OMG this place is a total joke! First they had a mother and daughter running the show. It was just one scandal after another. Someone finally had the balls to get rid of them. But apparently they didn't learn their lesson because they promoted two sisters to run the place Bahahahahaha!!! And these two don't have a clue how to run a company. They only know how to power trip and talk down to people. The rules literally change every day. And you're just expected to know what to do. And then you get in trouble for not doing it right, even though it was never explained to you. There's absolutely no professionalism. They hire their friends and show favoritism. Like breaking company rules and allowing their friends to break the rules, like smoking in the company trucks and taking long breaks. One of the sisters actually has temper tantrums, like kicking chairs and yelling at people, in front of a new employee who was only there for 3 days! People are quitting almost on a daily basis because of her. And when you try to complain to the other sister, guess what? It gets swept under the rug. I'm pretty sure upper management is aware of what's going on but they're probably too embarrassed to admit that putting these two in power after they got rid of the first train wrecks was a huge mistake. The only way I would recommend anyone to work there is if you don't really need a job but you're curious to see if it's really as bad as everyone says it is there.

I really loved my position as an employee of GDI services except for  the late shift scheduling, being shorted on my pay checks & getting threatened that my job could be given to someone else because I sat down for two seconds on a busier day. My fellow staff members where a great crowd to be with and made it a fun workplace to be in. 

They trained me poorly and did not teach me everything when I first started at GDI and it seemed they kept on adding on new things on each week and saying I should have already known what I should have been doing these things but they never trained me to do those new things when they first started training me (when I started) then I get in trouble for not knowing. They should have taught me everything on my first & second day of work instead of telling me weeks later on what I have to do.

Weird lunch break times, they put me on my lunch break on the most busiest part of the day so when I come back from my lunch break I would have a LOT of work to do and catch up on.

Difficult jib to maintain after training. Overall bad experience felt that upper management was not on my side. Adding to the work load consistently with out given extra time or help priotzing what moat important. Customer was very difficult as well. Management had a bad habit of saying they will fire you with out any prior violations in a effort to get more work done. When you complete added work more will be added. If work is not able to be done they will find any and all bs reason to conduct a meeting or violation paper. Holidays are not great if you vaule your family time pick another job.  As well as pay is not always accurate to what you actually worked This one will take your time and engery for pennys on the dime. The pay is not worth it and the turn over rate is ridiculous. The benift are okay but you can find better elsewhere for a healthier job. Even as someome who is passionate about cleaning the expectations for time given is not achievable even for full time staff  at some locations. The social dynamics are gruling and your not treated well. Team lead position is not worth it either. You could hardly call it a raise in pay for what is required. And to my knowledge there isnno over night premium. If your intrested in a clea ing job apply directly to company you want to work for dont go throughba thrid party contracter. 

First things first, this company started in Montreal, Quebec and made it's way out to Toronto and the westcoast, buying out all other cleaning services like it, as well as cleaning product suppliers. They cleaned up all the small businesses, leaving business owners with no options in the employment world. Thanks GDI!  GDI Services specifically hires people of low IQ, weak english to no english speaking classes to work for them at minimum wage or lower. This because these people have very little knowledge as to what their rights are in this country. I heard that director or whatever manager that belongs to the downtown toronto core division has no knowledge of the business and has no respect for people of different nationalities/races. Whoever he/she is needs to get fired and replaced by someone a little more educated or noble. For the entire time I worked with GDI, they would not give me one raise or bonus. They like to keep all the money for themselves. Very corrupt business, they remind us of your typical anglo saxon trash. On another note, the staff I worked with were very fun and friendly. They all have deep stories about the hardships in their lives. It's sad, we come to Canada in search of a better life but we get treated like garage to fulfill the growth of the Canadians kingdom.

THE HARDEST PART OF JOB
I concede that the aspect of social interaction limits is almost a very challenging particularly when working in schools where you are sometimes whether you like or not, you may meet students tending to need interacting with you, particularly those who tends to start the connection with you, the staff and due to some situations it becomes difficult to avoid the relationship with them! Good example is when I was sent to work to Fredericton High School and few students who realised that I am looking like their fellow students who are actually my children, they followed me asking me whether I am father of the students and since I agreed to them that It is so they loved me very much and they used to follow me and greet me whenever they see me in the school corridors; It is very difficult situation that may put in hard situation some staff especially some who have been encountering social interaction conditions concerns and especially if students are not taught to very limit their need to connect every person arround them.

Typical night was doing my designated floor PLUS covering someone else's work if they don't show up. Work expectations are unrealistic.  Management never took suggestions, or listened to ideas. Even if it was proven to work & make things run more smoothly. Expected to clean with no OR very limited supplies. Cleaning carts are disgusting & broken. There was no health and Safety in place. There will NEVER be job advancement, you will NEVER receive credit or recognition for ANYTHING! There is too much job insecurity within management for them to ever let that happen. Paranoid is an understatement! They are sexist and racist and everyone knows it, and the company doesn't care. There is no structure. Every single payday someone was missing hours & money! Do yourself a favour and stay as far away from GDI as possible!! They promise their client sooo much, but they don't provide the workers the tools, supplies and training to achieve this. Their turnover rate is ridiculously high. Hardest part if the job was going to work, most enjoyable part of the job was going home. Working for GDI taught me how NOT to treat people

What is the best part of working at the company?
They CAN be flexible about your schedule (late starts, having to leave early, and bad weather days), but some team leads think they're supervisors and try to override that flexibility at some projects. The actual manager is very accommodating, within reason of course.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
You only get paid twice a month, short months have smaller pays, and all their sites in oromocto are minimum wage. You also can only draw your vacation out once a year after 12 months. Some people like to use their vacation to cover sick and weather days, that is NOT an option with GDI.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It depends on the site. Smaller schools, like elementary, have a smaller team. High schools have very large teams, and with larger teams comes more potential for people to butt heads. The work is easy, but the drama makes it hard to come to work in the bigger sites, where promotions are decided based on who's more bothersome (the squeaky wheel gets the grease if you will), and a popularity contest, NOT based on skill and aptitude.

This job is very stressful. It doesn't matter how hard you work, you're still made to feel like you don't do enough or don't work fast enough. They expect you to solely work and never talk to coworkers/customer's. I feel very unappreciated every single day. Occasionally I'll be told "you're doing good" but then sometimes I'll be reminded within an hour that I'm not doing enough. There's no opportunity for advancement, I'm locked in a three year contract at minimum wage, and when we say no to the wage they present at the end of a contract, they'll wait months before offering us $0.20 more, and we're told "if you say no we'll go on strike", which nobody wants to do because we're all struggling to get by as it is. My co-workers are all miserable and it leads to a very toxic work environment where everyone's constantly gossiping about each other and stabbing each other in the back, rather than working as a team to get things done. 

Overall it's a very immature work environment which negatively impacts my mental health every single day, and my bosses don't care at all. I strongly recommend NOT working for GDI. 

I worked over at the refinery location, and overall it wasnt too bad, except the fact we would constantly be told what were missing/doing wrong instead of being noticed for the extra stuff we did on the daily. My job was the easiest run, my partner and i cleaned the satilites, great work, it kept you busy. I really did like me run, and my partner, but the management is unprofessional. They hire their friends all the time, so when youre working your butt off theyre out on their hour long lunches, not just 1 friend, but all 3, everyone else was expected to abide by the rules, and if you didnt you were on your last legs, or so they say. I only worked there for 2 months, and honestly i really did enjoy the hard work, but didnt enjoy the constant criticism, sloppy night shift, or unfair treatment. 
  Man the management is so slack we told them for weeks that the night shift wasnt doing their jobs and leaving big messes in the truck everyday, but no one said nothing. Nights are constantly favorited while youre getting blamed for what they did wrong.

The company treats their employees like garbage. They use and abuse their employees. Many teachers and school staff look down on the cleaners and are very mean and ridiculously picky. In some schools it's too the point the school staff is so rude and degrading to the cleaning staff that the kids are following suit amd supervisor or management will never stand up for their employees and can be just as cruel. Management doesn't provide proper equipment to donyour job. You need to spend out of your own pocket to get equipment to move heavy objects. Teachers and administration staff are rude to cleaning staff in most the schools. You're expected to jump to demands of teachers during unpaid lunch breaks and if you don't you get written up. Workers are treated like robots and when accidents are reported they are rarely actually filed. Was told one wage on application for job then given minimum wage. GDI refuses to let employees see the contract as well which states the actual responsibilities of employees. Instead they add to our work load and say do what your told so we keep the contract.
