ESC assigns teachers classes based randomly on departing teachers and availability, not based on experience or skill. The classes you are assigned, you teach forever until you're needed to teach something else. This means that you cycle endlessly through the weeks of curriculum, which benefits the students because the teacher is always prepared, but very poor for teacher development. There is good mentoring, teacher development workshops and class observations, but even your teacher mentor may not give you the feedback you need or you will get contradictory feedback from the director of studies and your mentor. Every negative feedback from the students is given to the teacher, which chips away at confidence. You are only given a few hours of paid prep time a week, when the reality is you have to spend at least 2-3 hours a day on prep. Other teachers do share material and are supportive. I was glad to leave this workplace-- it became undermining and monotonous.

You will get teaching experience here for sure but don’t expect that this can be your only job. The pay is low even for people who have worked there for a while and the students have the power. If they don’t like your class, you could be out of work. There is also not much in the way of appreciation or even courtesy for employees. We have been working in a construction zone for 8 months and nothing has been done to appreciate employees who put up with this. You only get threatened about potentially losing your job if you want to teach online. If you are desperate it’s a job, but if you have other teaching options, take them 

This review is as at December 2017. ESC was a great place to work mainly because of the great staff, both administration and professional.The facilities are not great, but it doesn't  seem to matter to staff and students. The pay is better that most other schools except unionized  schools which pay almost 50% more.The location, at Yonge and St. Clair, is great  because you aren't affected by the downtown rush and morning hours traffic crush.

I worked 40 hours weekly and received free lunches and dinners. A typical day included watching the students and accompanying them to field trips, while helping them improve their English language skills.

ESC is a great company to work for. It’s a fairly small school and a lot of people have been working there for many years. People are always thanking you for your help, recognizing your work. 
Teachers are nicer there than at other schools I’ve worked at. It’s a fun work environment! 

A usual day started with teachers meeting and going to the classes to meet the students who are coming from many countries around the world. The next half is an activity that is outside such as a trip to CN tower or another site.

I learned how to manage large groups of children and hold responsibility over a multitude of areas.
I did enjoy the trips we came on

-a typical day consists of teaching grammar, pronunciation, and reading
-I learned how to teach a class
-the most enjoyable part of the job was the curriculum, staff, and students
-the hardest part of the job is having to teach a number of classes

Working here was great and very interesting. A lot of fun with students at work, great management and team. The most enjoyable part of the job is leading groups of students and help them to explore the Canada.

It was the most enjoyable job that I had been done.The environment was intense and everyone there was nice. Everyone was encourging you to move forward and they helped you to ovecome any difficulties.
