E.B. Horsman & Son

EB Horsman and Son is a family owned business now in it's fifth generation. Since 1900 they have been serving the communities of British Columbia, and now Alberta and Saskatchewan. We are a full line electrical distributor supplying products to residential, commercial and industrial customers. We have a reputation of top tier service and we feel best about our business when both our customers, suppliers and ourselves, grow and prosper together.

I chose E.B. Horsman after much research into all the Electrical Distributors.  
The deciding factors were:
- the number of employees that had been with the company for over 20, 25, 30 years after 4 generations (back then) of  family ownership.
- best benefits package around
- family environment where management are open to communication.
- opportunity to grow and move around in the hierarchy and the Province (now 4 Provinces).
- Company was looking forward to growth and future stability through down turns.

If you work competently and reliably you will succeed and other positions open up for you. I have had the joy of being inside sales, technical support, outside sales, and a supervisor.

You are never expected to work outside company hours.
Input from all staff is encouraged and considered.
Ideas are often implemented.
An inclusive team environment is highly sought so that all employees are safe and comfortable working with one another.
Annual living raises are typical.
If you need help just ask as training for your position, future goals, and personal needs is available and encouraged.

I have never regretted my decision and have been here for 13 years now.  I'm looking forward to another 15+ until retirement and never want to to elsewhere.

I have been with E.B Horsman & Son for 3 years having moved from a large corporation. This has been my best employment experience and I will probably be here until I retire. 

The industry is fast paced and competitive where you have to act like a team to succeed. My role is very entrepreneurial and you are compensated for your success. The way the company is structured, everyone in the company is compensated based on the success of the organization, we all succeed together. The company is 120 years old and continues to grow and expand while others in the electrical industry are shrinking. 

The management team is young and dynamic putting policies in place for you to succeed. Because we are growing quickly, there is lots of room to move up and succeed in your career. 

If you are prepared to work hard this is a great organization who will treat you like family. There is lots of opportunity for long term success for anyone willing to commit!

Many employees have had decades of employment here - a recent retiree' has worked for the company nearly 50 years. Often new employees start out as a material handler and take the opportunity to learn the business & try other roles throughout the company. Others find long-term secure employment in a position they enjoy.  Of course, as they say, you have to make the grade to be included on the EB Horsman team.

EBH has an understanding that everyone is valued in whatever the job we do, focusing on providing the best customer service with the best products possible to be the electrical distributor of choice. The salary is competitive for the market place and more importantly, the company nurtures everyone's work and personal growth while providing for a fulfilling family life.

In my role, a typical workday involves a mix of project management, handling phone calls, and collaborative problem-solving. I’ve learned valuable skills in communication, task prioritization, and time management. Management is supportive and approachable, contributing to a positive and inclusive workplace culture. While managing tight deadlines and multiple priorities can be challenging, it also enhances my organizational skills. The most enjoyable aspect of the job is working with a talented team and witnessing the positive impact of our efforts on clients. Overall, the experience has been both professionally and personally rewarding.

In the warehouse expect to work hard and fast as inside sales and micro managing managers push for things to go put as fast as possible.  They say you will have help but really its every man for themselves.  The floor crew are good people. But to the company and management you are just a number.  Raises each year but the amount is pitiful.  Sub 1% . 
Counter staff and inside team help warehpuse minimally.   Push for training or certificates quickly or they will forget about getting them for you.  
Great place for some but lots of co workers and ex workers feel a toxic work environment especially at victoria branch.  

At work, my typical day consists of fulfilling assigned tasks and engaging with wonderful colleagues, leaving work at the office once I head home. I'm continually learning about database management and how strategically businesses use data. The management culture here is supportive, fostering creativity and appreciating good ideas while providing constructive feedback on improvements. The workplace is friendly, and everyone is invested in each other's success, which greatly enhances our collaborative efforts. The only drawback is the commute to the head office, which is a bit far, but this is a small price to pay for the overall positive experience.

During my 4-month co-op at E.B. Horsman, I experienced a supportive and friendly work environment in the AR department. The management was exceptional, often going out of their way to make me feel welcome, such as taking me out for lunch. Despite the challenges of managing accounts and ensuring accuracy, the collaborative and helpful nature of my colleagues made the experience rewarding. Their willingness to assist and support at every step made even the toughest tasks manageable. Overall, E.B. Horsman offers a positive and enriching work experience that I highly recommend.

At E.B. Horsman and Son, a typical day begins with a group meeting where my supervisor provides guidance and support throughout. The management is exceptionally understanding and patient, fostering a relaxing and friendly work environment. The workplace culture is welcoming, as my colleagues quickly embraced me despite being new to the country. The hardest part of the job is managing the physical demands, but the most enjoyable aspect is the supportive team and the positive atmosphere. Overall, it's a great place to work

E.B. Horsman is such a wonderful company to work with! They value their employees a lot. They have profit sharing, Matching RRSP's, Stocks, Health care, Life insurance, the list goes on. This has been one of the best companies I have ever worked for! You don't need electrical knowledge to apply, the customers have always been very understanding and coworkers in the Penticton branch are amazing. E.B. Horsman does a lot for the community, raises money for charity, donates to children's hospitals, cleans neighborhoods, etc. If you are thinking of applying you should, they have advancement opportunities as well as relocating branches in Canada.
