What attracted me to this job initially was it's location. My commute is enjoyable due to no competing traffic. Everyone is driving to the city for work meanwhile I am heading in the opposite direction. 

They treat their employees really well. I always feel appreciated by my bosses and my coworkers.

 If you enjoy using a multitude of skills throughout the work day - this job is for you! It's a smaller site so everyone does what they can where they can to get the job done. If you have a "can do! attitude" and the ability to work alone / prioritize you will thrive in this environment. 

Very safety orientated. Everyone has a positive attitude. I have yet to meet a coworker who doesn't have a positive mindset. They encourage everyone to take cool down breaks when it's super hot outside. Cold water and hot coffee is always available in the break room. 

From what I can see - if you do a good job you will be rewarded for your work! A lot of the workers have been working here for years so I would say worker retention is good. That tells me people are happy here because they choose to work here for multiple years. 

Overall, it is an excellent place to work!

Typical work day....Unless you are the plant manager, you need to watch out,  no support from the managers as they are just as worried on losing their jobs as anyone trying to bring forward an issue.  Told your  incompetent, maintenance is  blamed lots for things that go wrong when it is employee error, specifically one person who is no longer here now..  What we learn is  if you are good at at pointing fingers and passing on the issue or ignoring it and taking down your fellow workers with the plant manager you will do well in this place.  Hard part is close to home but who wants to stay. The pay not the greatest then what you do, and are expected to do more, you may have 2 jobs in one and get paid poorely for all the work with real no compensation at all. Plant manger expects you to answer his call no matter when, after hours do not matter is you are on call or not...Good luck  Most enjoyable part is leaving and going home

A typical day at the plant involves doing operator rounds checking plant areas, equipment and systems. The plant is smaller than those in the north at Fort Mcmurray but do have alot of similarities to the mills out east. You can learn alot from the Ops supervisors as they are the most experienced on the plant site. Management supports their employees well with competitive pay, good benefits, free coffee, food, and often incentivize with gift cards for groceries, meals, and such. The culture is a bit tough as the maintenance crew are a bit rough around the edges. Good welders there but the others like to stir the pot and make the job difficult. The maintenance work can be poor, especially so on the electrical side. If you're a contractor, there is plenty of opportunity for a company to make inroads in this area.  

A nice small company.  It didn't matter which department you were a part of,  If something needed done, everyone worked together to get the job done.  There were lots of opportunities to learn.  You put in the extra effort and your work was noticed and appreciated. 
That was years ago.  It is a much different company today.   Employees are just numbers and are treated poorly by superiors.  The worst of these are a father and son.  They put others down and enjoy bulling those below them instead of working together to get the job done.  This creates an awful work environment.   And management turns a blind eye to it.     
So if you are leaving a large company because you think you will be treated better and appreciated by a small company, you would be mistaken.   
If you can avoid the bad apples, There are still opportunities learn and grow and take home a good paycheck.   

Worked as the hogger operator. Pay was very bad, moral was low for employees out in the yard. Tradesmen were good guys and knew their stuff. The hogger shack is old and home made, space heater for heat and an old office chair for a seat. Daily tasks were to sit in the shack as wood rolled and shook by you on it's way to the hogger. You sat on your office chair with a rake by a window pulling off rocks and metal before they reached the hogger. Cleanup duties included blowing off and shoveling saw dust,  using skid steer to clean up piles. The odd time you were called to help tradesmen in tasks inside the plant itself. 

Small power plant, which is great for cross competency.  Able to learn lots of skills in one place if you are willing and don't mind a dirty environment.  Co-workers are for the most part easy to get along with and everyone helps each other out to get the job done.  The tradesmen are knowledgeable guys and work hard, and the yard crew is fun.  With that said, morale is very low.  The cause for this in my opinion would be a father and son combo who work there.  Both are only interested in making themselves look good and will berate others to do so.   They are bullies and create a toxic environment.  This is the reason for the high turnover rate.   I would not recommend working there until there are some changes.  Besides that, the work is rewarding, and the commute is quiet. 

Very interesting place to work.  Exposure to a lot of different processes and many different skills can be learned.  It is an old facility, but the hard work of the locals who work there keep it running. 
Great place to start a career and advance quickly as the turn over rate is very high. This would be because it is a dirty place to work and hard physical work is required.  But it is also because of the toxic work environment caused by a father and son.  It is unfortunate that they are in positions of power, and are so desperate to hold onto that power that they literally bribed/intimidated people to write good reviews on Indeed.
Most of the people here are great coworkers, but be aware that your mental health will take a hit from the couple who are not.

Most of the people at this site are fun and easy to get along with. Maintenance works extremely hard and creatively to keep the plant running without recognition, all while being called expendable, having very little budget, and being treated generally poorly. The yard crews are crucial to plant operations and work long, dusty, hard days to complete their daily tasks, but with very poor wages. 
The pay inside the plant is better, but no amount is enough to deal with the bullying from the father and son that work here. If you’re good a being a suck-up, you’ll do great here.
The “Junior Assistant” position for 4th Class steam time is simply a labourer position, and you may have to raise a stink for a position into the plant to get real power engineering experience. 

An enjoyable and satisfying work enviroment where your not held back from expanding your knowlage base and furthering ones career. There is an ability to advance positions within the company as well as your salary.
The Staff share a proffesional yet Family orientaded atmosphere where ideas can be  exchanged and shared without fear of ridicule or harrasment.
downside can be a person does sometimes get a little dirty due to the type of fuel being used, however the Company does supply all safety or health protections to mitigate any risks.
