A typical day at work would insist on coming in in the morning, counting trucks, then after we count the floors, then fix any mistakes that are in any of the orders in order for them to be correct. Then we do inspections on all our equipment, making sure all the machines have proper fluids and are greased. Then we deal with a great deal of customers during the morning, and throughout the whole day during that, there are transport trucks that come in drywall insulation that all has to be unloaded and organized and put away properly during this process. You are expected to build to keep ahead of the game.
I strongly recommend anybody that has a Strong work ethic and take pride into everything they do without cutting corners!
I find the hardest part of my job the most enjoyable part of my job. Nothing is like a challenge in life , everybody man up the world so please don’t apply if you’re a don’t like to work hard and don’t like to get dirty.
What I’ve learnt over the years it doesn’t matter what you do just do it. I’ve seen over the years many things that makes me question myself, but everybody has to understand that if you just keep your head down and keep doing what you’re doing and work hard that one day you will achieve, what you desire in this company or another! life doesn’t give out handouts.


A typical work day consisted of entering orders, taking phone calls and answering emails. 
I learned the basics of construction but was mainly taught who not to trust in the work place. 
the store management was under strict orders from upper management to write anyone and everyone up no matter how small the infraction was. clocking in for example, there was one machine for 30 staff and if you clock in 30 seconds past your start time, you get written up. you also can’t clock in more than 5 minutes prior to your start time. You can also get written up for forgetting an attachment on an email. 
the hardest part of the job was dealing with the lack of management and fear of retaliation if any issues were brought up. the company states there’s an open door policy but it was never the case. 
the most enjoyable part of the job were my co workers who became friends. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part for me was our customers, once they warmed up to me, I became friends with almost all of them.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The pay was not great, initial training was there, but then nothing after, even when I was told I would be trained in other areas and asked multiple times.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The majority of the employees are great to work with, there is no consistency between branches however and the branch I was at cater to the wrong employees.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Depending on the day, some days I would be busy the vast majority of the day, other days were very quiet with only one of two customers or calls.

Shoemaker is a large commercial focused construction supply company, and is a fantastic place to work if you like good people and a reliable job. I worked at Shoemaker for over 5 years and loved the freedom and reliability offered. If your willing to work, they are willing to teach you how to be useful and give you a good paycheck. Shoemaker is incredibly efficient at running warehouses; management is top notch, and in my  5+ years I learned how to be world class Forklift operator/organizer. I would highly recommend working here, especially if you like a sense of accomplishment and working independently.

It frankly sucked. Long hours of slinging drywall, everyone's asinine, management was incompetent half the time, and everyone on sites you visit usually hates you. Typical day started at 6:30 in the morning, checking the truck was properly strapped down, then off to the first site, where you'd unstrap everything and begin the delivery, sometimes it would be relatively easy, but usually it was difficult. Many sites had poor access, or messy hallways that tangled the wheels of the carts. Once you slogged through that delivery, it was off to the next. Usually got through 2 to three truckloads a day. Could get off work at 3, could get off at 9. Depended on how busy it was that day. Thoroughly miserable, and I would only recommend it to an enemy.

Vary disorganized and night shift work is mandatory until all work is complete and alot of guys are slow so expect to be working from 11am till 3am or longer

Like I said the ppl are kool to work with but managments on a power trip

They will start you on nights so you'll  e working from 11am till when everything is done don't expect to get 8 hrs you'll be forced to work 15hrs or more cuz it's a 11am till done and some guys like to milk the hours or are slow

Not a good place to work 
Some of drivers don’t give brakes to helpers and managers support them

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They don’t give breaks even we have 1 hour break a day 15 minutes 30 minutes and 15 minutes 
They don’t gave lunch break 
Even manager and other office staff do 15 smoke breaks if ask about or talk about your break they yell at you 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very bad environment manager is rude 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
When I went for my lunch and everyone manager dispatcher and sales person come to see me and told me leave you lunch and strap the truck

Good luck trying to get a day off sick from the managers. If you wanna get bullied into coming to work when you're sick this place is for you! If you hate your family this place is for you cause you won't be able to see them! They talk a lot about how the company is so safe and all this stuff but if you bring up safety concerns you're told to: "suck it up" or "we'll look into it" and nothing changes. Most guys need to threaten quitting just get a raise or switch who they are with.

Day starts at 545am. If you're home by 730pm...you got off early. Don't plan on scheduling a social life during the week, and if 5hours OT isn't enough for you  be prepared to work Saturday too. They run the drivers to the max time they can drive. Load after load after load, poor scheduling from shipping, high demands to work late, not really optional, get chastised for leaving after 13hours and not staying 15 everyday.
The crews are all good to work with, management is....ok....hours are awful, unless you're single and have no kids as most the guys do. Pay is alright once you hit ot...but then the tax man takes it anyway 

Start at 5am delivering building supplies to each costumer and jobsite throughout the day until the job is done. I learned efficiency, how to drive a big rig, operate multiple cranes and machinery. I led a team of helpers so being a leader quickly became mandatory to ensure efficiency for the company and myself. Being class I driver, crane operator and laborer then working 12 to 14hrs a day is very hard on your body. Most people you work with on a day to day are great company and solid workers.
