The role of technical writer at Foremost hardly involved interacting with anyone else because the nature of their production and sales is based on orders of the same limited line of products. It wasn't too difficult to create parts manuals for the next order because 90% of it would be based on prior models of the same type of heavy equipment with only very minor modifications. So one would find themselves doing the same thing over and over from day to day and from week to week. 

I learned to utilize Adobe graphics software applications as well as engineering-centric applications....but for the most part in their environment was self-taught or trial and error because there was no one free or available to provide guidance and no one saw it as part of their role to train anyone else.

Management took great risk in what was hoped would be the way to advance the business and increase market share by acquiring or taking over other complimentary businesses but it resulted in hastening the near-collapse of the entire operation with the unexpected worldwide decline of the O&G industry. This resulted in over 70% of staff being laid off throughout their 8 locations in Canada.

Co-workers were generally sociable and congenial.

The hardest part of the job was envisioning professional growth within the company. It did not appear that there was a path, nor a proactive employee development plan.

Probably the most enjoyable part of the job was the predictability of each day. You knew what needed to be done and when things were expected to be completed and there were very few surprises along the way.

Worked in Lloydminster West location. Short term. Could not deal with the safety infractions commited daily and endorced by management.
The dirtiest most unsafe out dated fab shop I've ever seen.
Outright dangerous equipment disrepair. Record keeping of OHS regulated equipment aerial lifts and cranes makes me wonder how they don't get shut down.
My guess is the inspectors really don't get to see the day to day operations. Surprised no one has got killed there yet.
If your desperate this company will take advantage of that and whip you into unsafe work conditions until you think it's normal.

I received an injury after using an orbital sander for ten hours a day.  I went to my dr and my dr gave me a note fir modified duties. The supervisor, lead hand and safety person then proceeded to yell at me and tell me I as well as my doctor are liars. They then proceeded to yell at me because my doctor notified wcb. Wcb and my doctor put me on modified duties and they still tried to get me to do the work that caused the injury and told me they did not care as I was useless to them now.  I then had to fight with them to get the wages that I was entitled to as per WCB rules.

I would get to work around 7 am and try and get most of the paperwork done before lunch so that in the afternoon I could concentrate on helping other departments with the need for work orders to be made.  I learned that I can adapt myself to almost any situation and come out on top.  I am able to try hard and learn what needs to be known and once I get the hang of it I can succeed at it.  I had an amazing manager and he always tried to answer any questions I had as well as walk me through the things I struggled with step by step.

The shop is dirty, messy and unorganized. Equipment is in poor condition with little to no maintained. Employee training and development is non existent, You are stuck in the position you got hired. Management doesn't really care unless your one of the good ol' boys. Be prepared to get yelled at!
They also recently started hiring T.F.W (Temporary foreign worker) and treat them really poorly. They are yelled at and mocked for not speaking perfect English. 

an awesome management team, with employees willing to help and go that extra mile to accommodate and help whenever needed.
I find the most enjoyable part of the job is leaving the shop with a sense of accomplishment and dedication.
hours are amazing, early hours during the weekday with weekends off, help those with families and sports associations.

This company is very unorganized. The most enjoyable part of the job was the pay. Management was not professional and left me feeling very disappointed that I moved from abroad to accept a position here. Workplace culture was also quite toxic, but it was typical welding shop toxic. Seems like a good place to pick up hours for your apprenticeship, steer clear otherwise people!

Be careful if you apply here, make sure you are Olympic athlete levels of fit.

 They'll give you the job, have you sign a job contract in which nowhere does it say your position acceptance is contingent on passing a fitness test and then HR will terminate it out of the blue if they do not like your 'fit test' results without even giving you a chance to prove yourself.

Absolute scum of the earth, this place isn't worth it if that's how they treat new employees, go elsewhere.

Lack of organization from upper management

Very low moral amungst the workers that upper management doesnt see

Time lines are the most important just get the job done

It's you, and only you. Shop foremans will tell you what you want to hear. Union environment, but they have their loop holes on seniority when it comes to lay-offs. If you're not a buddy, you're gone.  Lacks teamwork, alot of laziness here, don't expect help if you need it. 

However, foremost is a good way to get involved in an appenticeship ( provided you bring your knee-pads, you'll need them ).

In all honesty, and bitterness aside, they're just not worth it.
