Really good work culture, with a very collegial and casual atmosphere.  Executive management was predominantly old school and very hierarchical.  Advancement opportunities were available but you had to be willing to move abroad to get them.  Projects were poorly managed and overall company had a great deal of miscommunication with the parent in Norway.  Norwegians see things through a very rose-colored Norwegian view of the world, the so-called "Viking Will".  International business units have an extreme disconnect with Norway making corporate expectations unrealistic and unworldly.

Maintained and operated Steam/Utilities unit.

Troubleshot Steam Generator/s, Booster & Charge pumps & Glycol Heater outages & general steam unit deficiencies.

Prepared & installed lock outs (LOTO’s) on various equipment.

Daily round sheets & samples.

Co-workers were knowledgeable, skilled, helpful and friendly.

Management and supervisors have good working relationships with operators and maintain an open door policy.

Hardest part of the job was being away from home for a week at a time.

Most enjoyable part of the job was the feeling of accomplishment from returning the steam unit to regular full function after various setbacks.

Typical days went through with very high level of professionalism and respectful discussions on projects activities. There were plenty of opportunities to learn and interact with people within the organization with lots of experiences. Project management was practiced on an everyday basis.

Perhaps company's vision of the future may have been shared with employees in a clearer way and some decisions made may have been different.

Anyway, it's a great company.

The benefits and incentives are good but what makes people spend years at Statoil is really the people.  I was fortunate to have great management my entire time there. The workplace culture is relaxed and a work/life balance is appreciated. Your workload is yours to manage yourself; you are not micro-managed. 

The most challenging part of the job is the fact that the head office is international and sometimes the decisions taken for the local offices are tone deaf due to the distance.

Statoil is a great company to work for.  Unfortunately due to the current economy status Statoil will be letting people go.  Statoil has given me an opportunity to expand my knowledge in the Finance Department where I have excelled in positions involving Accounts Payable, Treasury, SAP Training, and Requisitioning.

Great place to work in collaborative atmosphere where opportunities to learn, travel, and advance are present. You feel like you are working for a responsible energy company.

Statoil Canada Ltd. in Conklin Alberta is a SAGD plant.
Shifts are 12 hours long starting at 6am or 6 pm; 7 days in 7 days out.
Its a good place to learn as they have a very good training program. Management and co-workers are very friendly and helpful.
They have a state of the art camp, excellent pay and benefits.

A matrix organization that valued work/life balance. Excellent colleagues and still remain in contact with many. Customized SAP system and just implemented a internet based interface to extract financial reports more efficiently.

Good company to work for. They must realize that working outside of Norway is not the same as working within the country and the must adapt to the local culture both within Canada and the USA.
