Working as a millwright at Essar Steel is a challenging and demanding position which requires extensive problem solving, troubleshooting and new innovative ideas to repair equipment that is vital to the operation. Repairs must be completed in the most cost effective and efficient manner. Severe budget cuts and cost control programs have depleted the inventory of spare parts and consumable items such as valves, fittings, piping, bolts that once made repairs to equipment somewhat routine. Something as simple as changing a damaged hydraulic hose could now require re-routing components or changing the style of fittings to make repairs. The upside to operating in this type of culture is being forced to think quickly on your feet and find new ways to overcome adversity. The most enjoyable part of my job is interacting with people, such as coworkers, supervisors, production employees to find out their problems with the equipment  and having the satisfaction of repairing the equipment and knowing that not only did I contribute to repair the problems, I made a difference by helping the operator/process.

Active day with personal contact with many people in person and on the phone, organizing shippments of parts and repiar of equipement throughout the different mills within the steel plant. Also had regular contact with outside suppliers to our department. Company work conditions were good and the atmosphere for the most part was excellent. I appreciated the tilme I had there and made many good freinds.

work in our department was rewarding because we identified potential industrial hygiene problem with workers and management and determined the best way to resolve the problem. in some cases, we were required to conduct sampling and determine if workers were in excess of legislated guidelines.

Over seeing health and safety related issues with Essars supervisory group, incident investigations, early safe return to work of employees, monthly work places inspections, monthly, quarterly and yearly corporate health and safety meeting. Interacted with labor union with regards safety related issues. Overall very busy interactive job

A good place to work Independently and with a great team .Learnt about different construction procedures and policies ,health and safety ,environmental and working with the USW union. 
The hardest part of the job was to complete the project on time in rough weather .

It was a great place to work and gave good experience. it was a good paying job for a summer student. The day was that you worked 7 am till 3pm and you would look for plates and sort them out and when a truck came in you would hook to a crane and put it on a truck

Overall very dirty environment to work in. Management unorganized. Very hard to get parts to do repairs. Always patching broken equipment. Co-workers easy to get along with but still very cliquey. 
Wages very competitive.

Safety was always top priority as we worked on large machinery and piping. Threr was always some ongoing training and instruction to maintain and upgrade our skill levels.

I came during a profit sharing period giving me under union rules extra every paycheck. The work was consistent and dull but never too hard, a need to be perfect, since the error correction methods in place were pain full made it a bit stressful
