Working in aviation is a challenging and rewarding experience, no matter which company you’re with. The job keeps you on your toes, and you learn a lot, especially from pilots and some very supportive flight attendants. However, it’s important to know that passengers can often be disrespectful and quick to blame you for things outside of your control, it’s just part of the job. If you don’t have strong people skills, this job isn’t for you. In my opinion, this should not be someone’s first job, you need experience dealing with difficult situations and maintaining professionalism under pressure.

That said, management is where things really fall apart. They have a habit of picking favorites, and it shows. People can call in sick right before a flight, have multiple uniform violations, etc, with no consequences, while others, who are genuinely sick or have valid leave of absence reasons are given a hard time. There’s no consistency in how they handle issues, and the micromanagement is exhausting. You’ll even get reported for things that have nothing to do with safety, which makes manager meetings more of a hassle than anything useful.

Work-life balance can be manageable if you’re good at bidding for shifts, but if you’re not a management favorite, they won’t work with you. Gossip is rampant, and advancement is nearly impossible unless you’re part of the inner circle.

Still, I enjoyed the actual job itself, and I’ve learned a lot. Some of the flight attendants are truly encouraging and helpful, while others should probably be in roles that don’t involve customer service. Overall, aviation isn’t for the faint of heart, and it’s not the best place to make friends, but if you have experience, thick skin, and a passion for learning, it can still be a valuable career. Just don’t expect much support from management.

Ever since the new CEO arrived, Flair feels less like an airline and more like an executive reunion tour.
There seems to be a never ending stream of new VPs and Directors  appearing out of nowhere, many of whom appear to come from the same professional circles. The organizational chart keeps growing upward while employees are left wondering who is actually responsible for running the airline.
The company talks about efficiency, cost control, and performance, yet somehow there always seems to be budget for another executive title. Meanwhile, the people actually keeping the operation moving are expected to do more with less.
From the outside, it looks less like strategic hiring and more like an effort to recreate a previous leadership team. Every new announcement fuels the perception that familiar faces are being brought in regardless of whether additional layers of management are what the airline actually needs right now.
The result is an organization that feels increasingly top-heavy and disconnected from reality. There are so many leaders that employees joke the company may soon have more people managing the operation than actually operating it.
Flair has enormous potential, but right now it feels like the focus is on building an executive empire rather than building the best airline possible. Employees notice it. Customers eventually will too.

Currently they are mass hiring and don't care about any current or new employees. The entire company is run by children who care more about how they look on IG then being professional and trustworthy. The training is really bad and they literally will hire absolutely anyone and everyone. The call it inclusive but it is desperate. They then after will make fun of the employees style and personality if it doesn't align with their perceived image. There is no communication within management to employees or visa versa. Everyone tells you something different every day. You can not get a hold of anyone for anything and then they get mad when you are not prepared. They only care about money and taking down competition. They lure you in with false promises and then change everything once you start. Pay is less then minimum wage disguised in an inflated pay scale. You sit on reserve forever and as soon as they hire new people, the current staff have to sit on reserve so the new people can get their hours. Everyone in the company thinks they are better then everyone else and moral is very low. It is so unorganized that it is simply put ... unsafe. Stay clear unless you like to be abused and used. 

Two weeks was all it took to know how horrible their company is. Their training is all rushed, unorganized, and their instructors are all on a power trip, unprofessional. They get offended or feel threatened when you question them or when you correct them. There is no room for personal opinions in this industry when it comes to regulated safety standards/procedures and they seem to have a lot of that. Their management structure is feeble at best, they’ll dismiss you the minute they feel that you will not adhere to their idea of “safety standards” BUT don’t dismiss people who come in late or fall asleep in class. Don’t know how they’re still in business or how anything got approved, their FAM has so many discrepancies. All these new Flight attendants are not safe because training is so rushed, they don’t even know what an aircraft door looks like. Not to mention, all their emergency drills don’t make sense and so many new flight attendants are left feeling unsure even after their training has been done. They don’t feel confident operating, and that’s a problem. Flair doesn’t care about their employees nor their passengers safety at all. 

As stated in the title, Flair is a stepping stone for a long term career in aviation but I would not recommend working for them. Flair is a mess right now- they’re hiring way more flight attendants than they can handle when they should be hiring people in the management department. They want to grow so quickly that it might end up being their downfall. There are constant payroll issues, training is disorganized and you won’t feel comfortable enough to operate once you’ve finished your line indoctrination, and to top it off, majority of the crew schedulers have no idea what they’re doing. Some of them will even hang up on you. They always try and schedule flight attendants to work shifts that aren’t legal- one of my coworkers was scheduled for a 19 hour day! How is that allowed? 
Besides all those problems, there’s currently only 1 layover opportunity (YYZ-YYC) that you will never get because all the seniors bid for it. All flights are quick return flights. 
If you want to become a flight attendant, exhaust your other options before applying to Flair. Good luck

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No support from management or any part of the company. They will push you to work long hours even sometimes over 17 hours when you are no longer legal. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
HR is pro company and is always out to get you. The environment is awful as there is a big reporting culture and management picks and chooses favourites. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I show up to my check in time, usually aircraft is delayed and has a mechanical. Crew Sched has not yet contacted us so we have already left our rest facility. Finally when we are able to depart we do safety checks and provide food and beverage service.

A typical day at work consisted of making interpreting log pages and recording the maintenance and parts used into a complex data base. Safety, efficiency and the ability to interpret were  paramount. I learned that my skill set was ideal for the environment. I was very impressed by the management hand-off style. The workplace culture was nurturing and professional. The most difficult part of the job was to learn a new and complex inventory system and the need to work alone consistently with very little public interaction. The most enjoyable part of the job was learning about the intricacies of aircraft maintenance procedures,.

At the head Office, there is a friendly, family protected workspace and you’ll often find your co-workers to be happy and friendly. This creates a great vibe, that truly helps one succeed in the work place. The job benefits and pay are also nice, we had unlimited free standby flights and the pay was good as stated. I thoroughly enjoyed it, even if the management was quite poor and often ignored the employees needs entirely, including all requests. This was a serious failure on part of the company, but otherwise, once their management/supervisor issue can be fixed, it could be a great company to work at.

Life at Flair was not great. Low pay compared to other airlines in Canada. Long hours working mainly turns, and many overnights. The amount of fatigue you go through is awful. 

Crew bases can be small, which can cause a lot of cliques. If crew don’t like you, it is felt across the base. It can be a very toxic, isolating, company. 

Management is useless, they do not care about the safety and wellbeing of their crew. 

Overall, she’s a hot mess. 

Long days with no breaks, they work you like dogs if you’re a flight attendant. They do not accommodate you very well. They let awful people be rewarded for terrible behaviour. Lots of bullies in the company that are not dealt with. No layovers, terrible pay (you are paid below minimum wage if you don’t work more than the set hours you’re supposed to), I wouldn’t recommend this job to any body who wants to afford life. If you can waste some time and money, take this job.
