Durham Regional Police

The Durham Regional Police are an amazing unit. The police officers 
are very nice and have amazing values. Their life experience and 
professionalism are impeccable. My co-workers are the nicest people 
I have ever met and there is no place I would rather be. The typical day of work was listening to police officers talk about themselves and meeting different units and learning ways we can become better 
leaders in our community. They taught us about leadership, finances, 
and that police are the good guys.

Most of the time was spent in a classroom. We learned many different things, from day-to-day training for officers, to identify situations with multiple problem solving skills we used and how to resolve conflicts within those situations. My co-workers were fun and easy going, but the management wasn't the greatest. Hardest part of the job were the long hours that we had to sometimes stay outside in the sun. Most enjoyable part were the hands on activities with co-workers.

As a SGT your day starts by arriving up to 3 hours early to prepare all vehicles for use with the officers that will be in your command for the day. Assign officers to vehicles, duties, and assignments. Log on all officers with communications. Once on duty, your job is to patrol your officer locations and make sure they are safe. Once the day has ended, make sure all officers arrive back safe, cars are fueled, and clean. Debrief all officers and log officers off duty with communications.

Some of the things you see are very difficult, but if you take care of yourself and seek assistance when needed this doesn't have to be a major problem.
Helping people through tough times and saving lives is extremely rewarding.

The culture with the other students was amazing and a great experience.

Management is helpful and fun. They are also open to questions.

Basically every party of the job is enjoyable from the community activities to the police presentations.

I learned a lot about the demands of being a police officer.

I would recommend to anyone that this was an amazing job and it gives you so many opportunities to put on future resumes and good workplace experience 

I took part in the Y.I.P program and it was an amazing experience. I enjoyed every second of the program. The people I met made an impact on my life. I would never take that summer back.

This job gave me the opportunity to grow as an individual while learning valuable skills that would change my career path. I met amazing people and together we accomplished tasks that were rewarding.

I learned many electrical skills along with painting skills and customer service. I always felt welcome no matter what job site I was on. Truly a great company to work for.

Total high energy from every one, I learned a lot about the police force + we got a full hour paid lunch.. can it get any better than that?
