It's really a shame, there are so many great people who work at DIRTT and they deserve so much more, but I feel like they don't know any better as many people have worked there for a long time like 10+ years but it's been their only employer ever so they don't really have anything to compare to. Its unfortunately a very toxic workplace (at least at the Calgary offices/factories) and so disorganized and dysfunctional. I joined for the prospect of cool/interesting work but have been left disillusioned and jaded by what I've seen. No raises, no paid training, managers and directors are bad - like really bad! The benefits are NOT good (despite what others are saying, they are actually not that great). The more tenured executives are only there because they've been there a long time but have no business being leaders. The newer executives (those hired 2019 -onwards) are overworked, overwhelmed and exhausted and are not allowed to hire anyone to help support their other staff. The CEO is not well liked and he is not a nice guy in person (although he pretends to be at town halls), he is so out of touch with reality and with employees.

Hired as a temp. Paid well below the average area rate of $24-$30

Forced to do most of the main managers work while she stressed and cried almost daily.

Pretended to be nice. 

Hired some one else simply because she was female despite me investing 3 months of my life into learning the nuances of the company and the computer systems.

She brought a dog and wasnt even bothered with changing or cleaning his water dish. It was filthy black I had to constantly clean it and let the dog outside to relieve itself. It wasnt mistreated, just a bit neglected in that regard. 

The people there constantly bicker and talk about one another behind their backs, and sometimes to their face. Daily arguments and disgruntled employees actively showing their disgruntled nature a commmon and highly visible occurrence.

The advancement was poor. They would make men bust their tails for a full year and then "reward" them with $1 salary increase and act like it was a gift from the heavens. Yikes. Don't work here, at least not in shipping or logistics.

Had a staff lunch (you paid $3 a day) and bar which was great. Parking was ample. Location was decently close to main roads.

A typical day involves cross-functional teamwork on interior construction projects, with clear priorities set each morning. I learned a lot about lean manufacturing, modular construction, and how design integrates with factory production. Management is generally supportive and accessible, though project timelines can shift quickly and communication during those changes could improve.

Workplace culture is collaborative and values-driven. People take pride in the product and there’s a strong focus on sustainability and doing things differently in construction. The hardest part is managing peak workloads when multiple projects hit production at once. The most enjoyable part is seeing complex, custom interiors go from concept to reality and knowing the team built something that improves spaces for end users.

This company is so disorganized and is always putting out fires instead of being proactive. With the new American Management team (2018-2019) are sexist and are firing people without getting to know them and what their work load entails.

All of the perks and fantastic culture that the past CEO created is being taken away which used to be the reward for long hours and hard work however they haven't changed expectations of long hours while taking many perks away. 

The talent team is terrible . They show favouritism and do not support the management team, only tell them they failed when something goes wrong. 

All in all they are running what used to be an amazing place to work into the ground and making it all about the money and forgetting about the people which is extremely sad.

They also preach about safety, yet operations demands are always priority so employees are allowed and expected to do things that are extremely unsafe.

This is the most unprofessional environment I have ever worked at. Plagued by favoritism and inappropriate work place “jokes”. It’s like high school, everyone is trying to through everyone under the bus. People will be laughing with each other one minute and talk about them in a negative light as soon as they walk away. people are ALWAYS  talking behind your back, those close with HR know and talk about confidential information regarding other employees personal and professional information. Salaries can be significantly different based on who the favorite is despite working in the same team. Compensation is mediocre compared to industry comparable. It’s just a mentally draining environment with every team overworked plus understaffed and with supervisors requesting additional work just to look good for their managers. 

I was so excited to work at DIRTT and the first few months were great. I liked the free lunches and snacks and the weekly beer and h'ordeuvre nights. But it was the most stressful job I've ever had. I was essentially doing two different jobs, with two bosses in completely different parts of the company, that did not communicate well.  There is so much pressure from management to work overtime, work over lunch, etc. On the surface it looks cool and fun, but it's quite toxic underneath. Speaking of toxic, they are a huge green-washer that throws literal tons of MDF on a regular basis. The whole bespoke angle makes for a huge environmental impact. 
I did learn a lot and wish I had advocated for myself and been a better communicator, and focused on different goals, but lessons learned.

This company looks great from the outside but don't let that persuade you.  It's truly not how it looks from the outside.  

My experience at DIRTT was dreadful, horrific, awful, unpleasant, miserable, agonizing, torturous... I can go on.... 

New management with terrible leadership that bully and display favoritism.  Management that is "too busy" to talk to you, lacks communication, professionalism, trust, respect, appreciation and support.  

If you value your career progress and seek advancement, this is not a place for you. This is not a career building environment.  They don't mentor you or teach you, they blame you when things go wrong.  Is that leadership?  Your boss is the biggest factor in your career success and a boss that doesn't trust you won't give you opportunities to grow.

Don't get too comfortable

Really nice and fun place to work. That is if you are not in the health and safety department and subordinated to the COO who doesn't understand the purpose of HSE. Be warned there have been many HSE supervisors (they don'y use "manager" titles, but this is what the job was) in the recent years, all left or have been fired for "not fitting with the culture". The reality is that all clashed with the above mentioned COO......Extremely unprofessional. I have never been talk to like that never in my life!
Other than that: really innovative company, fun and relaxed work environment, smart co-workers and a lot of involvement in local organizations and causes. Awesome technology, cleverly integrated, really revolutionary.

A typical day was about navigating misinformation and fraud to find lower and middle management flaws to cover up. I believe I learned that Fraud and private interests control most of the company. Management was corrupt and ineffective. The workplace culture surrounds itself around immigrants and nonalbertans which reflect a hollow and shallow PR face. The hardest part of the job was navigating the culture, and finding another job elsewhere. The most enjoyable part was leaving at the end of the day. 

I had a great opportunity to work with a numerous variety of people and enjoyed working here. I learned a massive amount of skills from the direct people I worked with. The culture is amazing and participation in company events are fun! The food is delicious and the people really want to be there. The only downfall was the "reactive" nature to the department I worked in and the lack of consistency and direction. There was no focus or objective to strive for and communication was lacking. Goals changed daily creating a disoriented and negative work environment. Management was not encouraging and seemed to have less knowledge on matters than the team did.
