Grateful to no longer work here.

The work culture, in my experience, was awful. Every aspect of my employment felt micromanaged and overly monitored despite work experience, high competency and efficiency. It was demoralizing. 

Management offered little support for employee concerns, workload or booking issues.

You are basically a number, slotted in anywhere they need - if you don't comply or if you have any perceived negative constructive feedback, you are easily disposable and replaceable. You will be replaced with the next warm body. Simple.

Promotions did not appear to be based on qualifications/experience, rather - who you were friendly with or how well you complied. 

Found there was little to no flexibility for time off or any work life balance - regardless of reason. Specialist appts. attending funerals, etc. Very little in sick time benefits. Being granted requested vacation time was also a challenge. 

I found the concept of 'quantity over quality' did not align with my values. There was a definite feeling of profit above all else - Mental health, work-life balance, patient care to name a few. 

Overall, I found it to be a very restrictive and negative environment to work in. Much happier working elsewhere! 







Department hours were appropriate to a work/life balance. Worked closely with the team to inspire and teach. 
Had to make sure that deadlines were met with accuracy. 
I was able to learn a lot about health care billing and requirements.
Enjoyed having one on one time with my manager to refine my skills and then apply and share those skills with the rest of my team. 
The hardest part of the job was trying to be a productive biller as well as making sure that my administrative duties were also completed in a timely manner.
I enjoyed the relationships I had with other modalities within the organization. Other supervisors knew they could rely on my team to problem solve or help with information gathering. 
Billing is a small team and we were able to work well together.

Overall one of the better companies to work for in Calgary due to the radiologists working hand in hand with the ultrasound techs on the floor. It is so crucial to gain knowledge every day from your superiors in an ever changing field. It feels nice to know that physicians in the city trust our imaging over other companies. That being said, work morale is often low. Changes (may) come after a very long and drawn out process once employees voice concerns. Management does not seem to quite grasp that although we have many employee benefits, that it does not equate to money being made to live off of. Recent ‘inflation raise’ equates to around $50 extra biweekly after taxes.  Have been employ > 5 years but would take a position elsewhere if it made sense. Seniority does not matter at this company, and people who do good work are not recognized in a tangible way (ex. promotion, raise, bonus, etc)

What is the best part of working at the company?
Majority of radiologist are nice and they want to help sonographers learn. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Supervisors work as a spy and they pick and choose who to promote and who to give hard time based on likeness. You are late 2 minutes and they don't like you, they will report it however you can be late 15 mins with no issues if they like you. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful and you are just a number who makes them money. You will be replaced right away if you disagree about what they do even when you prove them wrong. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
working under pressure, high pressure.

Unfortunately this company is currently run and managed by people that only care about profits and not their employees. The morale is very low. Work is stressful and without support from management. They fire people without just cause, often because one of the management doesn't like them on a personal level. It honestly was the worst company I've ever worked for. I left and am much happier elsewhere.

One of the worst and stressful places I have worked at. If you don't go their ways, you will be singled out. Doing the job is not enough, you have to satisfy them (Don't know how, or what they want). When the pandemic started, they laid off most experienced staff and kept new ones just to save money. Didn't care about how committed those employees to the clinic, but just cared about saving some money from hiring new grads with low salary. 


I've worked for this company for almost 5 years. The radiologists all have an open door policy for the imaging team; they are approachable and all have a mentoring spirit. They are always willing to teach so that the company upholds the high quality standard they have created. I am constantly challenged and as a company they are raising the bar on expectations and are on the ground running with innovative exam techniques and technology.

Working as a sonographer at EFW has been a valuable learning experience. The patient volume is steady, which helps build efficiency and scanning confidence. The team is generally supportive, and there are opportunities to improve technical and workflow skills. Like any busy clinic, time management can be challenging, but overall it’s a solid workplace for gaining experience, especially for newer technologists.

The most enjoyable part of the job at EFW is the variety and chances to learn new skills and expand your professional experience and knowledge. My manager is very caring and listens to our concerns.

The job can be challenging and fast-paced at times, but also rewarding.
