date. They have a very rigid and unique way of doing things and much of their analysis involves using older tools that are essentially 'black boxes' . There is no allowance made for learning to use and understand their in-house tools, many of which are not intuitive and you have serious doubts as to whether anybody there really understands them and why they spit out what they do. 

The work environment is not particularly collaborative, there is limited useful communication or direction. They don't really seem to value engineering and while there are some dedicated hard-working people there you don't get the feeling that anyone really likes it. 

The facility itself is old and overcrowded and whemn I was there parking was a major issue.  

As a been there done that reviewer, I have to fully agree with the previous review. If they hire permanent employees they are looking for 'yes men' and robots. They are making a very visible transition to contractors and letting go of employees, even long time employees, under the guise of 'workforce reductions' if they find it cheaper to use contractors. Salary and benefits are good (at present) but that fact is tempered with self serving bullies for managers who only look to pass on their work to their subordinates. Contrary to some of the positive reviews, there is no laughter or camaraderie but a lot of backstabbing, gossip and a very self serving culture. A huge change from the days as Goodrich where they promoted their 'people philosophy' where now you are truly only a number. Job security is non existent and the only way I would recommend taking a position with the company is to gain experience and move on.

Workday was the easiest job I had in my  life after 35 years of machining and mould making. Running proven programs. Long cycles basically wash rinse and repeat. Management was being manipulated by what was really happening down on the floor. Work culture I did not like as I came from a different background than most of the new hires. If you want to try aerospace for something different then ok. I was laid off to my surprise but I was very quick to recover with another position with a steelmaker with better salary and a more interesting workday. I had  a supervisor that did not like me and I think it was my higher age  that made him lash out at me numerous times.
I  worked weekend nights and never scrapped any landing gear. But I did see scrap from other people that still work at Collins.

I was offered a job after my Aerospace program ended, and early on I had a clear grasp on what was expected and how to do my job to the point where I was doing extra work to support my colleagues regularly.

I made my interest known to my manager that I wanted to expand my knowledge and grow within the company for the many years I was with them and I was told that it would happen, until recently, when the discussion came up again and I was told that I wasn't in a position to grow and that they would be looking for someone with an educational background for the position I was interested in.

Finding out that upward mobility was impossible showed me the extra work I had put in over the years was not valued.

This is one of those places you need to be ready mentally to work in. Excellent pay and benefits, and even if you are not an Aerospace nerd like me, you will often find yourself learning something new each day. It's one of those places where after a year you may not even know 1-5% of what is actually going on in that facility. Great senior leadership team, great management team and great coworkers. The only real issue is that if you don't specifically work with some people, you might never meet them. If I could go back there, I would take a job there for sure.

Lots of layoffs without warning. Pay is fantastic and so are benefits and pension but that is literally it. Coworkers are horrible. Always spying and rating on eachother.  Managing have never heard of empathy. Just sooo horrible and belittling. Always being reminded that you can be fired for the most trivial of things. Your just a number. Unless your from the old manasco goodrich days. If you are.then you can do whatever you want. It's pathetic and totally ridiculous how this place is run. 10 yrs was wasted with a horrible group of backstabbers. But the money is great. If you manage to not get laid off which realistically is gonna happen. 

Wages and benefits are top notch along with cost of living raises.This smaller business site is a nicer environment to work in , with a good mixture of people to work with .This is all due to the fact  you are on day shift. There are no shift rotations , therefore you are on afternoons , nights or a weekend shift for an extremely log period of time( over 10 years in a lot of cases ). This ways heavily on time with family and Friends .not an easy place to work in regards to balancing work and your personal life.

The workforce seems very engaged and there is a strong sense of purpose, pride, and a desire to deliver a quality product.  The only real challenge as of late is the turnover in management that is making my specific set of tasks and responsibilities a challenge.  I have not been micromanaged and I feel empowered to make decisions.  Pay and benefits have taken a hit since the acquisition of Rockwell Collins by UTC and then the added Merger of RTX and UTC.  Hopefully, those are cost-saving synergies that will be gradually returned to the workforce post-COVID.  

Favorable working conditions, and lots of red tape.  Machinists and operators do the exact same work, and the pay is only differentiated by the title. Easily the cushiest work conditions you'll find anywhere, but on the flip your skills will fade after doing the same setups week after week. Bit of a disconnect between machinists, management, and programming. Expect it to take nothing less than a full day to get a simple programming revision done. That said, the training and equipment is absolutely top notch, it is very worth it to get in here.
