Dominion Bar + Kitchen

There was a time when this review would be glowingly positive, but now there’s very little good that I can say about this company. Pay mistakes are frequent. Hours get inputted wrong, stat days don’t get paid out right, tips get messed up all the time. When you bring it to management’s attention it can sometimes take weeks (or in some cases over a year) to get the mistakes corrected. Upper management doesn’t seem to care about the effect it has on you financially. New employees are given preference for shifts over employees that have worked there for years and speaking out about the schedule issues makes you lose more shifts. If you book a day off you lose shifts for the following 1-2 weeks too. There is little room to grow, in many cases outside hires are made despite having many capable and willing candidates ready to move up. It can take years to move up and even requests to be cross trained are shut down pretty fast. The general manager position is a revolving door and any stability in the restaurant is long gone. The assistant managers do what they can but currently have little power to make an impactful difference. Staff appreciation is zero to none. The executive/management Christmas party can keep the staff 2 hours past closing to serve them but can’t even be bothered to close down the restaurant so the staff a can have a proper Christmas party. The level of disrespect and neglect towards the staff is mind boggling.

I never worked here because I wanted to but because it was the only place that would hire me.

Customers hardly ever showed up and I was constantly sent home within 3 hours of my shift.

General Managers/AGMs/Assistant Managers withheld me from growth in my job; They wouldn’t allow me to do any major tasks but rather the tedious stuff that nobody else wanted to do, they wouldn’t schedule me for enough shifts and I was hardly making enough money so I couldn’t afford to order food during my breaks or even take a sick day when I needed it.

Whenever I would address concerns such as pay mistakes (several times they’ve tried to get away with it), HR would put it off for days, there was a lack of proper training as i kept on forgetting things (like any person) and nobody reminded me until my employee review. 



My work experience at Dominion was by far the most pleasant work experience I’ve ever had. The entire team is a family, everyone looks out for each other. I learned a variety of skills while working at Dominion, thanks to the best management ever. I also made friends, that I hope to have forever. Over all, I highly recommend this job if you are looking for the most understanding and helpful bosses you’ve ever had, flexible hours, friendly co workers, dedicated kitchen staff, and GREAT experience. Also the bartenders are the best in the business. 

Management is probably the worst I’ve ever dealt with. Not quite sure how the GM has been kept for so long. Managers will talk poorly about you to other staff. Instead of having conversations with you on how you can improve, they’ll just take shifts away from you. These managers don’t know how to communicate, only know how to be petty. Can’t give their old staff hours but can hire new ones and give them the hours. Such a backwards place work at.

Probably the worst or second worst place I have had the pleasure of working at. Selfish, misogynistic front of house management staff who are only there to collect paychecks and not actually improve the business. Care more about drama then running a proper team. Very good at pretending to be your friend to your face but will talk behind your back.

I worked as a server only for couple months and I decided to quit. Not worth the stress and the environment working there from the bad management, absolutely no team work whatsoever, if you have problems you pretty much on your own. Then also no communications to the kitchen. While the head chef, Chef Jo was nice but most of the cook was horrible to work with. 

Best job in the industry I have ever had. From the first interview to now...5 months later... has been awesome. I feel supported and am recognized for my hard work. Great staff and customers make it a joy to come in every day.

Everyone here treats each other well and it's such a wholesome environment. Best part about the job is honestly the people you get to work with. The regulars here are also so fun to interact with. 

kitchen is disorganized and very unwelcoming. Training is sparse with absolutely no room for advancement. Sous chef was the only saving grace. Most shifts the place was dead.

Not a bad place to be at, co-workers were awesome! They were what made this place work for me. Unfortunately the managers and Chefs can be hard to deal with. Overall, I would slightly recommend
