A typical day at work:
-working with participants either in the community or in-house (or both depending on the area/satellite you work in) on a variety of activities either in a vocational or life enrichment setting
-you either work alone or with coworkers and the things you do with participants depends on the area you work in as well as how much assistance/care they need. Considering the amount of participants, it's likely you'll deal with challenging behaviours though.

Management:
-can be either really good or really bad with the bad ones including things like micromanagement, playing favourites, dismissing genuine concerns brought to their attention, and some even going as far as making things up in order to have multiple people fired over time because they don't like them as a person.

Workplace Culture:
-generally very accepting, supportive, empathetic and encouraging.
-fair amount of hostility and toxic behaviours/treatments as well which is often dismissed by the coordinators.

Hardest part of the job:
-dealing with challenging behaviours, especially out in the community while being on your own with a group of participants.
-dealing with the toxic coworkers and coordinatinators/supervisors/management.
-dealing with HR at all, they don't protect the employees here.. Only the company.

Most enjoyable part of the job:
-working with the participants and having amazing relationships with them, it's a lot of fun.
-having a few coworkers that are genuinely supportive, empathetic, and excited to be there for the participants.. That made the days enjoyable and easier to get through the stressful times.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The participants are the reason anyone who works there gets up in the morning. The atmosphere is so positive, if u are having a bad morning by the time u leave at the end of the day it won't feel bad anymore.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sometimes Shirt staffing or if other staff aren't pulling their weight. The participants rely on you to be there for them and you have to work as a team or it won't be a successful day.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very supportive and very person centered when it comes to the participants. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Starts with a meeting first thing to discuss plans for the day. Once participants arrive its a day full of running programs for them.

It is meeting so many people and learned a lots from the many years of experience in the company and a lots of trainings

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The changes in stuff and also in the leadership 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was brutal in a way that some people did not respect other people's culture 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was little stressful, but cared on on my duties as if nothing was bordering me because I liked to deal with the participants but not with the staff

I worked at Cosmopolitan Industries for two years and it has been the most insightful and valuable experience I have had. It taught me many things about the recycling process and how paper, cardboard, plastic, and other recyclable material is handled and processed. The people there are amazing and the managers are friendly and very understanding people. The participants are always happy and never fail to put a smile on your face in the middle of your work day. I would definitely recommend working here.

You get a low wage and an unpaid lunch break. Hard to financially get by. Mirco managed and berated by staff and managers. Individuality is almost frowned upon and management has no compassion for Life circumstances that might pop up. Was 10 minutes late for work one time due to traffic and I called my employer to let them know and they shorted my lunch break by 10 minutes. You have to use personal vehicles to drive clients around and you only get gas mileage reimbursed at the end of the month. It was not a pleasant working experience.

Very rewarding knowing that I have made a difference in the participants lives. To see that smile on their face and excitement is definitely worth it! The fun, and laughter being had while getting the job done in a safe and professional way is a great feeling. Being a part of teaching them new skills to feel valued in the workplace and in the community is an honour I will carry with me throughout my life.

Week days 8 to 4 pm we are fully engaged

It could be anything from point A to Z

I spent the day working with people with disabilities. We would provide daily activities such as sensory activities, taking part in the community, assisting with personal care, crafts, games and a variety of activities.

It was such a busy place, you’re literally on the go every second. Communication was hard sometimes because of the heavy workload. It is such a rewarding job at the end of the day, but would love to see more benefits and job security for the workers.

I really loved working there! Staff, clients and management are friendly and great to work with . It’s a great place for experience in the human services and an overall positive work environment
