Worked afternoon shift had to wait for other customer service girl to leave in order to have a desk.  If I was lucky I might get an update on any problems, most days I was never inform.  Start answering emails and phone and enter any orders that was left over from day shift.  Start working on customs so paperwork could be sent to broker and be cleared.  All emails had to be answer in a timely matter no longer than 15 minutes.  
If was nice to learn all about Customs going into the Sates, the different codes and products and what products had to cross at certain borders.
Office staff was great funny to work with.
Working in a small room with 9 people talking all at once, drivers coming in all the time with the phone ringing and keeping up with emails and orders.
Once every one left for the day and it was only the Driver Manager and myself, nice and quite and more time to think without having to yell over everyone.

This company has a habit of underpaying for your waiting time. If you speak up, you quickly end up on a “slow” list—meaning you get no work but are told it’s just a matter of timing. On top of that, they dock you roughly 100 miles of mileage pay each week, insisting they calculate distance via GPS but refusing to share the actual routes they use. You’re expected to call in every few hours each day to see if there’s work, yet they never bother to notify you when you’re scheduled—resulting in countless wasted days. Overall, they treat drivers like interchangeable parts and show almost no respect for your personal or family life.
Pay starts at .48 per mile and stops at .52 per mile and hourly is $21-$23.

I have only been there  for 3 months I am very happy to be part of the team. Dispatch has always tried to help when I needed answersfor loads the try to work with you to get you home and never asked me to extend my hours.Hours and sleep are all over the place but thats trucking .I feel like part of the family.Other drivers have  know problem lending a hand or passing out hints from there experience if you are looking for a 9 to 5 job this is not it.Pay is good and so are benefits. They also have sign in bonusesand apprenitship programs. Better than my other job. If you love to drive make money and be part of a team this is wher you want to be

No shortage of work to destinations across the Midwestern United States , learned a lot about time management and  driver safety. Relationships with management was good and my dispatch was great. Morale was good among drivers and mechanical staff.The hardest part of the job was the waiting at shippers and eventually balancing my time with my infant son and wife. I enjoyed the travel and challenge of driving in all conditions to places I wouldn't otherwise go. I liked being a Trucker!

Dedicated truck,On your own mostly.

Other Drivers,Leaving damaged,Dirty equipment. Parking in front of exits,Blocling truck daily.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
A push in comments and action,while not addressing safety issues properly.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hurry up and wait and then,Driver waiting in yard for your load.

Training, advising, encouraging and building new and experienced drivers daily. Customs clearances both into the United States and back into Canada. Fixing daily issues or problems that come up. I work with about 8 people in a very small environment and we get along well with helping each other.  I enjoy the training in my job. I get satisfaction from seeing someone learn and advance themselves.

It was a good place to work. Never had an issue with management and never got pushed to fudge my logs, New equipment that was well maintained, Like any other jobs, you have to do the lousy runs before you get a nice dedicated one

Elgin Motor Freight is a great place to work. The wages are ok I only wish the pay was a bit better. The equipment is top notch and maintenance is also top notch. Disbatch is outstanding, very helpful. My co-workers are second to none they are always willing to help. Upper management are easy to talk to.

I was a regional driver, usually out 3 days home for 1or 2. They keep their equipment in great shape and followed the MTO/DOT rules very strictly as they should. Way too much micro managing for my taste

The trucks are mostly well maintained. The dispatchers are pretty good. Benefits used to be decent but are now minimal through sun life. 

Most drivers don’t stay long because the pay, especially hourly, is pitiful.  Lots of drivers sitting at home not getting runs.
