Engineers Without Borders

I've worked with the EWB chapter of UOIT in Oshawa since september 2013. We're an organization whose goal is to causes systemic, sustainable change in developing countries, specifically in Africa. While this is a volunteering venture for me, I am one of the project managers and am constantly learning how to effectively manage events and team members. EWB is a great opportunity to learn soft business skills as well as useful management skills while benefiting the less fortunate.

I was a volunteer.
 • Sold samosas at weekly sales, averaging 100 sales over 3 hours
• Raised money to send a student on a fellowship opportunity in Africa
• Discussed engineering solutions to social problems, such as the problems in the global food supply chain, solutions being local markets, vegetarianism, and GMO

Everyone is EWB (Engineers Without Borders) feels passionately about making a real difference in making the world a better place by working towards sustainability. The best part about working with EWB is the feeling of making a real impact in the lives of many.

EWB's is a well run company with opportunities for those interested in an honest day's work. Management is focused on the long-term success of the company which allows employees to concentrate on their work. The structured environment ensures a consistent service is provided to customers.

Was a good experience, just not something I wanted to pursue. It was a good experience of working with an NGO. Could use more organization but understandable given the nature of the work. 

A station with free coffee and tea were given out on a certain day of the week. When people approached the station, they were asked if they knew about fair trade. If so, then we told them what our objectives were.

I very much enjoyed my time with Engineers Without Borders. I am no longer a member of the organization because the required commitment was too much for me.

In this program, there are various events and conferences that enable one to learn more about engineering around the world and its benefits and impacts for third world countries.

This is a great place to work, many different people work here and the people are nice. 100% nice. Would never recommend worse, amazing people. Absolutely amazing people

It is a fun environment to be around and meeting new people who carries the same ideology. The ideology is to help the ones in-need in third world countries.
