As a high horse power engine rebuilder , you need to take pride in your work and every thing you do has to be done 100 %   because its you alone that assembles the engine from beginning to end  and you do not want it to  fail its   4 hour load test .  If it does  you might be taken off the assembly  line and be placed in engine tear down or engine  parts cleaning  area .  So every engine you do ,you rebuild it like you are doing it for your self and its going to last for ever.
Coming in every day ,you never worry about what you are working on not like in the truck shop where jobs only last 2 or 3 days . These big engines take up to 4 weeks to assemble . Every day is totally different . Not like an assembly line where you only put one item on ,then move to your next engine . I could never do that . Only a few people are lucky enough to get this job.

The people I worked with were, for the most part, pretty good. Like any workplace there was the usual politics & backstabbing but overall not too bad. Our so called manager never did anything to promote team spirit and actively sought to drive wedges between departments. His lack of leadership & even competence was on display every day.
Every month we were forced to audit some failed metric from the previous month with little or no explanation as to it's relevance. Any criticism or questioning of the metric is met with indignation;
"How dare you question the Great Oz!" was the perception. I got the impression that nobody really knew what the answers were but didn't want to admit it.

All in all, a pretty disappointing experience after great hype.

As with any other company, this could truly depend on the role you're at. Cummins tends to be a company that fosters work-life balance and a healthy work environment.

This was not my situation.

My role was one of the most technically challenging roles, working as a CPE Engineer for one of the leading future on-highway products.

Timelines were excessively fast, support was scarce & working with technicians toxic. 

After 1.5 years of 50-70hour work weeks (at no overtime) - I started dealing with several different health issues due to rampant stress. To the point I had to leave the company and never come back.

Cummins showed little support to these issues. Stay away from CTC and technical roles. They're not worth the stress & pressure. Especially whilst other people in the company get compensated the same for working 30-hour weeks. 

Cummins as a whole has a lot to offer. The pay, while not the highest in the industry is fair, benefits and pension are as good as I have seen outside of government jobs, and there are a ton of perks. They have been around for over 100 years, and there is a reason for that. 

That said, you are working for a large corporation. You are a number. Nothing more, nothing less, and some management teams make that more evident than others. The company has many routes and opportunities for advancement, but few are offered to technicians, and even less if you are in Canada. 

If you can disregard the politics and be ok being micromanaged and not heard, there are many benefits to working here. If you are a technician that is really passionate about your job, care about your customers and want everyone to thrive, the place will drive you nuts. 

- Cummins really takes care of you. From offering you a competitive salary to providing an amazing working culture, there is really nothing bad I can say about the Company.
Leadership and their employees have a great relationship and if anyone from leadership oversteps their bounds, HR immediately steps in.
- There is a great respect for work-life balance, in fact they encourage it.
- If anyone needs personal time, the company is super flexible and allows you to take time off. I've never felt like work has interfered with my personal life. 
- Personalities sometimes clash, but that's human nature and at Cummins people always find a way to work with each other.
- My only regret is that I left Cummins.

My position was based on trust!  and Getting to know the customers . 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Micro managing ! Can’t get any answers? 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You’re pretty much on your own !! there’s no reaching out to anybody for any kind of matters !! 



What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Cover your calls pretty much same old just a different day !! If you finish your pms early you get a bonus but the tax man will take most of it!! And when you do the math it doesn’t add to much!!  Not much of a 
Incentive .. since you will just have to do other techs ? pms

Shift work is great, either 7x7 or 14x14 depending on which department you're a part of. Lots to learn about high horsepower engines and multiple types of mining equipment. Management does their best but with so many techs spread out over such a large area problems can arise. Customers can be very demanding and  a lot of pressure is put on technicians to produce. The hardest part of the job is familiarizing yourself with the various pieces of equipment. The most enjoyable thing is seeing that massive piece of equipment come back to life after a successful repair.

Keeping customers updated on repairs events while keeping it on schedule and budget while implementing corporate standards and enforcing them.

How the implementation of the environmental (emission) control components work with the cummins engines

Keeping communication open to all levels of the administration staff to facilitate repair events with customer involvement. 

Keeping the repair on schedule 

Watching the customers reactions when he is informed the repair event is completed and the costs are covered by warranty.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I was impressed to find that, unlike many large corporations, Cummins fostered an environment of open communication and collaboration across all levels of management.

The most stressful part of the job was learning all aspects of their company software as it offers various options
