First off, I have worked in the past as a factory worker, management, office worker and supervisor, all of which were very similar jobs/duties as there are at FedEx so I am familiar with how this type of business should be operating. 

The hours usually only last from 3-4 hours, on a good day. Not anything you can live on by any means. The workload among the employees is unequally distributed. They have workers doing very basic jobs that are getting paid the same as someone who works crazy hard for the whole shift. i e. someone pushing a box all shift while someone else may be unloading a trailer consisting of packages over 75+ for the whole shift. 
There is no "taking turns" or switching duties so you don't get run down or hurt from the amount/weight of packages you may be dealing with. The better worker you are, the more work they give you.
There is a lot of gossip and drama within the location. Much of which is based on how people treat each other and the favouritism that goes on. 

They state there is advancement, but this is totally untrue. Once positions open up in the office, management, etc... it would be given to a manger's "friend" or someone who hasn't complained or brought up any issues regarding the company. They don't like intelligent people who have things to say about operations. Only focused on the business rather than the employees well being. Look at the turnover rate and you can probably see why they are always hiring handlers, no one wants to stick around.

The worst part was the management there, or lack off. From experience and from fellow workers, I have seen management put employees in dangerous situations and hazards concerning Health and Safety. One instance involved someone who felt unsafe at work and had good cause to switch the duties that day but the manager made them do the job anyway. The employee got hurt and missed the next day of work because of it. Brought in a note the next day and was reprimanded for missing a days work even though the employee had a doctors note and the incident happened because of the manager. The manager(s) are very unfamiliar with how to deal with people and seems as if they don't have any training in management whatsoever. Very rude as well. Talk to you as if they know better than you or that you are greatly misinformed about things. 

HR is just as bad. When they have their own internal investigations, you come out of it feeling like you have wasted your time and efforts trying  to make them aware of serious issues. The HR department ( or whatever you want to call it), doesn't take claims seriously. 

If you think you will be making good money, think again. Raises are based on how long you have been there rather than performance based. This means you can only get a raise when everyone else does or the government raises it. Example of how petty they are, over Christmas there was a dollar raise because it gets busy, right after they took away the raise. It was as if they needed everyone to work even harder then took away any incentive after. 

Please if you just need a job, look elsewhere. This was the worst experience I have ever had within a working environment. The management alone was incredibly rude, unskilled, and favours certain people. Don't bother applying to this location if unless for some reason you enjoy stress, feeling useless and being taken advantage off. 

WORST JOB EVER!

I honestly used to enjoy this job a lot until I learned more about the company and management at this particular location. At the FedEx Ground station in Grimsby, training for package handlers is minimal. You learn so much more by talking to the drivers who can show you the best way to load the trucks but FedEx Ground management dissuades drivers from talking to the loaders because the drivers "are not FedEx employees". True, FedEx Ground doesn't hire the drivers, they hire contractors who bring with them a team of drivers and this is a terrible business model. It saves FedEx money but also allows them to use the contracts as a noose around the contractors' necks when they want. They bully the contractors into firing drivers if they don't like them by threatening to pull the contract or by preventing them from getting new delivery routes. If FedEx management really wants someone gone, they'll back the contractors into a corner. So there is a lot of mistrust and a lack of teamwork between FedEx management and contracted employees.

As a package handler you may not see it as much. They are strict on hours and will kick you out of the building even if you try to stay behind and tidy up the trucks you loaded. Shame because the work pace is fast and it helps to stay a few extra minutes to catch any boxes you may have loaded on the wrong truck. Especially since they have "documented discussions" with you when you do misload boxes. It's even more a shame that by telling people to leave right away, a lot of package handlers get lazy and just leave the trucks a mess for the drivers to figure out. It comes back around to a bad business model and FedEx not encouraging teamwork between its own employees and the drivers. The drivers really don't have a voice at all even though they are the face of the company, delivering to the customers.

If you are a FedEx employee and manage to get an office job you'll start to see how poorly managed the place is. Anyone who advances in this company is handpicked. At this station, in the office there is one guy working really hard, doing more than his share of work while the rest (including managers) are kicking back at their desks or covering for each other while they leave on personal errands. Any attempts at making progressive change or having meetings to discuss issues are a waste of time and breath here. It's their way or the highway. HR seems sadly under-educated and unaware of how these stations work and offer little help in resolving issues.

Apply at your own risk...but quite frankly, you can find a better job than this!

After my video interview, there were several automated responses dealing with security concerns and background check.  My date of hire was never clearly delineated, and I never received any salary payment for my first day of work.

The biggest problem by far was the extremely poor training offered; I was simply thrown into the deep end and expected to swim...or sink.  Since they are severely understaffed, there was no-one willing to take time to explain the overly-complicated company procedures, shipping regulations, package labeling, customs duties and countless other areas.

Procedures had been unchanged for decades, with layer upon layer of added complexity.  Any suggestion to simplify or improve their hopelessly inefficient system was met with immediate resistance and suspicion.  For example, I noticed that files were mixed up because some staffers write the date as Month/ Day while other staffers write Day/ Month (so that August 7 could be written as both 8/7 and 7/8...When I pointed this out to a superior I was challenged, and then brushed aside.

It is small wonder that customers complain every single day about lost packages! 

There was one Diversity hire from a foreign country who could not even speak understandable English, and yet he was assigned to teach me the complexities of the customer service role.  The Station Manager could usually be found outside in the parking lot, smoking cigarettes.  The second-in-command completely ignored me except when my time-card displayed an 'Error' message.

Altogether an unfriendly work environment and an unpleasant workplace.



messed up workshifts, inconsistent hours, people who work there are backstabbing snakes and rats who talk in your back and smile at your face. you wont be recognized for hard, quality and high output work. people who work there will degrade your potential and ruin you to become a rat like them. managers are dumb and do not know how to do their job which is to optimize money flow in order to better the company. safery hazard is a big problem. warehouse is dirty you will get asthma within 3rd month of work. overrall depressing work environment, you may give your all and be positive as much as you can but this place is so rotten that it will get to you no matter what. you look at your bosses and coworkers and all you can think of is ‘god forbid i become like that’, when it should be the opposite - you should be motivated to follow in the steps of your leaders and collegues. everyone there is fake. worst place ive worked for. sometimes i wondered if these people were for real with their bs, and they were. stay away for your own good, dont waste your time. this is sad because fedex is a big name company which was featured in my favourite movie ‘cast away’ back in the day. it’s silly but i felt pride when i first started there and was super motivated to do well. but as time went i saw that no matter how big a company is, if the people at that certain location are low quality then the place wont be great, and it is the case for Fedex warehouse in mirabel. low quality people will ruin everything even the best company name will get dirty. i cannot say for other locations but the one i worked for was trash.

There is a distinct lack of leadership at Fedex.  The management team don't really seem to know what it means to be managers, certainly not of people anyway.  They leave money on the table left right and centre because they don't seem to know what they're doing.  They ignored the feedback that the employees gave every year during the Employee engagement survey.  

You're expected to do all the work with minimal staff, old outdated and rundown equipment, with very little space to effectively and efficiently complete the work.  The turnover rate is astronomical.  

Due to the lack of proper leadership, high performing employees get stifled, and under performing employees are enabled.  
It's an extremely toxic work environment and the culture isn't very good.  Toward the end of my time there, I began to feel psychologically unsafe.  We're told that they create and employees can expect a respectful work place, but then turn around and tell staff that they must put up with other staff's disrespectful and belligerent behaviour.  They won't attempt to deal with the root of the problem, just reprimand the ones who point out that there are problems.

Overall, I would never recommend Fedex Express to anyone, not even an enemy.  It was bar none the most stressful time of my life, and it showed in my health.  After I left, I had friends tell me in one month of leaving that I looked different!

A decent workplace for students or those seeking temporary work.
This company can be a good option if you're not reliant on a stable income or consistent hours. It’s particularly suitable for students or individuals looking for flexible, short-term employment. No prior experience is required—even for delivery driver roles, as long as you hold an N-class license. The cargo handler position is low-pressure, with minimal physical demand.

However, the main drawback is the lack of guaranteed shifts. Hours can be highly inconsistent, and it’s not uncommon to be sent home after working just two hours. Job security is also minimal—terminations can happen without prior notice, contributing to a high turnover, especially among students.

If you're offered full-time hours, it may be worthwhile. Otherwise, the unpredictability makes it a less viable long-term option. Lack of Security and Benefits for Part-Time Roles
If you're working as a part-time Cargo Handler or Flex Driver, be aware that there are no job guarantees or benefits. These positions offer no employment security, and management can inform you at any time—without notice—that there is no more work available. It’s important to understand that part-time workers are treated as fully disposable, with little to no communication or consideration regarding shift cancellations or terminations.

Work life is good for a company that dose diliverys

u spend about 4-5 hours on the road for a flex driver in my area your area could be different..
they do their best to lighten the load of fellow drivers... 👍

as managers can be very busy at times and may not be Thier to help you...

Lack of training for me but the system is pretty easy to use so u can pick it up fairly easy when u get the chance

Also flex job is kinda a lazy mans job by LAzy I mean it's easy and short

It's super easy if you come across a big load ask Ur buddy in the same area for some help on that dilivery or get a dolly if you need it it's not very hard job at all

Take Ur time as safety is the key

Working as a Cargo Handler and ride-along support at FedEx has honestly been a workout program disguised as a job — and a rewarding one at that. I had the pleasure of working with a team that is professional, dependable, and always ready to jump in faster than a package on overnight priority.

The teamwork truly stands out. Everyone understands the importance of safety and delivering excellent service — preferably with a smile, even during peak season when the boxes seem to multiply on their own.

As a Cargo Handler, I took pride in making sure shipments were handled carefully and processed accurately. I did my best to go beyond the job description because I didn’t just feel like a team player — I felt like I was genuinely making a difference. Being available as a ride-along when needed gave me the chance to support drivers, learn different routes, and unexpectedly become a pretty solid navigator in a no cell phone area. The fast-paced environment sharpened my attention to detail, improved my time management, and taught me how to adapt quickly.

Most importantly, I feel fortunate to have worked alongside incredible people who made every shift better. The camaraderie and support were unmatched.

Why did I leave, you might ask? The next opportunity promised bigger and better things — mostly bigger promises. Unfortunately, not all promises come with tracking numbers. Lesson learned: sometimes more money doesn’t automatically mean more fulfillment. The real value is in the team you work with and the environment you’re part of. You can not always come back, even if you try. I wish them well !

Pay is around 5$ above minimum wage when you start as a courier. After 5 years you hit your kid point and it pumps up quite a bit. +/- 5-7$ more an hour. 

So you’d be looking at 27-28$.

The old timers seem to be stuck at 32$ and can’t go higher 

They don’t over load you unless you’re willing to do the extra stops

Always the opportunity for overtime if you ask/ are a good worker.

Best part is, you get paid overtime on a daily basis. If you work more than 8 hours in a day, then whatever over the 8 hour market is paid as time and a half and above 12 hours is time and a half.

With the new technology all you really need to do is follow the dots when it’s comes to making your deliveries. Of course having a head on your shoulders helps to be more efficient.

I worked as a courier from the age of 20 until 25 and loved it.

Don’t decide to leave the job and come back. 

Fedex express doesn’t count your experience from previous times you worked with them.

If I go back, my 5 years experience won’t be acknowledged and I will need to wait another 5 years until I hit mid point.

Overall great job 

I’d definitely recommend it to young people, 45 and younger because it can be a little tiring on the body.

All the 55-60 year old couriers who did this as their career have bodies in a lot of pain 

You get to listen to podcasts/ radio all day

For personal shipments you get something like 75% off. Which makes the price kind of reasonable, seeing as fedex is expensive to ship. But they do offer a great garantie (on time or it’s free)
