Consumer Vision

I worked at Consumer Vision for just one month short of a year. I left due to personal reasons. With that being said, I will try my best to be as objective and unbiased when I write this modest review. 

A typical day at work consists of signing in, quickly being briefed by a supervisor and then reviewing quotas for assigned focus groups. You then make calls interviewing potential participants for paid focus groups. 

I do feel I learned a lot while working at Consumer Vision. I learned how to practice greater patience and customer service skills. Many times you would invest a lot of energy and time interviewing a potential participant only to have them not qualify. Of course this can be at times frustrating which results in you taking out such frustrations on future calls and so on. I learned to try to be more respectful and improve my temperament while being frustrated at the same time. 

Regarding management, unfortunately I did have a few issues. In retrospect, I do feel I largely contributed to some of the difficulties. Sometimes I let my temper get the best of me and make witty remarks, role my eyes, and so on. I do feel the management overall was good and had their best intentions at heart. At times however, I must be honest, they were unprofessional. I feel good management means leading by example and showing others the way. I feel this was greatly lacking (respectfully speaking). No criticism outside of that though. 

I built many wonderful friendships at Consumer Vision. I worked many days out of the week, often times five days and through time, it really did feel like a family. I feel the office was very small which fostered a more intimate connection with co-workers. I learned a lot from people of different backgrounds. Many s
hifts were full of lots of laughs and playing around. Unfortunately however, there was some verbal abuse by a few co-workers. Also, I don't know, I did have a few issues with a few employees. Nothing serious though. At the end of the day, I go my way they go theirs. No hard feelings. 

The hardest part of the job was just personal issues. They really affected me which is why I felt it was in my best interest to just leave. I foolishly left with a bad impression. I really did burn my bridges and for that alone, I've learned a lot. Outside of that, I feel the job was very easy and manageable. For the sake of the question, I feel boredom was the greatest challenge. I'm a person who likes to think and be mentally stimulated. I think we all do. And at times the job can get very repetitive, as many jobs do. No fault on the job. As employees, we should try to motivate ourselves and stay enthused and determined. 

The most enjoyable part of the job was the staff. Again, I made some wonderful friendships. Fortunately many of the part time employees were in the same age group as I was (a little younger) but still. We had some really good times talking about anything under the sun. I'm going to really miss some of them. 

If anyone from Consumer Vision is reading this whom I had the good fortune of working with, my message to you is: I hope you are doing well and wish you all the best in all areas of your life. :)

Like with every workplace, you tend to start off really excited to meet your coworkers, as well as get good at the task you get handed to you.

That died out really freaking quickly.

A typical day at work was me getting on a phone and calling 200 people for 8 hours a day, leaving hundreds of messages.

What I learned was that smiling over the phone is audible. When you smile while talking over the phone, your voice changes and you sound more approachable. 

Management for full time was a joke, when I switched to part time the manager was nice and professional.

The hardest part of the job was getting recruits from cold calls.
That means calling random people who have no clue who we are and asking them if they wanna go through a survey over the phone which asks for a lot of personal information, and then letting them know whether or not they're able to even go to the focus group to get their money.

The most enjoyable part of working there was talking to people who actually knew who we were and wanted to take part in the focus groups.

This job involved recruiting respondents to take part in focus groups. The spectrum of focus groups covered consumer product, medical and the Business Professional Industries. I learned how to approach medical professionals and business leaders to inform them of upcoming studies. Unfortunately, senior and middle management is very small minded when it comes to understanding the nuts and bolts that are involved in day to day duties of a recruiter. The most enjoyable part of the job is the interaction that takes place between co workers on the recruiting side, as we are able to talk about challenges that occur in communicating with the public.

I've worked here for a very long time it has a flexible schedule and very helpful and friendly evening staff. This job is easy to learn and not hard to do, you learn the ins and outs of the trade. Have had a lot of supervisors over the years some good some bad but the thing the kept me there over the years was the flexible schedule, the  close downtown location and friendly staff. Some of the staff were less productive than others, but most of us played are part to help the company grow, the downfall was the hard working staff were not rewarded only 1 raise in years of working there, however the pros definetly outweigh the cons

With birthday leave, additional annual leave and fun social events throughout the year, Consumer Vision Ltd is truly a great place to work. There's also a modern open-plan office, free onsite parking and two free pairs of glasses per year. There's a great "get things done" culture in the office, along with a good work/life balance.

Hours are usually Monday to Friday 9 to 4, shifts get cut often due to lack of work

Call center management seems to care.

Nothing hard about this job.

Co workers make it great place to work.

I worked for the company a short time. The training was very good and the team leaders where nice .I was responsible for recruiting people for different projects depending what was available.It  was night work.

had to meet quotas assigned at the beginning of each shift, make cold calls based on some topics. Hourly based roles, so advancement was hard to accomplish unless you were in the know

Management lacks competence and skills, HR  is amateur and unprofessional. It is an on-call job, with competitive salary and nice collegues, but it has no structure or management.
