Manipulation: This was the most frustrating part of my experience. I was sold a vision of the job that didn’t align with reality. They presented the role as an opportunity to make a difference while earning a fair income, but the commission-based pay structure was inconsistent and unfair. It felt like I was pressured to prioritize sales over genuinely helping clients. The goals set by management sometimes forced me into uncomfortable situations, where I had to push clients toward decisions that didn’t fully serve their interests.

Compensation Issues: The base pay was too low to justify the workload and pressure. Despite working hard, the take-home income didn’t match the effort I put in.

False Promises: During my hiring process, I was assured of career advancement opportunities and additional support, neither of which materialized. The reality of the job was far removed from the promises made, leaving me feeling disillusioned.

High-Stress Environment: The pressure to perform and hit targets was intense, and the lack of proper support from management only made it worse.

While the company’s mission to help people manage their debt is noble, my experience at Consolidated Credit Counseling Services of Canada left me feeling used and undervalued. They manipulated me into believing this was a career-building opportunity, only for it to turn into a high-pressure sales role disguised as counseling.

I did gain valuable skills and insights into financial counseling and customer service, but the cost to my morale and trust in the organization wasn’t worth it. If you’re considering working here, be cautious of what you’re promised during the hiring process and ensure it aligns with your values and long-term goals.

Being a counselor, you solely determine your own success here. It is meaningful work that you can be proud of as you are genuinely helping clients in some of the toughest times in their life. Whether it is just providing general advice or offering one of the many services (Debt Management Plan/Debt Consolidation, Mortgage Refinance, Consumer Proposals/Bankruptcies etc.) you are responsible for catering the right solution to their specific situation.

Management is great here as there is an open door policy and they are reachable at anytime if you have any questions or concerns. They will regularly provide you with advice and tips that help you be more effective in this practice while never crossing the line of micro managing what you do and impeding your development.

The workplace culture is above and behind any that I have seen before as well. They really do care about office morale and will always have events/activities + incentives to keep the office entertained and motivated.

The compensation is determined by metrics that evaluate your effectiveness as a counselor and your ability to help clients. Therefore, you must be numbers driven to be successful. With that being said, If you like what you do and are efficient in doing it you will be rewarded.

Amazing management and great coworkers. Fun culture and lots of events and goodies. You get recognized for your work and can make great money if perform well but pay structure could be better. Management will throw some surprise bonuses at times to motivate your performance. Hosts Performance contests to achieve extra incentives. Fast paced environment so more money than average. Very metrics driven so your performance is the only secret to do well. There are some slow periods which can impact your morale and pay both. But You work for the Commission not the base. So effort and good work ethic and perseverance is mandatory. There are events all through out the year and fun activities which keeps you entertained and boost your morale

If you enjoy working 45 hours a week to make a minimum wage paycheck then this is the place for you. Everything they sell you in the interview of making a 6 figure income is far from the truth sadly. There is clear favouritism there unfortunately so it is not fair game for every counsellor to make decent money only the top 2 will be making decent paychecks and the rest unfortunately will make minimum wage. You will need to work 3 times as hard as the top counsellor in order to get the same pay and that won't happen because all the business runs through the top counsellor first and foremost. Best thing about this place are the people you work with

Great company to work for if you are passionate about helping people and willing to work hard. Truly amazing products and services available that help people get out of debt- They don't just talk about it- they get real results. With that said you need to be someone driven by numbers and proving your an effective counsellor in measurable ways. If you think of your day in terms of how many people you've helped rather than how many hours you've worked- you will be rewarded... but if your someone just looking for a "comfy 9-5" this is not the place for you (and being and effective counsellor probably isn't either).

Consolidated Credit works with local and national community organizations in an educational capacity and literally allows me to help my neighbours.

Each counsellor will receive extensive training for credit counselling certification (3 courses) to be completed by the end of their second year

Ongoing office activities and community fundraising can be a pro or con depending on your level of engagement.

I've work at Consolidated Credit in the marketing department. The work culture here is great - always something going on from costume contests to potlucks to charity events. The people that work here are great and easy to get along with and make it an enjoyable environment! The director is friendly and easy to talk to, motivating and accommodating. I can see scope for growth here as well.

Working here was fun, easy and work/life balance was never a issue here. The work hours was perfect, minus the catty gossipy behavior at the time I worked there from some of the women in the customer service department it was great working here. The guy supervisor at the time was really helpful, understanding and easy going he made our work so much more easy, with good employers like him the employees will always stay. I recommend working here overall

This isn't a job where you can make 100k!  They falsely advertise this information to get employees to apply. A realistic salary for this place is possibly 50k if you work hard. Your base is around 38k. There is no bonus or commission structure. 

Lots of lies in this company. Do not work here thinking you will make good money. 



Working in the Community Outreach Department has been great. The ICQC and AFCC training included is a great way to develop professionally in the financial counseling world. Travelling coast to coast and helping Canadians from all walks of life take control of their personal finances has been very rewarding.
