A typical day at work: Get to shop, load/unload trucks, be on site for 7am, listen to your foreman! do work, take truck back to shop, go home and repeat.

What you believe you learned: You will Definitely learn alot here, not like any other job I  have done before. from hand bombing small materials to operating heavy machinery they do lots of different types of work. 

Management: Specifically Saskatchewan's location management isn't great, lots of bad organization of sites and work force, lack of materials and or quality materials for construction purposes, Communication is not expressed in a productive manner, monitorization and evaluations of employees is non existent, lack of experience with new hires, or pick favorites with little to no experience, Unrealistic expectations are made realistic by making employees work Insane amounts of hours without the legal amount of time away from work required for workers to recover from fatigue. Unpaid training, or not paid in full, overtime is only paid after you have worked 50hrs, wage cuts at the start of the year, they enforce Ontario laws in Saskatchewan that do not apply here. Ex.(sign this "___" or you dont work here anymore)

Workplace culture: Everyone is a watermain technician even if people call you foreman you are not, you are a watermain technician. I believe this is a work around for not having to pay you foreman rate.  If you happen to be an easy going person you will get along with everyone, there is sort of a clique here but that is everywhere. Lots of lack of training and or because they go through so many employees no one wants to train anyone. Multiple people not knowing they're lefts and rights and asking which way the drill is spinning while they are using it or asking which way to spin the bolt to tighten it.

The hardest part of the job: Working the long hours 6 days a week is tough but it is all worth it at the end of the week. If your used to construction work then this is the hardest part of the job.

The most enjoyable part of the job: I think I can speak for most here, Its getting paid every week.



It is a nice, very clean workplace. The employers are so generous with salary, benefits, BBQ events, Christmas party... plus easy job every day.
The management is friendly, but somehow they should improve the situation. They should bring in more projects/works/orders so  the floor workers get more busy, and work more efficiently. If the works need one guy and two more guys involve, that very much mean they are having a party.
I am able to work independently, and most of the time, I work alone because as I mentioned above, the work is easy and does not require more than one person. The main problem is that if I work properly and efficiently, the more I can do the more I have to do. Of course I do not and never get paid enough to do everything.
To my experience, if your mom does not live here, do not work here.

Ferpal is a great company to work for! The HR is understanding and approachable, management team  is knowledgable and the training is well done. 
Ferpal offers the opportunity to move forward by offering different certifications/licensing opportunities and the wages and benefits are competitive. The hours are good and I believe there is opportunity for advancement within the company.
I've enjoy working with Fer-Pal and would recommend it to any one !

This company is alright they pay a decent rate depending on experience but equipment, trucks and tools are old and out-of date and in some cases unsafe, they will want you to drive company trucks but only pay you an extra 15 bucks instead of straight time to the site. thought they would teach valuable skills but you end up doing grunt monkey work banging nails out of boards and not much else. If you can afford to work 5 months a year then maybe you won't mind this place but layoffs are long with no garuntee with a call back.

FER-PAL Construction Ltd. has a very dynamic and fast paced atmosphere. A typical day of mine could could range from being in the office doing CAD work or in the shop prototyping equipment or conducting research and development experiments. People who work here are very friendly and helpful.

A typical day at work consisted of an early start, to a long day of fast paced environment, fun working with others. Over the years i learned a lot of critical construction safety requirements as well as duties. Working in extreme temperatures with both tools and machines was a bigger challenge, however management was always around to help. I myself followed instructions greatly to fulfill what was asked of me, and more.

95 percent of trucks are ex rentals not the   Company’s fault 90 percent of drivers can’t driver they got good mechanics if u can explain your problem with truck they will fix everything. Company just got bought out by a a French women that owns multiple shipping ports on the st Lawrence nobody cares any more
Money is great but you can always be replaceable. If u get hurt can’t stay home.

It was a busy, growing company when I was there and has grown significantly since I have been gone.  The only reason I didn't return the next season is because of the location I lived compared to where I worked..and the choice not to return wasn't easy.  The compensation was ideal, and the supervisors, managers, coworkers and even the owner was great - you are treated like family.








the travel

A pretty family oriented group. Easy to get along. Lots to learn and because it's still a growing company you get to actually see it happen right in front of you. Always promoting within. Promoting without upgrading one's skillset can also be a bad thing. Company needs to focus on team synergy working together. 

The shop manager is a nightmare. As with most shops, a injured mechanic was made a manager. As he has no experience in this role it becomes a nightmare. 4 parts people in 3 years. I lasted a year. The assistant manager is worse. Worked against you constantly and ask for things that were improper then blamed you for that
