Good place to work as a level 2 electrician or welder. Work is expected to be completed in deadlines that are impossible to hit due to incompetence in the drawing packages provided by engineers, which again, ties into low salaries as they want top notch quality but aren’t willing to pay the price. As a welder/electrician you can expect to start at approx $23/hr or slightly more depending on experience. After multiple years, employees cap out around the high 20’s per hour or early 30’s. No sick days are provided. Overtime is expected, and don’t expect a thank you for doing so. 10 minute coffee breaks rather than 15’s. 2 weeks of vacation after one year, 3 weeks of vacation after 5 years, 4 weeks of vacation after 10 years. Vacation is taken off your pay from each paycheque, the employer doesn’t pay you vacation each paycheque, which is no surprise as it is a non union shop. Barely any sort of team building. For a shop that charges it’s customers multiple hundreds of dollars per hour for labour, it’s disappointing that the employees doing the hard work earn a fraction of that. Co workers are fairly kind to one another, a large diversity of race throughout the floor.

Here in Woodstock we are small but mighty. Speaking for myself, I have grown exponentially as an employee as well as a person, as Commercial Truck continues to provide me with the resources and support that I require to succeed. As we are a smaller branch, we have a smaller staff, which allows people such as myself to learn and take on a multitude of rolls within the branch. I started here as a Lab Technician and have made my way into the Accounting, Utility Service, Human Resources (payroll) and Fire Apparatus Service and Parts departments. I am always encouraged by my branch manager to grow and learn as much as I can and find myself extremely fortunate to have the ability to reach my goals through hard work and perseverance here at Commercial Truck.

There are no typical days. One can wear many hats within a single job description if they choose to. With such a variety of products and customers, the learning never ends.
   I have not experienced any issues with management. There are always deferent personality types within any organization, but for the most part feel the management is supportive and open to new ideas. 
  The culture is "Old School". It still has that family feel where you are not treated like a number. Day to day tasks are not diluted with arbitrary policies. That being said, there is a lack of procedure to streamline some of the work. Productivity relies heavily on individual's personal work ethic.   
   The hardest part of the job is making sure nothing goes wrong.
   The best part is the room and freedom to grow.

i have learned lots when it comes to hydraulics and multiple types of units and processes in the company. i am always learning more every day, management goes above and beyond for there employees and I am super excited to continue my career here it is a wonderful place to be apart of. The shop is very well managed as with the office, I would say the hardest part would be not knowing the knowledge of some items but that goes along with a new industry for myself but  there is lots of people here that are willing to help me out and its super nice to have endless knowledge around the company.

Overseeing the manufacturing of commercial heavy equipment for the utility and construction industries, I work with a team of Project Managers and Estimators reporting to the Director of Operations. I came from a heavy civil background and was provided amazing support to get up to speed and learn about the work truck industry. Management encouraged me to get my PMP and gave me the time off I needed to prepare for the exam. Every day is a learning experience but I feel a part of the team and that I am contributing to the overall success of a project. 

The service manager is super supportve. He will never let any of his team be left behind. A real coach in a team environment. He always assist his subordinates and checking them from time to time. Seems he never get tired. The old timers are all supportive too. Senior mechanics shares their trade secrets. Very good work environment. The only thing that was not favorable was the pay and benefits. But I heard that the company upgraded the benefits lately. Same as with the other industries.

There is no typical day at work;  wearing several hats keeps things interesting.  The company family owned.  it is growing and the torch has passed to the next generation.  The vibe is a bit old school but employees are treated as people, not as numbers.  Management as a whole is a strong team that is are supportive and encouraging and allow employees to step outside the box and grow. 

I believe the vast number of long-time employees, and employees who refer friends/family for jobs at Commercial is positive reinforcement about the work environment.

After 40+ years in the workforce, Commercial Truck has been one of my best work experiences. We all have significant workloads but the majority of people that I see on a daily basis appear to handle it well. The support from management has played a large part in my workplace happiness. In my experience, the managers at Commercial Truck empower us to succeed. I get the pleasure of dealing with staff from all our branches, and in my opinion the majority of them are hardworking dedicated people. The people are definitely the best part of the job.

Management have done an excellent job on making sure we have one of the best or the best produce line across the board.
