Curves

Curves was basically a mild exercise routine for older women.  There was a rotation of machines, each representing only a minute or two of use and then a canned voice would interrupt to tell the patrons to move to the next machine.  The repetitive voice commands were a type of torture. The machines were not maintained well enough to offer reliable resistance for the exercises.  Many of the ladies were there because it was an extremely easy "workout" and the circle of machines was perfect for a chit-chat.  I enjoyed many a good story and came to know a great deal about my town of which I would not otherwise have had knowledge.  The owner of my Curves franchise viewed the job of the overseeing supervisor as that of a glorified babysitter but paid much less that a sitter would make watching one toddler. I was desperate for grocery money at the time or I would never have worked such early hours with such little compensation.  I did, however, enjoy the patrons - quite a bit, actually. I learned that everyone has a story, usually full of courage. The conversations at the circle in Curves saved me, and some of them, the outrageously high cost of psychological therapy......if I could only have turned off the canned music and that voice..."Move to the next machine please." Ahhhhh!

The environment in the gym is amazing between the staff that work here and the members that workout here! There is always a friendly face to welcome anyone through the door! When I first started here I was a shy 18 year old with little to no experience, they provided amazing training not only on how to do the job but how to talk to people and connect with them! I now have no problem talking to anyone that walks through my doors! I love the motivation of the members here, they motivate each other to keep going and they help motivate me to reach my fitness goals as well! I love the owner of this Curves she is an amazing lady and will give everyone and anyone a chance to be their best selves! She is so accommodating when I am in school and works shifts around my schooling hours to make sure i am working but not to much! Over all this is an amazing gym and I would recommend it to any lady I see walking down the street! even if I didn't work here I would do that it is such an awesome environment for women!

From opening the gym in the morning, booting up the computer so clients can scan in their attendance, and getting the music turned on, the morning ladies would be eager to get to work on the circuit. Circuit training works every major muscle in a half hour workout. It's resistance training on hydronic machines. Designed to tone muscle not bulk it. Also a high protein low carbohydrate diet program with supplements was offered to clients. Staff had good training seminars to be qualified to teach clients. Stretching after each workout would ensure a no muscle pain or strain workout.. Monthly staff would weigh and measure clients to track and ensure their weightloss. CURVES FOR WOMEN was a fantastic upbeat work place.

A typical day at work looks like training Curves members to become stronger, healthier, and more confident individuals through cardio and strength training, classes, and nutritional guidance. I have learned to become more outgoing and build stronger connections with members to assist them more effectively. I find it very easy to manage this job because of the limited amount of hours that I am given every week. My co-workers are very approachable, friendly and committed to giving women the guidance, assistance, and training they need to become stronger, healthier, and happier. The hardest part of this job, in my opinion, is the very few hours that I am given every week. The most enjoyable part of this job, in my opinion, is the upbeat, lively, and fun environment that I am privileged to share with the Curves Fitness members.

I absolutely loved working for Curves.  The women I met and trained, coached over the 8 years I was there were extraordinary.  As a too young retiree from Bank of Montreal I was looking for something I would enjoy doing and Curves gave me just that.  As an avid exerciser for over 30 years I knew that Curves was the place I wanted to be.

I learned that as women we are all trying to find time for ourselves, and with taking care of family, working it is not that easy.  Lots of effort and dedication is needed to achieve that precious time. I can't help but feel the greatest respect and admiration for the women who give it their all, either to reach a personal goal or to just maintain a healthy lifestyle.

I only worked with 3 other trainers and we were a great team.

Curves is all about health and fitness for women. This company provides personal motivation and support for it's members.
Typical staff day is working out with members, motivating them to do and be better, celebrating their accomplishments and helping them through the tough days. Answering phones and calling referrals is a daily part of the job.
The staff and owners are great to work with as we all have the same goals. To grow the business and motivate the members to be the best they can.
Hardest part of the job is dealing with unmotivated member who want results without putting in the effort. Establishing a connection with them takes time, but is worth it in the end.

During my time as the Club Manager I had an amazing opportunity to be able to diversify into a role that suited my personality but yet provided me with very rewarding and challenging situations.

The club was a female environment of 150 members from all walks of life. The ages ranged from 12-87 yrs young. My focus was to aim at the same visions and  to work very hard for the same  fitness & health goals.We learned very quickly to become one in our beliefs of life long health and the benefits of being truly the best woman you can be.

My job as the Club Manager was very engaging and rewarding at the end of my work day. I made a lot of life long friends.

This was a fun dynamic workplace. Very much a work at your own pace type setting. Dealing with components belonging to your last line of defense on a warship, you were never in a rush to fix or replace something. It was always stressed to you to be certain it was properly maintained.
I was pleased to be certified  by the Canadian Navy standards and pass their soldering exam.
Such an impressively clean laboratory to work in.
Management was great, you were always invited to in house lunches, offered baseball tickets or hockey.
We had our own private gym onsite.

One of my favorite places to workout and to work.  A typical day either started with opening,  or closing at the end of the-day.  Writing up Memberships,  Weighing and Measuring Clients and teaching the Circuit were all part of an all important venture for the clients.  We also supervised the circuit during our shift.  At the end of each shift,  we would sanitize everything,  vacuum,  do the washrooms and finish any paperwork necessary.  Co-workers and management were great to work for and with.  The hardest part of the job for me was locking the doors at the end of the day.  The most enjoyable was opening the door in the mornings!!
