Colonial Countertops

-I started with them as a machine operator and instead of machine operation, the middle management has asked me to do every other job including sweeping and mopping the whole shop, lunch room, outside area, washroom - basically treating you as a mere janitor. 
-That is also fine as that is also a job but when you clean everything after that the very next day or the next moment you will find your coworkers coming and shouting on your face saying that why did you clean my place and when you tell them that the supervisor asked to do so then they will go to supervisor complaining about you.
-Surprisingly the supervisor will scold you in front of them for doing what they asked you in the first place to do and 
-More surprisingly you will never ever find anybody else cleaning the shop. Nobody cleans it.
-Then the second worst thing is except namely two, the coworkers consider themselves above the supervisor and manager as usually in corporate world you have to follow hierarchy but its the opposite over here.
- the funny part is the both the supervisors who are in the company from 5 years and manager who is since 10 years obeys the operator who is since 7 years and does whatever he tells them to do and the middle management will not even listen to your side of story and do what this particular operator asks them to do.
-Third thing is keep your lunch or dinner safe as the employees of this company eat everyones food without permission.
-To conclude, I won't recommend this place as inplace of actual work, there is always drama in this company particularly burnaby branch.

I had the privilege of working for Colonial Countertops as CNC Junior Machinist, Install Helper, Bridge Saw/Waterjet Sawyer, Fabricator,  Programmer, and at the end Shop Foreman.  In my experience, there has been positive. One of the standout aspects of this company is its supportive nature and dedication to employee growth, both personally and professionally.

Positive Management and Open Culture:
Management is another significant highlight. They are fair, approachable, and always open to new ideas. I recently had the opportunity to work with Colonial Countertops for about six months, and it was an excellent experience. As a member of the IT team, I found my colleagues to be friendly, supportive, and collaborative. Everyone was always willing to help each other out, and there was a real sense of camaraderie within the team.

One of the perks of working at Colonial Countertops was the monthly free pizza lunches, which were a great way to bond with coworkers and take a break from our work. Despite these fun distractions, everyone remained highly productive and focused during work hours. Meetings were always efficient and to the point, which I appreciated as it helped me stay on top of my work and deadlines.

One of the standout aspects of my time at Colonial Countertops was the opportunity to learn from my manager and work with a variety of web development technologies. The hands-on experience and guidance from my manager helped me grow in my role and gave me valuable skills that I will take with me in my future endeavors.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Colonial Countertops, and I would highly recommend it as a great place to work for anyone interested in the IT field.

When I was there, there were lots of internal issues. I have heard it has changed and is much better now. 
The shops had lots of safety issues and not enough safety training. This was due to management not having enough time or not caring enough to fix issues as they arrived. Head office will fight against local managers to prevent giving raises, and if you do get a raise it will be minimal and begrudgingly. The only good manager when I was there has since retired and after she was no longer the manager it all went downhill.

I was in sales and admin, and when I started it was a great place to work. I didn't have any relevant experience, and my manager (the one who retired) was great at training. I would recommend it for someone who is having troubles finding a starting place. But I would also recommend leaving asap once you have experience and can find a better place. 

Working every day is a normal part of our lives, involving interactions with colleagues and the completion of assigned tasks. I believe I have enhanced my skills, particularly in woodworking. The management is excellent, and each employee has specific duties that help them fulfill their roles. The workplace is diverse, with people from various countries, which makes it exciting to learn about different cultures. We hold great respect for each individual. I have never experienced difficulty in my job because whenever I felt pressure, I treated it as a challenge that allowed me to improve my skills. What I enjoy most about my job is that whenever someone needs help, everyone is willing to assist.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It was an easy environment to work in.
They didn't stress out the new people when they inevitably made a mistake as long as they learned from it.
They were understanding when it came to scheduling and didn't pull you in for a meeting if you had to call in for a day.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some parts off the job requires speed and precision that takes practice and steady hands.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
People there were easy to get along with and would normally socialize during there breaks.
Staff would help others out if needed or if they had caught up with there own work.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You would spend most of your day in one area doing repetitive tasks like doing build up for counter tops.

I would not recommend this company due to significant management challenges. The organization appears highly focused on revenue generation without sufficient attention to operational efficiency or long-term planning. Management often lacks structure, operating in a reactive ‘day-to-day’ manner without strategic vision. Additionally, there are concerns about dismissive, potentially discriminatory practices, which create a challenging environment. Attempts to address issues may be met with resistance, making it difficult for employees to feel supported or valued. While staying under the radar may be a temporary strategy, it does not foster a sustainable or positive work experience.

My main goals as an Inside Sales Representative are to comprehend the demands of my clients, offer pertinent solutions, and establish enduring relationship with all my customers.
I really enjoy going to work. There is a great deal of product knowledge, which can occasionally be difficult. 
The management is excellent; they are very helpful and provide me with clear explanations for any work-related questions I have.

Hearing from happy, delighted clients or speaking with a new customer who was suggested to us by an existing one is the most rewarding aspect of my work.

I would recommend Colonial Countertops as an Employer in a heart  beat.


The staff at the time I worked there were great we were a family and tried our best with the poor organization HR had. Management there was supportive flexible and understanding. Local management was amazing at training and genuinely cared for their staff. Unfortunately HR over looked the staffs suggestions and clients demands at that location. They caused the staff to have to face constant backlash for HRs actions  which ended up absorbing that location. Every location across bc is managed differently. Their CRM system is the least user friendly and complex thing I’ve ever used as well. 

Colonial is fantastic to work for! They offer opportunities for advancement and learning new skills. I came to Colonial new to the countertop business. They look at the individual, not your "experience". There is open communication from staff to branch management, and branch management to upper management/owners.

Work does get hectic sometimes and of course there are good days and frustrating ones. But the people who work here make it easy to get through the rough days. Work culture is great, lots of laughing, brainstorming, and getting things done. Very productive and team focused environment. 

This company is fantastic, I highly recommend joining the team if you have the opportunity!
