Cross Cultural Learner Centre

I worked in the Language Assessment and Referral Services Team. Daily activities included completing between 4-6 language assessments, seeing clients for educational counseling, and coordinating with other departments to provide services to newcomers. Relations among front-line workers walk the line between personal and professional, creating a warm, collaborative environment that fosters friendships. Mid-level management consists of both highly trained professionals who are a pleasure to work for and less well-trained micromanagers. Job satisfaction is highly dependent on which team one works for; as of June 2020 I would not recommend working under the current LARS manager. Upper-level management is generally receptive and provides training and mentoring for those who ask. HR has an open-door policy and provided me with support when required. At the moment, the CCLC is in a state of transition to a more enterprise-like structure and, as such, both transparency and job security are lacking. Hopefully this will settle in the future, as it was generally a pleasure to have worked at the CCLC.

Cross Cultural Learner Centre is an organization oriented to support newcomers and promoted intercultural awareness.  It has as a central attribute its strong orientation to a high-quality service. An essential component of this  orientation is the commitment of staff and managers  to their task and responsibilities. My experience in this organization has taught me about the importance of a fluent communication among staff members and between staff and managers, and also the importance of making the work place an space of sharing  personal experiences related with the work activities or the clients situation.  This is a key component of communicating the institutional memory of Cross Cultural, maintaining on its staff´s experience, and maintaining a  daily learning process at work.  In a brief, Cross Cultural is an excellent example of an institution which has a continuous learning as one of its highest values.

A Typical Day at Work: A typical day at the London Cross Cultural Learner Centre (CCLC) might involve assisting newcomers, coordinating programs, and providing support services. Staff members engage with clients, facilitate workshops, and collaborate with community partners.
The Hardest Part of the Job: Challenges could include managing high caseloads, addressing complex client needs, and navigating cultural differences. Balancing empathy with professional boundaries might also be demanding.
The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job: Many find fulfillment in making a positive impact on newcomers’ lives. Building relationships, witnessing clients’ progress, and contributing to a welcoming community can be rewarding.

I believe CCLC is an exceptional workplace where diversity is celebrated and individuals are empowered to grow. As a language assessor, I've found my role to be perfectly lined up with my expertise in English teaching and my passion for helping others. CCLC provides a warm and welcoming environment with ample opportunities for professional development and personal growth. The organisation's commitment to helping newcomers integrate into Canadian society is evident in its supportive programs and collaborative culture. Working at CCLC has been incredibly fulfilling, as I have the privilege of making a meaningful difference in the lives of those I serve. 
CCLC is a fantastic place to work! 

Productive to work on one's own pace and manage multiple tasks in one day. Sometimes it's interesting how manageable it could be when accomplished with proficiency. It is exciting to interpret for variable service providers and Informative of the various community services available.

It is a great place to volunteer at CCLC, and there is a high chance to get hired and get a job there  after volunteering with them. The staff over there are very welcoming and kind. They are motivated and passionate to serve the community.

amazing organization  for helping newcomer to live their new live in this country and how to support the family to grow up , same time help people to find a job for everybody in the community , friendly ,kindly and helpful staff and coworker .

Although I did not work at CCLC, I acquired some experience in regards to their method of team work through my volunteer experience, which was not precisely what I was looking for, considering their disorganization and corrupt work conduct.

I liked having the change to help people and meet people from different countries. However the management is incompetent and willing to throw you under the bus at a moments notice. Proceed with caution. 

I did a variety of work as a volunteer, but always felt very happy that my efforts would be having a good effect on people who needed them : recent immigrants or asylum applicants.  Very friendly staff as well.
