What is the best part of working at the company?
Overall, I had a positive experience with the company. However, I found the management within my department to be very disappointing. I was consistently excluded from meetings that directly impacted my work, which made it difficult to stay aligned and contribute fully. Unfortunately, the department manager demonstrated a lack of communication and inclusivity, which significantly affected my experience and growth. It was one of the most challenging management styles I’ve encountered.



What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The manager often set unrealistic expectations, which seemed more focused on proving personal capability rather than supporting the team’s collective success. Unfortunately, this approach created unnecessary pressure and did not foster a collaborative or supportive environment. It felt as though team development and well-being were not a priority.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The overall company culture appeared strong, but unfortunately, this was not reflected within my immediate team. The team dynamics were poorly represented and did not align with my personal values of integrity, growth, and mutual trust. I believe in being part of an environment that genuinely fosters development and open communication, which I did not consistently experience in my role

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
There was a strong emphasis on quantity over quality, which often compromised the standard of work and long-term effectiveness. This approach made it difficult to prioritize thoughtful, high-impact contributions.

Employees are hired with deceptive means as actual scope and work are hidden from candidates and prospective employees. Workload is heavy with people taking on 2 or more roles at a time. No work life balance. Company expects you to surpass expectations juggling workload for 3 or more persons with ridiculous performance metrics. By the way, performance measures are hidden from you until you are hired. These expectations are high as in akin to passing the Bar exam for law. Lack of resources for employees to do their job. Great resignation now taking place where employees are leaving the company in droves. For heavy workload, one is underpaid as well. Lack of pay equity to factor in. While too heavy management retain their huge salaries.  Insufficient training that is not thorough. For an insurance company, health benefits are comparatively low compared to market and competition. Only Dental benefits are high. Pension low as well.  The values that company espouse are sorely lacking i.e. professional development, diversity, innovation and integrity. If they ignore their own employees needs, how can they attend to their clients? Advancement opportunities are not there, will be pigeonholed into roles.

On a typical day I would arrive at work just before 8am and greet everyone in the area. Three days out of the week the team had "huddles" to discuss weekly events, news, or issues. My co-workers were excellent. They all were extremely knowledgeable about their work, and were very patient and understanding when I was learning the processes. The hardest part of the job is dealing with costumers in distress. As a health insurance company, most customers with whom one is dealing with are not happy to be calling the insurance company, perhaps due to sickness or a loved ones death. It was hard to follow procedure and not become too sympathetic with the costumer to the point where you can't do your job. On the other hard, the most rewarding part of the job is helping people during these difficult times, and making the experience a good one for the customer.

A typical day for someone in my role involved processing cheques for payment and updating client addresses and advisor information. The biggest thing that I learned was just becoming accustomed the office lifestyle and being on time, working hard, completing what is asked of you in a thorough and productive manner. The hardest part was the repetitiveness of daily work, not much excitement.

Empire is not focused on its employees, only how to make the most money from its operation. 

The floors are filled with people who've been there for years with no intent of leaving.

I struggled to advance in this company as my unit bottlenecked up to one supervisor and a manager for 25 staff.

They seemed reluctant to hire internally and often have postings up for over 6 months.

Empire Life was a wonderful working environment, The management team and training staff were well versed on their jobs as well as the jobs of those they were managing. Everyone was friendly and helpful. 

I strongly recommend it if you are just starting out and looking for a good place to grow both intellectually and as a person.

Productive and work fun place. Work life balance was important everyone in the company. Workplace culture was good and every was friendly. Month ends where always busy with financial reporting and tax compliance and everyone worked as a team to get the work done.

As someone said previously, they need you to perform a lot while doing multiple roles. They use outdated tools and the moment something is wrong and you need an unplanned day off they drop the nice smile attitudes and treat you like trash.

Young company with no training program for new employees, understaffed and not forward thinking in management of claims.  Focus is more on bringing company into 21st century

Supportive, knowledgeable and understanding. Positive work environment with the ability to speak directly to senior management. The entire company is engaged and supportive of all departments.
