Where to begin with this place... upper management are derogatory, cruel pieces of. Lower management are lapdogs under constant scrutiny. I was a cashier at the main store for years. There is no opportunity for advancement, in fact they will lie to your face and give you hope then go with an outside hire. They lied to us about our staff discount. Went behind our backs and raised the prices on every item individually and didn’t care to mention that to us. I was working full time for 5 months straight, and when I was about to hit 6 months for benefits my shifts were reduced and I was struggling, but the managers “hands were tied”. UM assumes the very worst in us and makes daily operations maddeningly frustrating with ridiculous rules that, if broken once for a good reason (ie waiting on a busy supervisor to come approve a discount that a regular gets every time they come in, who is in a rush and won’t make the purchase if they need to wait any longer) you will be sat down and spoken to like an id**t with a severity in tone 10x more intense than the crime committed. People are fired if they need time off. Countless indigenous people are kicked out of the store, followed or refused service because they resemble someone who may have stolen in the past. It’s an unwritten rule, but you will be in trouble if you don’t alert every staff member the minute an indigenous person enters the store, regardless of appearance. An indigenous mother came in to complain about the mistreatment of her son who was followed and kicked out of the store when he came to buy a bottle of wine for dinner. Unfortunately her complaint was about the district manager, so you can imagine what happened with that. We are under constant scrutiny of UM because they have apps on their phone with a direct feed to the security cameras. Micromanaging is a way of life at this company. You will be sat down and humiliated if your appearance isn’t up to their standards. Hazard pay lasted a single month and was only enough extra per hour for us to break even with the reduced hours. We weren’t allowed to wear masks despite having numerous immunocompromised employees up until about a few weeks before masks were made mandatory by Calgary. The manager that advocated for its existence and and continuance was fired for shaky reasons. Don’t work here.

This isn’t written with my store manager or coworkers in mind, 
But the rest of the company, so keep that in mind reading. 

When I say finding anywhere else to work I stand by that. 
The hours are by far the worst of any job I’ve had, you get 24/week IF you’re lucky, so if you’re in school, this might be phenomenal for you, otherwise it isn’t, and getting more hours isn’t an option. 
They think $15.80 is a great rate to work alone, in a liquor store, and honestly it’s a good rate if you’re on a team, but to solely run a store for 5+ hours, I can’t say it’s worth it. 
Looking busy it valued ABOVE productivity, so if you’re a quick and efficient worker, don’t stop here, any more than 10 minutes of not doing anything and you’re penalized. 
The standards also live in the 90s where piercings, tattoos and coloured hair means you aren’t a good worker, so be prepared to wear long sleeves forever if you have arm tattoos, and go back to a natural colour.

First and foremost I want to say that my problems with the company had nothing to do with my coworkers. I loved the community I work with, its the management I have a problem with. They sit up in the office all day and then expect you to do what they see as a "reasonable" amount if work but truthfully you're the one keeping the company afloat. when hired you're under the impression that its a simple cashier job and then they hit with cycle stock counts and having to actually do the stock yourself. and i dont even want to mention how horrible the training is. of course you get used to it but where my biggest issue is the scheduling. they consistently disregard employees needs and requests and overwork you to an insane breaking point. "part time" isnt something that exists to them. when you ask for (x) amount of days and (x) hours they will do the exact opposite. not to mention sometimes the schedule is not even out until the day before the week starts. and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Once you have been hired by them, they are under the impression they own you and you should be available to them at all times. 
They run stores with skeleton crews expecting that if someone calls out sick they will just have employees from other stores go out of their way to work in another location. 
Upper management has a very limited mindset, more than once I heard “if they don’t like it they can quit.”
It’s January as I write this, and there are currently 7 Jon postings for the company - this should be a red flag for anyone looking to work for them. 
The term micromanaged does not even begin to describe how store management is treated by upper management. 

I hated every day I worked here. The company knew an employee had decided every day to insult and berate me even when I never made mistakes and allowed the harassment to continue despite other employees complaining to management about my mistreatment. I was allowed the status of training new employees but the manager rarely let me. My wages were very low and I struggled paying bills.  Manager would berate employees and lower management in front of everyone. I have previous work in management and still own my own business but this company offered me only the worst jobs in their company. Left and found a better paying job. I will never work here again.

I truly enjoy working for Crowfoot Wine & Spirits. Training and development has been supportive and ongoing.They offer opportunities to advance and are always looking to Promote the right people from within.

I receive benefits, vacation time and store discounts. My schedule is flexible and a 40 hour work week is the standard and expected. It has allowed me to have some work life balance.

The company has a great education program within its stores and also offers additional educational incentives outside the workplace.

Staff are very welcoming and a lot of fun! I enjoy being able to interact with different people every day. This business is ever-changing so new exciting items are always coming into the store.

The staff discount was great, training was beneficial, but mostly my co-workers

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Constant micromanaging, and the fear of someone shoplifting while you were on duty.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful . The company spends hours and hours to track any losses. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Usually when you arrive you have daily inventories to do.  If they don't match up with sales, panic sets in.
  Dealing with customers and staff was pleasant.

This is a job where you are constantly watched on the camera to ensure you are never off your feet. As a student I thought this would be an awesome opportunity but I was so wrong. You work completely by yourself with no one to talk except for the mandatory radio station that plays the same three songs on repeat. There are no breaks, and even if all the work is done down to dusting every single bottle you are not allowed to crack open a textbook. It was so lonely, there was only a 15 min overlap with the person before. Safe to say it was rough.

My former manager was honestly one of the best bosses I've ever had and he would always be willing to help me in anyway I needed. My new manager is also amazing. I really enjoy working there, the customers are usually very polite and nice and the tasks are okay. The only cons are the excess of weight you have to deal with while stocking products and the wage which isn't very high but I guess compatible with the market for this kind of job. 

Not a bad company to work for, but not a great company. The goods include a half-decent pay, decent wine training, staff discounts, and some of the customers can be pretty good. However, the bad include you're constantly under upper management scrutiny where they'll berate you if you do one thing slightly wrong. You're expected to read and score a minimum of 80 percent on a whole bunch of wine/product knowledge tests. You're constantly on your own which makes working some nights rather scary.
