I can only tell you that it is straight from top to bottom. The Management in the head office is so out of the loop when it comes to “rank and file” employees. You do as they say not as they do. They think you are stupid and have no respect. IT IS about money and if it wasn’t for SOME CCAs the residents would have no care at all. And I mean right down to some staff buying items for residents who have nothing. I have witnessed the illnesses endured by the staff from stress and anxiety to people leaving nursing all together. They have lost the meaning of caring other than caring for themselves and their own pockets. This is strictly my own opinion but I lived it. Unless the upper Management completely changes stay away. People may read this as coming from a disgruntled employee but honestly the best thing that ever happened was leaving GEM. I thank God I left when I did and life is now balanced and full of joy. It’s taken a year to have the nerve to write this. Can anyone say PTSD! 

I’ve never worked somewhere where co-workers and management alike really go above and beyond for the success of the home and for the well being of each other. Despite Covid, management worked tirelessly to support us all, and really look out for you. They helped me advance in my position and provided the flexibility for my schooling. It is an awesome company to boot with incentives like no other. They have a great benefit package, competitive wages, and fun little presents to show their appreciation for staff (ex. Turkeys at Christmas, free lunches as thank you’s, coats, and mugs for staff appreciation days). Despite the stressful times, they have maintained great morale and I would highly recommend a career at Groves Park Lodge if you’re looking for a workplace that truly feels like home.

Salary is more competitive compared to other long term care.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The nurses on the dementia unit are tasked with handling staffing responsibilities during weekends and after office hours while also caring for residents and managing medication distribution.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
At The Mira, I have noticed that some employees may not be as welcoming to immigrants, and there seems to be a weak work system in place.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I find that during the day shift, I could use additional support to manage the required tasks effectively.

A typical day is greeted by everyone by saying good morning. 

I have learned so much about how the company got started and how it has grown through hard work, dedication to the residents and staff, and how being a part of the community is important. 

I have realized that the employees have been with the company for 15 plus years, which shows me how much they love the company, the people they work with, and the residents we care for. 

The workplace culture has a clear Mission and Values, transparent leaders who are present and accessible, committed to diversity, and hire people who understand and believe in our mission, vision, and goals. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is being recognized for my strengths and being able to be a part of industry change.

The residents are the best part of the job.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Hard work and dedication to the job goes unnoticed and is unappreciated by management. Management is poor. Apparently some GEM facilities are better than others. Long hours for not enough pay. Managers act as though staff salaries come from their own pockets.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Management treats you like you're a criminal even if you work hard and care for the residents like they were family.

As a director of business operations, I had experience in preparing and analyzing the financial data including accounts payable and receivables, trial balances, and account reconciliations. I managed payroll procedures, and pension and benefits contributions. I supervised the payroll coordinator and office administrator during my position at the Admiral. 

In this role, I improved my leadership skills. The workplace culture was female dominant due to the nature of business - nursing home. Always in interactions with the residents, fun and friendly atmosphere.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The in house co workers are amazing.  90% of the team are team players.

In house management has 0 say on day to day operations therefore the place is mess

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment was sometimes toxic, simply because no decisions we made in house.  And it’s impossible to run a building appropriately when you have 0 clue what they need!

Stressful simple! 1 person doing the job of many

The management there is toxic, of all the Healthcare environments I've been in this has been the worse. Staff are defenseless against  them, and forget your union that robs you blind. If your not in their circle they have no use for you. We paid almost 20k in union dues and had nothing but a pizza party for day shift to show for it. Workers don't smile  no one is happy . If you try to further your education,  mgmt will not allow you to go casual,  you have to leave. They have lost a lot of great staff over the years.

The working environment is good, the salary is paid on time, and the employees are friendly.

There hasn't been any so far. I am very satisfied with my work here.

The company treats all employees equally and makes an effort to provide a stress-free working environment. The relationships with colleagues are human and comfortable.

It is comfortable, satisfying, and stable.

Management,  and other employees who are just there for a pay check

Very toxic.  If you stand up for yourself or against something you think is wrong you get fired.

Stressful and unpleasant. A lot of talking behind people's back and suck ups.
