Corn Detasseling

A typical day we would wake up at 5 to get ready and get to the bus stop by 630, then our corn leader would come pick us up and we would get to the field around 7 then we would start and work till we finished the field which could be at any time.
 
I learned about how much hard work would get you in the work field.

The management was great.

My co-workers were great worked long days with them so you really get to know them.

The hardest part of the day was when you didn't have enough water for the day so you would be really thirsty.

The most enjoyable part of the day was when it dried up because in the morning it was really wet.

This job was a valuable experience for me. I was able to get the feel of working long hours for a decent pay. I learned how to detassel corn and work as a team by aiding those who had not finished detasseling their column yet. Management was a little bit relaxed, but understandable so because the workers had to do their fair share of dealing with those who were struggling. The weather some days was very uncomfortable especially when it rained and the field was covered in mud. Working with others was quite fun and I also enjoyed going home after a hard days work knowing that I accomplished a lot.

A typical day at work would be arriving around 6am to a specific lot in which we were assigned to that day, and picking the tassels from the corn stalks. Once we finished we would get back on the bus and proceed to another lot and repeat. We would get around a 30 minute lunch each day. We kept going until our jobs for the day were finished. Sometimes our days would end short and sometimes they would go longer. Some of the responsibilities I learned were to be on time and work hard.

- early in the morning to catch a bus to transport to location
- get put in a row of corn and tassel each and everyone of the plants
- walk in a decent pace. not slow
- have a checker behind you making sure you get all, if not they get it.
- they got to tell you when your breaks were, sometimes you would not get one for a few hours.

right from the start of work we went to the corn fields and started Detasseling it was not to hard work but you work early so when you get to the fields in the morning the corn is still wet from the morning dew other than that it's a good and easy job.

A typical work day was extremely exhausting,but having friendly people to talk to made it a whole heck of a lot easier.

it was hard work but it was good. if you come everyday you get a good raise. you also get 3 brakes which helps you have to have good endurance to do this job.

By working in Corn Detasseling, it taught me a lot about hard work and working in a team environment. I made a lot of good friends and memories working here and i definitely recommend it as a starter job.

They are very flexible and generous in whatever hours wanted to work.
Given a ride to job placements and worked all day pulling tassels in all types of weather.

I did this in high school during the summer. It was hard work but it was fun. It was a very social environment. the worst part of it was if it rained we would have to work in it still.
