What is the best part of working at the company?
Cooper Equipment Rentals is one of the best companies you can ever start your career at. I started as a Yard Coordinator and due to certain circumstances I was promoted to a Rental Coordinator role. It is an inclusive and supportive environment, great people to work with, constant support to grow and learn. A job that requires you to get out your comfort zone and work on aspects of yourself you didn’t realize you had the capability to achieve. Teaches you how to serve the customer and their needs which ultimately is the greatest success for a company that provides rentals and requires consistent and reliable customer service and relations(The Cooper Difference!!). Great benefits and always room to grow. 5/5 all day long. I wish to still be a part of this great company in some capacity. I would recommend for anyone who wants to get into the world of construction and equipment. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There can be long hrs at times, difficulty getting along with certain staff members of staff, making it difficult at times to feel comfortable or included. There has sometimes been unrealistic expectations to hit certain quotas but it ultimately pushed you to surpass your limits. To look beyond what you can see as realistic and to almost be delusional in your belief to succeed for you and your team but ultimately and most importantly for providing the absolute best service and experience for the customers who choose to use Cooper day in and day out.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Inclusive and diverse, it requires like any workplace, the ability to bring forth integration from different activities and team bonding exercises. Everyone has a different story and upbringing, different personalities and perspective. It’s just understanding and respecting everyone and finding ways to be come closer inside and outside of work. Cooper made it easy to by providing lunches for the team every Friday before a long weekend enhancing the team bonding experience. We at the Fence Division were provided an opportunity to go to an NBA game in the BOX!!!! Amazing experience and time provided by our suppliers TOPS!! Big shoutout to them for an unbelievable effort and dedication to making sure they showed their appreciation even though we served each other.

I worked here for about 3 years I was a truck driver. I told the management I had mechanic experience and I could provide reference’s from past related experience.I wasn’t able to do any mechanic work not sure why I wanted to work & learn but I had to wait to get into the shop. Finally it came around my turn I got in and I worked for about 3 months I had to stop & ask myself if I stay & keep working this way watching the way others set an example hardly do anything or complain about there job.I’m not going to be a good mechanic. So I gave my notice & I’m glad I did I’ve learned more in 6 months than I did in 3 years. The first job I took didn’t work out the second job well I can say this is my fit older guys mechanics working helping young people into the trade. Field techs not afraid of hard work equal opportunity. I couldn’t believe how some techs at Cooper felt so hard done by especially the field guy what’s to complain about. Management has no backbone and from what I saw could care a less about getting skills & becoming better at your job. It really felt like showing up and just putting in time. I’m glad I saw the light the more experience I get the better I can become.it’s to bad that they didn’t have people in some of those positions that were willing to help a person that was learning or trying to gain knowledge rather than make a joke about them being a apprentice. I had lots of related experience I’ve done mechanic work all my life but was made to feel I had a whole lot to prove.I felt I was only allowed to function test equipment the equipment the company owns didn’t have a lot of mechanical problems because they had a hour limit and would replace units when older so that made the job easier alot of small jobs function testing not really repairing more servicing than anything.At the end of the day at my new job I know when I’ve done good or bad at this place because you have to earn your keep you don’t own it & you have to work for it there’s a difference it feels good when you have accomplished tasks which is what I needed a challenge I’m glad I ventured out! 

Very very very unorganized company. Worked there for 4.5 years. Started off amazing « best job ever », quickly turned bad due to horrible management in Quebec. I would say that 80% of the people that work there are amazing but the atrocious managing forces everyone to suck. 

It might be the fact that the company went from 15-17 stores when I arrived to almost 50 stores within 5 years causing the company to thin itself out and having to promote the wrong people into the wrong positions. It used to take a day to fix mistakes on pay check, when I left it would take a week or more.

« Blue collar workers » are unionized in Quebec which is probably a good thing due to horrible management. The company doesn’t really care about their employees like they say they do: Forced COVID-19 testing 1 time a week if not vaccinated. Company refused to pay for the tests and time on weekends (required for old employees under new policy). Had to have « l’énormes du travail »comme tell them they have to.

Had a death in Quebec due to lack of safety. They’ve been pumping safety now for a year hoping to show that they care about safety and always have.

As a heavy truck driver, often got told that I’m on break when I’m driving by management. Trust me I would love to take a nap driving a 100,000lbs truck along st Catherine;since I’m on break. 

One thing that really bothered me here was that at the beginning the culture was amazing! Everyone was extremely helpful, enthusiastic about doing a good job, really focused on giving top quality customer service to differentiate ourselves from the competition. Then there seemed to be a shift to only focus on quantity instead of quality. Customers who had been there a while were changing providers, new ones were coming in, only to not last that long due to unkept promises by the company. 

Also been told by management that truck driving isn’t a career, we’ll let me you, with all the experience you guys gave me, I’m now making 100,000$+ a year. 

So overall this place is great to start at, take your experience, and get out while you can.

Pros

- The structure of Cooper allows for individuals to try, learn and master lots of different aspects of the rental process, as well as gain solid fundamental understandings of how businesses operate
- Equipment is free to use for staff 
- Lots of free lunches

Cons

- Outstanding lack of communication skills penetrates and saturates the workforce and hinders most operations
- Cooper's handling of COVID-19 was and is clumsy and reactive at best; little to no care or concern is put into ensuring branches adhere to local health guidelines (i.e. mask-wearing, social distancing, etc.) 
- Little to no effort is put into training new staff on systems, SOPs, or equipment
- Revolving door of staff, with good staff leaving for more competitive positions elsewhere, lesser quality staff being hired to fill vacant positions
- Staff, management and head office alike have difficulty dealing with big problems head-on, perpetually pushing them off to another day

Advice to Management

Put money & time into training local managers; they care and they work hard, but ironically, frequently lack the right tools to keep things running smoothly. Vet new hires more aggressively, make Cooper a destination to work, not a layover.

So far, my experience at Cooper Equipment Rentals has been a great one. The team at Cooper has been very welcoming and provided me with all the help I need to adjust to my position. The company culture focuses on employee wellbeing with a lot of attention going towards worker safety. It is also very common for Cooper to help out the communities local to its many branches with a big emphasis on charity events. Overall, I have found my working day to be very stress-free with a remote working environment (only a small possibility of going into the office once every week or two) and reasonable work task deadlines. There's also a large catalogue of different technologies used in my position which I've been allowed to become familiar with at my own pace (no pressure to rush any job-related learning). Management is also very accommodating when it comes to any questions, requests, or suggestions you may have.

As a new employee at Cooper Equipment Rentals, I have been working as a Parts and Service Coordination representative for a few months now, and my experience has been very positive so far. The company has a strong focus on safety, which has been evident in their commitment to ongoing training and the implementation of best practices in the workplace.

I have found the work environment to be welcoming and inclusive, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration. The management team is supportive and approachable, and they prioritize open communication and feedback to ensure that all employees feel heard and valued.

In my role, I have had the opportunity to learn about the company's equipment and operations, as well as interact with customers and internal departments. This has been a great learning experience, and I feel supported in my role by my colleagues and management.

Overall, I am happy to be a part of the Cooper Equipment Rentals team and look forward to continuing to grow with the company.

well what to say about this company mentality is still like what it was 5 yrs ago one shop operation specially in GTA if you want to survive do one thing and one thing only don't work they don't value your work just call the regional manager and complain and lie about your co worker or manager and that is it. the one at fault gets praised and other person gets fired that simple. 
look at the managers they have ,even their age wont fit them to be at that level most of them with no experience. so if you are a veteran with lots of experience they feel threaten by you. be careful lots of accidents and unsafe equipment and no training. 
jobs advancement is only for their own crew and family members and who they gulf on weekend.
such a shame see a company in this level be like this. 
managers getting fired left right and center more people leaving than joining. it is a good place for quick stop and leave as soon as you find more stable position.
they play this game that we are one Family and so on which is on big BS.

A typical day at work would be getting to work in the morning energetic with a good night sleep the night before and starting off productive with looking around for weirdly placed items laying around and working on tasks provided. Management is perfectly balanced between business and care, it almost feels like a family from the employees to the management team from how well it goes and how much they care about the employees. The hardest part of the job is getting around multiple tasks for hours on hours which makes breaks convenient which makes the hardest part of the job not so hard. The most enjoyable part of the job is definitely the fun u have with other employees and the lunches with them. Another enjoyable part of the job is being done with a task and moving onto a different task provides.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Being a part of a great team environment. Excellent leadership makes it easy to learn and develop at your own pace. Staff are understanding and friendly. This company provides the resources, support and training needed to have success.

Working in a fast-paced environment can be challenging. Must be able to meet deadlines, handle setbacks and using problem solving skills.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment and culture are very positive with a focus on employee well-being. Safety is a priority and the company looks out for everyone. It's an energetic place to work. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day consists of collaboration with team members about outgoing orders and pickups. Also, communicating about equipment issues and repairs.

Cooper Equipment is a growing company that still has the small company feel. You can pick up the phone at any time and speak with the owner and the support they provide at branch level is second to none. They have just recently added Atlantic Canada to the mix and so far it has been a great experience for all. 

     Where most companies are downsizing, there is no signs of this with Cooper. They continue to add locations throughout Canada to better serve our customers no matter where they might be. The wages are fair, great work life balance and they treat everyone with a tremendous amount of respect which is not something that I can't say about many of the employers that I have worked for in the past. They care about the company as well as you as an individual. You are not a number you are a valued  employee that is respected and listened to. If an opportunity to work for Cooper is available jump at it as you will not be disappointed.
