Depending on department, you are always being watched. Managers are managing managers and those need assistants. The pyramid is shifting. Very top heavy. Friends manage friends so they are untouchable and not monitored. Micro managing is rampant. Can’t do your job without managers making things more difficult. Different rules for different people. Brown nosers  get ahead. Hard to take pride in a job when you are under a microscope, so moral is low. Most co-workers are decent so that helps. To much stress in the department I worked in. Pay was decent and benefits were decent which helps due to stressors.

At first I was excited to work for a municipality with pension and job advancement. First season was good until end of September then I bounced around between departments for a few weeks; not sure when I would be laid off. Management was not very forthcoming with information. Second season was okay but same work duties but more of them. It was hard to keep up. Ended getting injured on the job and that where it went downhill. Third season and I have been pigeon holed. If you get a job with Saanich aim high, and when you get there don't complain

There's some good staff but the leadership is driving them  away.  No recycling  program everything  is thrown in the garbage  There is no pride in the facility and very little accountability  for poor job performance.  It's interesting  that the public doesn't  demand better in a facility that they pay for. They are very well paid  so it's disappointing. There's better recreation  centers to work at if you have your RO ticket.

Even as a 20 year employee, there is a reason I’m on Indeed. What used to be a marvellous place of work has become toxic. Miserable Direction and Management make miserable employees. If you can withstand rampant apathy and careless leadership, you may do well. If you enjoy a vibrant, motivating and positive work environment, you won’t find it at Saanich.

Good pay but they treat you like garbage I was a casual custodian for 8 years and would not move me to regular seasonal like it said in collective aggreement if you had 10 thousand hours they have to and if you were to apply for full time they would move a injured employee from different department into it if you turn down a shift they hold it against you

Executive Leadership has no vision, in fact they all do their own thing. Not a team, have no interest in working for the best interest of the people. Each member of the executive leadership only cares about their own division.

Portrays themselves as a great place to work and caring about their employees.  When to comes down to it you are just another number and they don't care about the employee.  Not a great work atmosphere or employer.  Not wiling to listen either.  Management likes to bully.

short shifts, expectancy to be able to bid for shifts every day of the week, have to cover your own shifts from a large list of staff to contact. one two three four five 

I thoroughly enjoyed working for the District of Saanich.  The values that the District embodies really shone through with the work that my fellow lifeguards, instructors and supervisors did every day.
