Eastholme Home for the Aged

work environment is stressful but very rewarding. 
typical day at work for day shift start at 6 am 
working with 3 psw if lucky, first goal of the day is getting 30 residents up and ready for breakfast at 8 am. help feed them after first meal, help put some residents back to bed for a nap, help residents with toileting.  move on to bath list. could have up to 8 baths a day. after baths its almost time for lunch, get everyone up and out of bed. help feed lunch. after lunch is over help toilet residents before putting every to bed for afternoon nap. after all care has been met with every resident. document and report on each resident in the computer. 
hardest part about the job is you rarely have time to spend with residents. very easy to fall behind on your work but at the end of the day its nice to know you made a difference in someone's life.   

I worked here for many years, I left on a very positive note. I came back several years later to a completely different facility. The old DOC was incredible. She would help dietary serve meals, make beds to help nursing staff. It’s really a different atmosphere. The staff are always short, the staff turnover rate is so high. No  one gets properly trained since they get pulled from orientation early because they’re short. They will allocate shifts to your schedule. When you can’t work them they tell you you should have told them prior. The administrator has told staff that eastholme is their only priority. I personally missed a birthday because of allocated shifts. They’re a no staff to switch shifts and if you do you get denied. There’s no winning. I really feel bad for the staff. They’re all wonderful and deserve better.

If your looking for advancements, don't bother. You will be terminated before your 3 months are up. Short staffed, toxic DOC and management and will let bullies torment you. Some staff was absolutely amazing while others are there to get a paycheck and not care about residents. They will deny all request for days off, while others get time off all the time. You need to be a favorite. Long hours and understaffed  if you get hired and you get terminated for zero reason Union will not help.  Staff turnover very high.

I’ve been at this job for around 4 months and I’m already so ready to leave. I’m only working for a pay check right now. I was never fully trained. I was pulled from one unit to another a lot. I tried to explain I needed training and the DOC told me “care is care”. So I tried to rely on my coworkers but they pretty much told me this is how it is. When I expressed I was looking for other work the other PSWs told me no one stays so they don’t even bother learning peoples names anymore. 

The support staff are a hardworking and resident focused group who are very good at what job they are doing. The unfortunate part is the management team and their process of encouraging a hostile work environment. They thrive on controversy amongst the staff to the point that they create it. The management team created an extremely toxic environment .

Beautiful home, great staff, and home is ran really well.  I’ve always felt like a team. Management is always open to suggestions.
It really is the best place to work, rewarding and you leave feeling like you really helped someone and made a difference in someone’s life.
It’s hard work and fast pace.


Working here was great for the most part. The shifts were busy and fast paced, but you get used to the routine very quickly. The dietary coworkers here are awesome! Although gossip is always a thing at any workplace. If you can take criticism well and enjoy a fast-paced workday, then this is a great place to work.

I worked here for around nine years. I’ve seen too much to stay. I’ve seen staff terminated over Facebook posts. It’s just not a good morale. I tried to be vocal about not switching units during the pandemic but we were short so I had no other choice. 

Would recommend to those who are looking to work in a LTC and like to work as a team! Great benefits and pension plan. Very fast paced but a great place overall to work.

I have only been at Eastholme for a few months but I am already very impressed by what I see. I have worked in other long term care homes and none compare to the cleanliness of the building and the fantastic group of staff.  I have had nothing but positive experiences so far.
