Ineffective leadership and favoritism define the culture at this company. Decisions are not made based on merit but rather on personal relationships and nationality. French employees and those who have personal ties with upper management are frequently promoted, regardless of competence. This creates an environment where skilled and hardworking individuals are overlooked, leading to widespread frustration among employees.

The company preaches values such as integrity, respect, and teamwork, but in practice, these are nothing more than empty words. Leadership does not embody these principles, and employees quickly learn that success is determined by who you know rather than what you contribute. There is little accountability at the top, and poor management decisions are commonplace.

Another concerning issue is how cost-cutting measures are handled. Instead of making strategic adjustments or improving efficiency, leadership resorts to layoffs as the primary solution. This approach creates instability and damages morale, as employees are constantly on edge, wondering if they will be next. There is no real investment in retaining or developing talent, which further weakens the organization.

Overall, this company suffers from a toxic culture where favoritism, ineffective leadership, and short-term thinking dictate operations. Talented employees are undervalued, and the lack of real leadership makes long-term success uncertain. Anyone considering joining should be aware that the company’s stated values do not align with reality.

After visiting their location in Brossard, Quebec I fell in love with the brand. I didn't know anything about them but my experience was enough to find me doing research and becoming more and more interested. When I saw a distribution center was opening near where I live, I applied for several postings because I really wanted to be a part of their movement. It took quite a long time for them to get back to me, but once they did, the process took two days and I was hired. I work as an order picker but they have a very versatile policy in the sense that once you work in the warehouse, it is encouraged to help in different departments and become multi talented? There is targets but easily achievable and honestly I have never felt any pressure. In my experience they have been extremely flexible, trying to accommodate me with my schedule. As a part time employee I don't have insurances but they do offer other benefits and the warehouse has a bunch of perks on site (including the best gym I've ever seen outside of an actual full sized gym, and a multi functional court). I love working there and honestly if the salary was higher would definitely consider doing it full time but for now, part time is perfect for me.

I was just recently hired but man, I can't wait to grow for this company. Coming from a big corporate environment, I was used to being given tasks and projects that I need to complete. There was no flexibility. Here in Decathlon, you are encouraged to learn different skill set that interests you. You want to work in IT? go for it. How about logistics? You bet. How about as a sales man? Yes sir. They do things differently for sure. From a mental perspective that's a good thing, because you will not get bored doing the same thing over and over again.

It's also my first company where you get to decide what role you want in your team. Being helpful is really encouraged and the toxic corporate culture where you are just a number is not present here.

They pay fair for what you are worth. You just have to learn to negotiate especially if you work for the service sector. (I'm in IT for reference)

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing, no leadership and no clarity in Decathlon Canada! A very inexperienced guy leading Ontario (GTA) going around promoting his friends! Lacks leadership qualities ! It’s a good part time job if you’re in school

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The leadership! 
Young team, inexperienced, lacks knowledge and leadership qualities! Favouritism works best here! If you are thinking of promotions, decathlon Canada is NOT the place!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Extremely unhappy to go to work! Would wonder when I’d go home

Had a great experience at first, competent management, excellent team leader, I felt very welcomed. I had been originally hired for a full time position, but was told that I would have a meeting with management after 2 weeks. This never happened. The moment our workshop lead left, I, a part time employee, was expected to run the workshop on my own. I had prior experience in working in various workshop environments but never running and maintaining one, let alone as the only workshop employee. Management had very little communication and provided me with very little help during this time. I was recently let go from the company without any justifiable reason, with the only reasons given being that I was in the workshop too much, and that someone with more skills had been hired. I was two days away from the end of my probation. There was no warning, no indication that I had done anything wrong

Not your average retail employer. Decathlon is new to Canada but not new to the rest of the world. There's a ton of support from people who have been working with Decathlon for decades, but with the growth potential and expansion of a new company. Decathlon sells 95% in house brands that range from base models to high end so customers find the level they want, but with brands the might not be familiar with.

The culture of the company is fun and rewarding. The pace each day will keep you moving. The feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day is great. Be ready to learn a lot, talk to customers, and provide amazing customer service.

They preach a very inclusive and community driven atmosphere of sports and outdoor activities/equipment, but will not hesitate for a second to cut you out of said activities or out of your job entirely. Despite location they use every opportunity to get out of the community they're supposed to be about in favour of much further destinations and expect you to go. Overworking is expected and they are almost always understaffed. Will not have your back if anything happens. Got attacked by a customer? You get written up. To top it all off, when faced with financial issues, they get rid of the people that can actually help in favour of uneducated and misinformed part timers. Avoid at all costs.

Excellent work environment. On a typical day, I am leading my team, assisting customers, and contributing to a variety of different projects and tasks. It's a very collaborative place where everyone's opinion matters. The hardest part is the challenge of establishing a new company here in Canada, the number of things that must get done, and the fact one has to wear many different hats. You have to be agile, and also adapt to a different work culture (Company with European roots and a worldwide presence). I enjoy being a part of the team that cares about the customer, the company's mission of being a leader in the sports world, and does it in a simple, effective way. 

I have been working at the Decathlon Vaughan location for a little over three months, and I can truly say that this job could not make me happier. People always say that first jobs are dreadful and make you lose energy, whereas in my experience, I am delighted to say that it is the exact opposite. I always feel energized to go to work and enjoy working in a safe, happy, joyful environment - especially where I can share my love of sports with customers. My managers are very supportive and offer me the tools I need to succeed. I learn something new every day and I cannot wait to continue learning on my Decathlon journey. My co-workers are friendly and welcoming, always making me feel valued and appreciated. I want to give a big thank you to Decathlon for giving me this experience. :)

Decathlon is one of the best companies to work for! They give full-time benefits to part time employees like paid leave, vacation pay etc. They’re having team building event every month in good time. And work culture is modern and supportive. But it also depends on the branch. In Brampton, its one of the worse, toxic culture when i used to work. They didn’t know the policies, break schedules and no emotional intelligence. But at present its better than before now with new management. But if you want to work in a great company and for the love of sports, work at Burlington or other locations.
