After report you go to your designated area..unit, clinic or admissions.
There is always a lot of work to do.  Preparing files for clinics or outside appointments.  Booking of appointments, dental, doctor,  psychology or LAB.
Units always have a lot of filing to do.  Files need to be .kept up to date.  Files for discharges or transfers need to be prepared. 
Files for the various clinics need to be sent to them.
I enjoyed my job there keeping on top of things and organising my time to do the best I could to assist where needed.
The hardest part of my job was when the Prison Officers went on strike and we were not able to enter the building to do our jobs.
The staff work well together and it felt like a family.

- Typical day at work is exercising the care, custody of control of inmates. Controlling day to day activities of inmates, providing meals, medication, safety checks, healthcare checks, transporting inmates in building or external escorts. Responding to emergency codes is a normal function of the job.
-I have learned a lot about conflict management, communication, how to collaborate between other agencies and selfcare. 
- the culture is very money oriented, people work a lot here and sometimes forget to take care of themselves
- hardest part of the job is dealing with upper management
- enjoyable things are the people you work with! Benefits and vacation time are amazing as well.

No meaningful background checks means you will be working with people who are addicted to everything from steroids to cocaine. They are all union protected and HR is afraid to tackle any issues so you are stuck with them. Managers will play blatant favorites, and the government is constantly freezing salaries despite cost of living going up. It can be dangerous like most prisons, so you have to expect that. Its not all bad though. At least its secure, the benefits are decent and you can make a good income if you are willing to do the OT and look after yourself.  Best used as a stepping stone to something else as it gets repetitive and will kill you mentally after a while.

Everyday can be different at the ERC, I have been working as a response team member. I always have to be ready to go into difficult and dangerous unknown situations. I have learned to read inmates and Officers when it comes to stressful and chaotic situations. The hardest part of the job is the waiting and expecting the unexpected. The most enjoyable of my job is working as a team, and depending on  my co workers when it comes to situations we have to run in to and deal with.

Poor management, poor communication. I was treated better by the inmates than by my own colleagues. No one takes responsibility for their actions. Unprofessional, supervisors trash you behind your back to your colleagues.  Management neglects to respond to your questions and concerns. This has been the most unprofessional place I have ever worked. there is obvious favoritism. Certain people can show up 30 minutes late for their shift and not get their paychecks docked.

Like any other Government job there are positives and negatives. The benefits are good, hours and shift rotation are a benefit, and there is lots of opportunity to make extra money with overtime. Advancement is difficult as there is only one way to move, and that is up.
Is a very negative environment as you are dealing with remanded people and this does not create an environment with positive interactions.

This Job is Not for Everyone, best suggestion is to get some life experiences before getting into Corrections. 
You ensure the care, custody and control of inmates. You supervise inmates, monitor behavior and movement, conduct patrols and maintain log books and reports.

Overall not a bad place to work

-It's a very different environment then i am used to. patients are not our average hospital patients 
-Can't believe anything they say
-You just have to find your own way to deal with the day to day stuff that happens
-most of my colleagues are amazing to work with

If youre a white guy who plays hockey and chews tobacoo and is a closet racist. As in the remand center is your closet.  Then apply!

If your in the other category like me. Well you got no chance with the boys club culture here.  The people think theyre in the 50s.

Absolutely brutal how poor managers treat the staff here - unless you are friends with them!
