Being a courier with Era Banner is alright if you don't mind working outdoors in any kind of weather. Some days you have more flyers than hours and you'll most likely be delivering papers on a Thursday, or on a Weekend. You also have the option to deliver both Thursday and on Weekends. The more money you want to make the more houses you deliver to, so if you want to make about $400 a month be prepared to do a lot of walking in your neighborhood.  What I learned is that it is easier to deliver papers with a partner, it goes by quicker and you can hit more houses in a single run and wont have to make very many trips. The hardest part of the job is when you first start putting together the papers; my first day I was up all night because I didn't have any specific way of doing it, but once my father showed me a way of doing things it was much easier to put the papers together and the time went a bit quicker. When I was a courier the most enjoyable part of my job was delivering on the weekends because there wasn't so many flyers to bundle together and put in the papers so it made delivering to the houses a bit easier. This job is perfect for students and seniors because it is a chance to get a few hours of exercise.

Delivery was twice weekly.  Much work was needed to insert flyers for the Thursday paper.  The man who delivered the papers, flyers, plastic bags, elastics was always on time, always nice even though he worked a full-time day job with the paper.  Hardest part of the job was the weather -- rain, snow, humidity. I did 2 routes so the volume required multiple returns to home-base to pick up more papers.  If you have ever received a"'50 lb." Thursday paper packed with flyers you will appreciate the effort that went into this. The most enjoyable part of the job was getting out for a good walk. I like to walk, to High school, to work, to deliver the papers, with my dog, Teddy. It also gave me a chance to learn about money.  Most of my newspaper money I spent on lunches at Sobeys or Subway. My parents allowed me to spend MY money as I wanted.  Once I realized after a year of doing this that I had NOTHING to show for my hard work I smartened up when I started to work at Dominion Produce.  I am proud that I have saved most of my pay after paying Room and Board and am well on my way to saving for a future vehicle, Home and retirement. I would like to work at the LCBO with an eye on future full-time work there.

I learned perseverance through this job, it is hard work and as a kid with Patellofemoral syndrome ("runner's knee", but mine is not as easily treated because it was cause from my bones growing too fast), I often had trouble. Putting the papers together, bundling, bagging and putting them into a cart without help from friends/family could take up to 4 hours. Then, I delivered to 2 routes. On Thursdays, I wouldn't have the luxury of my friends being able to help and my parents wouldn't be home in time to help. Because I was 12 or 13 at the time, I wasn't very strong AND had my condition. In the winter, I would often have to tie my 2 dogs leashes to the cart to help me pull the first, second and third trips I had to take. Luckily, my mom is in the legal system and knew I was chronically underpaid, as it functions as a retail job, on commission (per paper). The difference is that retail workers always have a minimum salary, but I did not. This is a job for extra money if you have a lot of extra time and people to help you out. It is also a good job for children or teenagers to learn the value of money, as they are earning it themselves.

We had bundles of newspapers and various advertisements delivered to our address and our job was to assemble and bundle them together and deliver the packaged newspapers to every address on an assigned street.

I learned about responsibility and hard work during my short employment.

The hardest part of the job was bringing the large weight of newspapers around on my delivery route. At the time of my employment, I was rather young and not physically fit, so it was difficult to deliver the newspapers despite only being assigned a small street.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Finding friends. Meeting neighbors in my subdivision. Talking to neighbors. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Weather and having alot of Flyers to insert. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I had to do most work by my self. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Wait for papers to be delivered. Take papers in. Insertion flyers. Organize paper. Put in Cart. Then deliver news papers. Don't deliver if that House doesn't want paper.

I would deliver papers on set days throughout the week, and I was paid based upon the weight of the papers I was delivering. Meaning in months such as December coming up to Christmas I would make more money due to the papers often tripling in size. I worked on my own, and had little interaction with management or other people. 

I enjoyed the physical activity, but there sure were days where I wish I could've not gone out in -40 weather with a windchill!

making and packaging flyers and newspapers and delivering papers up and down my route

I had a paper route for the era banner where my responsibilities were to receive shipments of papers and flyers, assemble each paper with the correct flyers then bag and deliver them to the street. It did not pay much but I was young and it did not take much time so it was a decent income source for someone who did not meet most requirements for other employment.

I say this with peace and love, I worked too hard for only $10 per week. You have to package everything and deliver it all on your own. Would not recommend, however if u genuinely need something slow paced and easy then sure go for it but remember the pay is bad!

it was a really easy job when it came to folding and delivering the newspapers. I was only scheduled for Thursdays so it never invaded with my personal plans but I'm currently looking for a job that can pay me minimum wage and I'm willing to work for more hours for the work experience in the future.
