Fort McKay First Nation

My typical workday was to make a trip down to the band office and collect any mail for my department. Distribute the mail. Check my email. Answer any phone calls. Keep a list of all persons present. Make a trip to town for any groceries needed for that day. Create cheque runs for people that attended meetings and date and time stamped all invoices. Booked travel arrangements, filled out paperwork for travel arrangements. Received signatures from the required personnel for invoices. Made copies of those invoices to keep for files. Implanted a system in the office of trips to the band office. Received signatures from payees of the company that were picking up their cheques. Took meeting minutes. Planned events, picked up food/catering. Delivered express mail to greyhound for shipping. Did groceries.

I didn't meet everyone because I was a temp and I wasn't introduced to anyone except the management and the people in my department. But I learned to introduce myself to those I met they in turn shared their experiences with me. I enjoyed every part of my job. The hardest part of my job was trying to understand what people were saying on the phone. The most enjoyable part of the job was meeting people who would share their experiences about the past and their lives with me.

A First Nations company where everyone is here to make money while they can. From CEO to clerk every one is manipulating the system. Just like when they came from Europe the first day to now. THEY are here just to manipulate make it big fill their pockets and leave.  A typical day at work is who is rubbing whose back. Who is bringing coffee for who. Work is look pretty and go for dinners 

Absolutely horrible supervisors and management. Kid gloves needed at all time. No support from supervisor or management. Supervisors and management have no idea what there doing. It’s astonishing they haven’t folded. Timelines are super slow. Complete disrespect shown.  They take and leave you feeling empty inside. Run for the hills. Worst place I have ever worked. If you want to work for a professional organization. Do not come here. 

The work involved the understanding of potential joint benefits in high level business relationships then with imagination and energy pressing ahead to return value to the stakeholders.  Tremendous room for relationship growth and endless initiatives to exploit. 


This is the absolute worst place I have ever worked. 

This is an extremely unprofessional establishment and if you value your sanity, your life and yourself, do not work for this organization.

Enjoyed working with the children. Day to day there was always something wrong, a higher up treating you poorly, if someone was upset with you they would treat you like a child example: silent treatment, dirty looks, very political. If you aren’t like by the management they will find a way to get rid of you 

FMFN provided a creative and supportive work culture that encouraged learning and development in all roles. The management is helpful in identifying obstacles and creating solutions in all manner of areas.

Working within the community was great, I learned alot from the Elders. Management took the time to get to know us and was willing to supply additionally training where needed. The most enjoyable was working within the community.

Terrible management. Continous broken promises. Management have no idea what they are doing. Takes months for assignments to be completed. Worse law enforcement organization ever. Highly recommend avoiding this agency. 

Busy job, lots of autonomy, no major complaints.  I have autonomy in my job, and a great team I oversee.  I enjoy my job.  Only complaint is that pay is not competitive with other organizations in the RMWB, however we do get a lot of time off, and a decent bennefit package.
