As a temp Office Administrator I was to process payroll, handle reception and do whatever other administrative tasks were assigned. The contract was extended twice (the best compliment you can give a temp) and they were cool with me applying new skills as I learned them.

Since I was a temp I can't really comment on their benefits and job advancement, although I did see others get promoted (sideways and upward) in my time there. It's also difficult to assign a star value to their management since Branch and Corporate are quite different.

Although I'm experienced with office work it was always for giant dog-eat-dog drama pit corporations. Although it is still under the corporate blanket, FoS Saskatoon isn't one of those tiring drama-filled companies. Employees who actively cause problems get the axe and employees who are part of the team get rewarded. It's so simple yet this is the first place I've ever worked that actually follows through with it.

Two things struck me about the local management at FoS. Firstly, whenever the boss and I would disagree he would still hear me out and explain his side of the matter and why it needed to be a certain way. Secondly the boss considered long-term effects of everything. That's very important to me. They're handling influence from corporate very well too, which will also promote a lack of drama.

The branch functions a lot like a family and are pretty quick to learn each other's little quirks like touchy subjects and when to joke vs. when to dig the heels in and work like crazy. People will give you straight answers or direct you to who can, instead of just making stuff up. Everyone chips in to make far less extra work for others than usual.

In a way the loose protocol caused problems sometimes. Reception was made more difficult by staff often not letting the front staff know they were leaving and how they want their calls handled. It's improving but still had a way to go. They could also benefit from better explaining to the intermediary positions like administration how the different job roles affect the end result. It took me months to find out and many mistakes would have been avoided if it was all explained earlier. But both these problems were in the process of being solved when I left.

Truly the most enjoyable part of the job was in dealing with the employees. Seeing them go from skeptical to neutral to friendly and trusting towards me as they felt better about me processing their timesheets and solving their payroll issues warmed my heart. I know that sounds sappy but it's so rare that it actually happens in a job and it made me want to work.

I was recently re-tested on Microsoft Office and my scores were notably higher than my previous test, which was before I had worked with Firstonsite. The proof is in the pudding here. Working for FoS made me a better person.

First of all this company is owned by the teachers union. Management is a terrible, more bosses than employee's, lots of turnovers in management (always getting fired). Pay is the only decent thing about this position and medical. More than 60% of the time you have to use your own vehicle and travel your coworkers with you for very minimum mileage allowance. Job is 24/7 so you are always on call, weekend and evenings. I was employed as a carpenter, so you must have all your own tools, which can be costly. So my advise to you, only apply for this position if your really stuck, 5 months for me was more than enough. Unless your related or a yes man/woman your probably safe. They hire lots of people without a record check, which is wrong especially when dealing with pack outs of valuable merchandise. Personally if there was ever a disaster in my home, they will definitely will not set foot in this door. Get another disaster company to determine your situation and you have a choice of your own contractor that you can trust. Good luck to you if you ever apply. I worked for several restoration companies in Nova Scotia as carpenter, foreman and project co ordinator for over a decade, so that's my experience with them.

I have worked for this company for nearly 7 years. It is clearly dedicated to improving its outward services and its inward culture. It has great benefits, excellent HR staff and resources, caring and knowledgeable Leaders who are always growing their skills. There is a constant drive to train and improve people at all levels of the company, and in Edmonton all local Leaders have been promoted from within. Diverse staff employed. Employees receive two performance reviews per year, Gallup polls for engagement, and all staff have weekly meetings where their experiences are shared. A lot of happy people here, and clear Team environment. Also driving industry safety standards. JHSC. COR certified and high external audit ratings. Incident reporting, investigation, policy development and related training. FOS developed it's own contact tracing program during the pandemic, paid all isolation leave, and had zero cases spread within the company at great cost. It very clearly cares about the wellbeing of its employees. Also the pay is competitive on all levels of the company.

Continuous management changes . They hire with in  and bring with them bad management skills that suit each individual manager whether or not the company makes money it seems to be backed  by upper management . job security is day to day . I worked in Edmonton  it seemed to struggle  alot but we had a good group with in the core and it was making ground . We serviced the fort Mac fires and lost our shirts due to poor upper management strategies . I believe Egos led the way  and we crapped the bed , the company was sold to a united states franchise during this time and alot of people lost their jobs as a result thus moving in even worse entrenched management .I like the business , But they need to give way to those who work and lived in construction  , there was never any respect for tradesmen of any sort . Project Managers were all but useless when it came to scopes . Completely missing  very important steps . Cheers .

My day to day changes all the time depending on the type of job. I do a great deal of different tasks such as: Packing, Detail cleaning, moving, Organizing, Documentation, Construction, and Deliveries.My Co-workers are great, they are supportive and reliable they all have such great personalities. The hardest part of my job is the extremely long hours and lack of communication. The thing i enjoy the most would have to be the change of  scenery from day to day. I love the feeling of helping people that have just suffered from a property loss (ie. fire, flood, asbestos, wind and mold damage) and the feeling that comes from helping them get their home back. I love the satisfaction of accomplishment that come from a homeowner when they are overwhelmed with emotion and gratitude and that i am able to help.

Expected to be at the shop 30 minutes before shift to load materials then leave when shift begins so work 30 minutes for free management don’t want to listen to your problems your having on a job just get it done attitude 
No possibility of advancement unless your a brown noser or part of the French click yes most of the staff are French so if you don’t speak French your going to have a rough time there 
Hours are long 10-12 hrs a day plus on call 24/7 every 3 weeks so basically no life 
They promise you a raise after 3 months then tell you after they only give annual raises and not the amount they promised make sure to get it in righting 
Construction managers and project managers don’t have a clue on how to rebuild things no construction experience at all do yourself a favour go work at another  place for less money you will be much happier 

Great company with fair environment to work. Supervisors will help you succeed on your task and will give you advice and tips to make it easier. The only cons or problem I encounter here is that manager has a favouritism, worker she likes can decline a job and pass it to another person if that person refuse he\she will get a disciplinary action. Also a group of worker she likes will get full hours on a slow season while others get sent home getting half day or 4 hours shift, Not just that manager will choose who will go to a new claim instead of the worker on call that day/night. Last thing that can proved there is favouritism is when I worked with this EMT and added extra hour on our job but we finished early she just approves it while the other EMT I worked with need to explain give her every detail why we had that much time on our timesheets.

This has to be one of the worse companies I have EVER worked for. The management here is absolutely terrible, they have no remorse and don’t care about you when you’re new. They won’t listen to anything you have to say and will always side with someone who has been there longer. (very clicky environment) These people will work you so hard but still say you aren’t good enough. It doesn’t seem like there’s any room to move up in this company as well as no raises. Those who are supposed to be “training” you just sit around all day and can’t properly explain to you how to do things. For the short amount of time I was there, I saw 5 people get fired so if you’re looking for a long term job this ain’t it. Two weeks into my job I already wanted to quit, that’s how bad it was. If you care about your mental health and well being please find a better job. This should be a last resort.

A typical day at work is to plan and negotiate client meetings. For e.g., plan a key account meeting, review presentaition, develop co-op marketing plans, manage budget allocation to trade shows, tournaments, sponsorships, advertisements in industry related publications.

Work under direct supervision of SVP of the BC region with minimum interference from the management. I earnestly manage marketing, promotions and Brand positioning in lower mainland in 4 different branch offices.

The hardest part of the job is to ensure quality service and effective time management. I have successfully mastered the art of working across different functional areas and manage my time effectively to package and deliver efficient marketing & client relationship.

Managers were not knowledgeable.  In particular, the manager leading the carpenters, drywallers, etc. had no knowledge whatsoever as to what was involved.  He had his favourite person who would walk in at the end of the job and put his name down as having completed it.  This person did not have a ticket, no people skills but received credit.  This person's work was that of a butcher but again he and the manager came to this company together and he reported everything he saw to this individual.  Aside from these two individuals who were the road block the other co-workers were excellent to work with.  During my time there, the firm lost quite a few very good people.  This was brought to the attention of upper management and nothing was done.  The firm would be a great place to work in except for this problem.
