Don Cherrys Sports Grill

A typical day at work mainly involves preparing menu appetizers, prepping ingredients for main course items, and assisting the chefs with main course food prep when necessary. The most important thing I learned while working here is good communication skills. Unless the workers in the kitchen are clear with each other about what is being done and what needs to be done the working flow will be disrupted. Management is generally friendly, but can be difficult to work with at times. Co-workers on the other hand are always very friendly. Even those in the higher up positions when asking for something are polite and professional, and aren't afraid of adding some humour in it here and there. The hardest part of the work is the need to multitask. There will be times when you are asked to do one job which will be interrupted by multiple other errands, such as prepping orders coming through. The most enjoyable part of the job, as mentioned before, is the friendly work environment. Especially when the kitchen begins to get busy, its nice to be able to smile and laugh.

By far the worst place I’ve ever worked (speaking solely as a server). Management is a useless joke. Any issues/concerns/complaints made by employees are completely brushed off. Employees have no idea what they’re doing because there’s no structure/teaching to the entire restaurant. They hire people with no serving experience, don’t train them on anything, and then leave them alone to mind the entire restaurant for hours. Even the workers that do stick around still have no idea about basic things on the menu or drinks. The money isn’t good, you’ll need to rely on the hourly wage because tip money is basically nonexistent (have worked 8 hour shifts making under 20 dollars in tips). And overall there’s just a negative vibe to the place (constant stress, rumours, drama...) I would definitely advise others to stay away.

As a hostess at Don Cherry's Sports Grill, I am very fortunate to have the job that i process. This is my first job in a dinning restaurant. As I have been told by previous managers, I am a fast learner and fast pace worker so learning all the new regulations of a restaurant and developing new skills was not a big challenge for me. Being a hostess for the first time is an exciting experience. I adore greeting costumers and interacting with new people. Don Cherry's is a wonderful family owned business that is very welcoming to new employees and costumers to ensure a wonderful experience, no matter who you are! I respect the management's passion for their food and customer's experience. Their drive motivates and inspires me to become a better worker. As I am in the process of obtaining my smart serve certificate, I am looking forward to pursuing my career serving and becoming a waitress!

A typical day at work is fast-paced, socially indulging and both mentally and physically occupying. I learned a variety of cooking methods, a couple recipes to put under my belt, alterior ways to do certain tasks and a new respect for sports bars in that they are very busy and the food is more complex then I had first thought. Management was excellent both a friend and a respectable asset to the team, very hands on and would do just about anything for you. Co-workers were fun, easy to get along with, really good people that treated you like family. Hardest part of the job was keeping motivated with the monotany drom day t day. Most enjoyable part was serving food and recieving excellent feedback.

A typical day at work {when i worked} would be taking peoples orders, punching them in them i would get their coffee or coffees and cutlery and anything else they needed and when the food was ready i would bring it out of the kitchen and bring it to the appropriate table. I like the people their they are kind and sometimes rude but it depends on how busy it is. The manager is unorganized and i dont like that and keepss cutting peoples shifts cause she over booked people. The most enjoyable part of the job when the customers start talking about themselves because then you learn about different people and different back grounds. The hardest part of the job would have to be when theres no hours and you cant be scheduled.

A typical day at work included socializing with customers, serving beverages and cleaning. I learned that work can be fun when your on your grind! Enjoy the people you work with and for and the environment becomes more enjoyable. Management was beyond excellent, reasonable and easy to communicate with. Co-workers were fantastic, energetic and very welcoming. Hardest part of my job was dealing with crabby customers, but you put your best foot forward and take it day to day. The most enjoyable part of working at Don's was meeting the friend that i have today.

Typically worked 4 hours to 12 hours shifts, depending on the day and the situation. First serving job, learned a lot about dealing with customers. Management was excellent, well organized and accommodating. The co-workers were extremely friendly and accepting of me as a new employee in a small, close-knit environment. Hardest part of the job was dealing with difficult customers in a professional manner, however was not extremely hard to do. I seriously enjoyed the interaction with such a variety of people and found myself having a good time during every shift.

Busy. There was always someone to talk to or something to do

enjoy working in a fast paced environment always kept busy. Enjoyed serving customers and catering to their needs. Great teamwork. Management always helped when needed. I've learned that when everyone pulls to gether as a team it becomes a well run machine. It was always nice to hear that the customers were happy with service and that they would definitely return.

Don Cherry's Sports Grill has a high turnover rate. Nepotism in the lounge. Poor management. The sports bar is located in Chances Casino which means longer hours on the weekends and most employees do not like that. Some of the servers and bartenders do not look happy working there.
