This was only a 2-day job, the first day was just setting up tech at the election location. The second day was a 14-hour shift. I had to get there at 8 am, set up any additional posters/tech and test the tech to see if it was working. My job was to give ballots to voters and correct/add any information in the electronic voter list system. This was a great job to gain experience in customer service, even if that was only for 1 day. It gave me a sense of how to work with coworkers and how a permanent job workplace could look like. Just like any other customer service job, for example, retail, I had to deal with people who could not speak English properly, disabled people, people with short tempers etc. It was very enjoyable working with my coworkers, my supervisor was great as well. They all knew what they were doing and if I had any problems all I had to do was go to my supervisor. Overall this was an enjoyable job, good starter experience, the only bad thing someone might think about this is dealing with undesirable people.

Again, this was only a 2-day job, with one of those days just being a setup, but it was a great experience nonetheless.

It was a brief -  training day and election day - the job was running a poling station with one other person and a supervisor who checked in on us.  I learned new job duties such as: accepting voting cards and verifying voters' identity, finding their names on the voter list and confirming their vote, collecting all votes in a confidential voters' ballot box, counting all of the votes at the end of the day & confirming it matched the number of ballots I gave out.  Tabulating all votes in appropriate categories, recording and counting the votes, calling in the vote count to head office, and returning the votes & ballot box to head office.  Set up and take down were done at the beginning and end of the day. My co-worker was helpful doing her share of the job. My supervisor was friendly, and encouraging - he confirmed that we were doing everything right. The hardest part of the job was the lull times when few or no voters were coming in - I like to keep busy.  The most enjoyable part of the job was meeting the voters.  There are so many different people, and I enjoy working with the public.

I have come to believe that everyone 18 years old and up should be recruited to work an election, almost like Jury Duty. In this way our young adults,  understand the importance of what it means to vote for their future and freedoms. It is such an AMAZING experience prepping the ballots, counting them and everything in between. Meeting and seeing people from your community or around. Being involved. End of night can seem exhausting and overwhelming but as a team, there is always people around to help out. I have worked the last 3 elections. First as poll clerk and now DRO and although the day can seem long, the people, the teams, the staff, the locations, the energy gets you through it. Such an honour to be part of the process.

Poll official my duties were to verify voters name and cross it off the voters list and hand voters folded ballet. Directed voters to voting screen to mark their candidate of their choice. Receive marked refolded ballet and check the back of the ballet and verify return ballet to voter to drop into ballet box

Collected Notice of registration card, checked voter ID from voters and confirm that their information was current and accurate and update elections Ontario voters list. Issued voters ballet to copmplete voting process

Responsible for accurately counting all ballets at the end of Elections and report voters count to DRO .to report on final count for official result

Administered elections Ontario oath by following strict Guidelines For Use of Information Obtained from the Permanent Register of Electors

Assist in collecting all documents and equiptment and close pole

I was a SDRO (Supervising Deputy Returning Officer) contracted for standby during the 2018 election. I've done this before and it's a great short term position that typically pays very good money. This election was the exception.

I was on standby and was not called in. I was paid the minimum 3 hours at $22.88/h. However, I was required to attend training in the next city plus drive 32km round trip for the 6 hour session. Elections Ontario has always paid supervisors mileage. Total payment was $54.60 or $9.10/h, almost $5/h below minimum wage.

This is outrageous considering the government sets the province's minimum wage. Since when do they think they are exempt?

Overall a good job but this government employer is CHEAP and operating above their own laws!

A typical day at work involved following clear instructions, assisting voters, and working as part of a team to keep things organized and efficient. I learned how to communicate clearly, follow procedures, and work under pressure during busy times. Management was professional and supportive, and training was provided before starting. The workplace culture was respectful and teamwork-focused. The hardest part of the job was standing for long hours and handling busy periods. The most enjoyable part was helping the public and working with friendly coworkers.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Friendly atmosphere, make sure to bring snacks and beverages for the 8am- 10:30ish pm shift on Election Day. 
Training day is about 45mins long prior to Election Day. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Counting the votes properly at the end of the night. Writing down all the information properly and assigning the votes into the proper envelopes. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Busy at different times of the day, yet slow at other times of the day. Make sure not to wear any colours of clothing that the political parties are associated with.

I have worked in the last two provincial elections, and on both occasions I was greeted with such a friendly work environment. Most of the staff employed by Elections Ontario have a great work ethic and are very familiar with their duties. If a doubt were to arise, one can confidently ask their fellow staff who are more than happy to clear up the matter. I learned a lot about the technical side of elections and polls and the importance of workers at the polling stations during that day. The hardest part of the job was dealing with voters who would display aggressive behavior, but of course we must be more than understanding and willing to help that voters at all times. In conclusion Elections Ontario is a great work environment to be a part of!

A typical day at the office would include making inbound and outbound calls for an election company to help and make the clients voting experience as easy as possible. Working with this company has helped me a lot when it came down to utilizing my communication skills and customer service abilities. I learned how to deal with difficult situations and multi-tempered customers in an efficient manner and, as well as, making important decisions on the spot. Overall, my experience at Elections Ontario was amazing, the management, as well as, the employees made it very welcoming for me. I really did enjoy working there, it was honestly a great experience for me and has taught me a lot about the work field and myself.

Fun and caring environment polite staffing  I would refer any one to the elections Ontario as it will help you with extra money in your pocket as well as help you with experience for your resume and any future jobs as it is a government job, the elections Ontario is also a good job to help people get out into the community and help them get over there fears no matter if it is a fear of people a fear of crowds etc. The best part of the job is getting to help with the community and help the people in the community that are he legal age to vote with voting for the person that they want to vote for. Working for this company is a great way to get yourself out there and to build up your resume so you people can get a good job in the near future
