-Under experienced, overwhelmed Leadership. Deceitfulness, and dishonesty is common in group.
-Hired with a promise of 4 weeks holidays (text messages). Two weeks after signing & starting, I received notice its been changed to 3 weeks. Have written documentation to verify.
-Hired with a promise of advancement within 6 months. After starting, again learn advancement isn't possible within 12 month period. Have documentation to verify.
-4 Hours of actual hands on training of practices, processes, and digital programs, 60 days to "figure it out" on your own.
-Without hesitation your 3 month probation can & will be extended to 6 months. 
-Micromanaged on a daily basis.
-A 7 day project will quickly change to a 3 day project without notice or collaboration.
-Opportunity to work out of a used storage room. No office, no doors, located behind reception desk with community microwave located directly beside your work table.
-Office taken away within 2 weeks of being hired.
-No desk, you get to work on a table.
-No area to store privileged & private information. You get a file folder.
-Vacation days are reserved for plant shut downs. If you don't have vacation days left, they are taken from the following year, or pay is taken. If vacation days haven't already been reduced (see above).
-If vacation days are left @ end of year, you are not compensated for them. They are taken.
-No job security. Rampant firing without cause. I was fired (without cause) for using vacation days that weren't "approved".
-You're not even a number, you're a warm body to fill a required position.
-By far, worst working experience of my 20 year career. 
-Cant make this stuff up. It will blow your mind. Good luck



In my short 3 weeks working at Dehavilland  I had nothing but issues with the harsh if not authoritarian system that management had set in place. One of their interesting rules was no talking in the warehouse. It was the most ridiculed rule in the warehouse and for a good reason. Management was terrible on a corporate, however, the floor managers were mostly decent. Always got along no complaints. The workers were friendly and I had some very interesting discussions with them. My biggest issue about this company is the fact that there is little warning of termination. They simply will pull you away from workers 30 min before shift end and fire ya so that you don’t have a scene. The reasons they gave were stupid and if I could, I would challenge the termination. Another major red flag is the amount of  restructures they have done in the last 5 years. It doesn’t give the company a good look in my eyes. Overall, I would never recommend anyone to work at dehavilland.  There is some strange stuff going on there that they need to handle first. Only good thing about this place was that the floor was clean. That’s about it. 

P.S. Job description was nothing of what tasks I was given. 

I have worked at a number of different machine shops during my career and the machine shop at the Victoria location is by far the worst managed shop I have worked at. The current manager has a zero tolerance for scrap parts, so you are expected not to make any mistakes. This includes understanding exactly what is required (drawings dating back to the 1950's) that you have trouble reading, set up instructions that are unclear and routinely don't match the programing for the part. And many other idiocracies that come with working there. Now if we were working with large parts that would make sense to have a minimal scrap rate, but we are mostly running aluminum small parts in a jobing shop manner. Short runs and lots of setups.
The only thing you will here from the manager is negative feedback. If you are a part of the managers cultural group you will get preferiantial treatment.

There are some amazing individuals who are invested in the mandate of De Havilland, to support Canadian.  However, the culture has been toxic, and some senior leaders lack vision for success.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Many teams are understaffed, and stress loads and burnout are consistent concerns.  A lack of executive leadership strategy in resource needs and understanding required business outcomes is impacting progress for initiatives. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic and unethical behaviour has been tolerated too long.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
at the end, thwarting unwarranted verbal attacks - due to lies and unethical behaviour.

You may be given just a cleaning job for whole month. Job distribution is not fair. You can't grow your skill or learn new skill in this company. Most leadhands don't try to build team spirit and don't see each individual's strength. Most ACA'S do not have enough knowledge so they easily get offended if you try to suggest anything. Employees are divided into groups based on race and never mix. Lots of gossips and unhealthy conversations going on. Some Managements are not approachable. Not much growth to look forward to.

Despite being encouraged to collaborate; the reality is that it is not supported when other teams make decisions without appropriate consult, negatively impacting others.  Messaging to senior leadership is filtered, giving information where decisions are made, using inaccurate or manipulated information. It is a rush and rework environment, where strategy and transparency are sparse.  Toxic behaviour  is encouraged including bullying, intimidation and unrealistic work expectations.

The re-brand did not help. After years of neglect, chaos, severe lack of organization and any type of structure in their leadership team this company is restructuring and reorganizing again! They do not know their own aircraft, their business model has changed 5 times in 3 years. Consistently lose respect of the industry, employees and customers from their ignorance and gross assortment of a poorly slapped together, always late plan. The abuse, stress, anxiety and unsafe environments that the remaining leaders create is the result of their ignorance. planning managers can’t plan their way out an open door room. Save yourself. No one wants to work here. The culture never existed, neither did any semblance of a leadership team 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great people to work with and lots of challenging work.  You are always busy!  Culture is great and pay is great too whether you are unionized or not.

Juggling many priorities with tight timelines.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is good.  High expectations, but patience for new employees.  Very prominent safety culture.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Supporting production floor figuring out problems, working on some longer term projects, and other stuff too.

Coworkers are helpful but very poor management. The job that i did is not the job i signed for.

The management! The manager kept asking me to sweep and vacuum the floor, throw garbage outside the building. Manager promised a lot to me but non of them happen. The worse is they fire me without reason. It’s very degrading!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Very poor executive leadership and structure. The potential is there to be an amazing company with a fully engaged owner; however the executive team is dysfunctional led by a toxic CEO.  It took the better part of 3 years to clarify company vision & values and strategy is still unclear.
