Eurocan Pulp & Paper Co

Eurocan was well managed. The work force was highly skilled and the people were motivated to work safely. I was employed there for almost 36 years and never thought of working anywhere else. I was advanced through a progression line system while in the hourly work force. I then went staff in 1997 and quickly advanced from a shift supervisor to a chief power engineer in 9 short years. Unfortunately the market for Kraft paper became weaker and weaker and the owner company had to make a business decision in order to stem financial loss.

I worked for Eurocan Pulp and Paper for just over 23 years before the mill closed for good. Eurocan was also an excellent place to work. I learned most of my skills there. I worked for and with some great staff and crews. I also enjoyed working with managment on mill wide safety. This included working as 1 of 2 union reps with the contractor staff during mill outages. I was also the head safety rep for Local 1127. All of the safety postions I worked on were voluntary and or elected positions. I learned lots from the Eurocan staff. I was looking forward to applying for staff positions but the mill closed. I always liked going to work, knowing the people I worked with.

If the mill was still running ,I would still be there.A fine group of people.The management group went above and beyond to support front line supervisors right up to managers.
Based on long years of service salaries were varied over the years.

biggest and most safest and fun place I worked at, learned the most about industrial and personal safety there, made awesome lifelong friends, worked with great management and co-workers, lots of laughs and tears, just awesome

Started training as supervisor in a union environment. the training was very good and professional. to bad they closed down. would have loved to stay there.
