Extreme Pita

Extreme Pita was my first paid job. I have handled food, customers and cash while working at the Winona Peach Festival, so I had some experience going into this job. During a normal 4-5 hour shift, we would serve no more than about 6 customers. Although it was slow, there was always something to do. Whether it be prepping food items for the next day, counting inventory or fulfilling a customer's order, working at Extreme Pita was enjoyable. During training we were exposed to a fun, creative environment. Our trainer was excellent at providing clear, useful information, including: safety, preparing the stations to maintain an organized, sanitary work environment as well as tips and tricks to making the customer's experience an enjoyable one. There would be no more than 2 employees working during a shift, all whom were friendly and helpful. I excelled in excellent customer service and time management. I enjoyed being able to create unique pitas and serving them with a smile. I struggled in the short time I worked there to memorize some recipes. Overall, Extreme Pita was an enjoyable job to have.

After two dedicated years of working at Extreme Pita, I resigned from my position because I moved to Guelph for school. From working at Extreme Pita I was able to develop foundational work ethics that I had already began developing during years of accademic work. Although working at Extreme Pita was a demanding job (prep, serve, clean, etc.), the skills I have, allowed me to succeed in the fast pace environment. However not all times were busy, these times taught me how to properly prioritize important duties in order to ensure customer satisfaction was the main concern. Overall, the management and staff I had the opportunity to work with influenced the positive environment and attitude reflected in the work place. I think establishing good bonds with co-workers and higher positions is important because it allows for an enjoyable, comfortable and smooth  shift guaranteed.

A typical day of work would be, food prep for the day if you are working morning / some food prep at night and smoothies. Making pita's and smoothies for customers and cashing them out. Lots of dish washing, and then the usual closing routine. I became Supervisor after just a year, which made things enjoyable for a bit. Throughout my 3 years working there, I went through 3 different owners; since it is a franchise. We went from having 2-3 employees on shift at all times to 1-2, which made things boring; especially since I worked the entire Sunday alone. Hardest part of the job was the rush to finish the closing alone when customers would come in late at night; sometimes extending closing time by over 45 minutes. I met a lot of great friends through this job and overall found it to be a great experience.

Owned by a small Indian family who work in the store, you are likely not going to get very many hours as they cover as many as they can to save money on wages. The boss, even after two years of asking for one, refuses to make a weekly schedule, so most shifts he will text you about the night before. This really interferes with any plans outside of work, which he doesn't care about. Paydays are biweekly, pay is given in cheques which he usually doesn't have ready for you until the day after payday, so if you are on a budget, don't work for him. He is highly unorganized and rude to his employees, he will make sure he gets a break or an hour off before you get a break. You work alone a lot and are never praised or acknowledged for the work you do. The job itself is fantastic, the management at the store is the problem.

I have been at extreme pita for almost 4 years now, and i have enjoyed my time here. The management is super friendly and schedules are very flexible. the hardest part of the job is just being able to have many things on the go at once and multitasking. The customers are mainly all nice, and I enjoy talking and being open with my customers, making sure they leave with a smile every time. The only complaint I have, is because I have been here so long and I've been a loyal employee, I have asked for a raise and asked to possibly be promoted to supervisor but been denied. I feel I know a lot about this place but you can only grow so far here.

Working at this facility will feel no different than doing house chores. You come to care for the food and environment just as you would your own home. And the employees you work alongside will make you feel just as comfortable themselves. Management was stable and well controlled, and the workplace culture is very warm but fast-paced. The hardest part of the job would be perhaps the average busy day during lunch hours, which aren't in fact too busy thanks to the company's niche fast food menu.

When I was starting my career in Toronto this was a good place, I learnt a lot. My co-worker who was new to this country, wasn't comfortable in speaking English, learnt a lot from the training. By the time she left she became so confident that she stated handling 2-3 customers all by herself. I learnt a lot from this place and have the right confidence to work on any position.


A typical day at Extreme Pita involves prepping vegetables for pitas, making pitas for customers, and grilling chicken and vegetables. I learned how to handle food and process orders and sales. The manager is great and very personable. She is easy going and creates a very positive work environment. My co-workers are all very hard working fun people who have given me an overall great work experience. The hardest part of the job is dealing with your average mall customer and people with little patience or manners. The most enjoyable part of the job, to me is working with the people around me and making good healthy food.

Typical day would start out prepping food, making menu items for customers, using cash register to complete all transaction. I learned how to be a team player and work well with staff. Management provided an unsafe work environment, asking us to do things that would put us in harms way. Management were negative and insulting, often playing favoritism and accusing us of stealing. The hardest part of the job was harassment I experienced from management. The most enjoyable part was getting along with staff, training new co-workers and serving customers.

I had worked under 5 owners, 5 menu boards, and then new owner that had started 6 months cut hours, wages to save money, unable to suffice for 4 hours a day after doing with 2 of us for the last 10 years doing the catering and extra things such as open and closing different shifts due to lack of hiring.
I had been very reliable, on time and put in my extra help.
The hardest part of the job was no extra employees, and needed to be rewarded more for what was done.
The most enjoyable part of the job was customer service, compliments, and working with 2 amazing people.
