I loved working at Genetec for most of my time there. The people were great, the corporate culture very pro-employee, and I learned a whole slew of technologies in my day to day life at the company.

The product is solid and has rightfully earned its place amongst the market leaders, and while the company has grown, it still had the start up feel in many of the aspects. It was easy to know people in most department and never too difficult to get the ear of anyone, including management. Year end bonuses and gifts were also very generous.

The start up feel unfortunately also worked as a negative. Most people who changed positions did so laterally as opposed to truly being promoted, or it was only a minor promotion. There was a feeling that there was a glass ceiling that internal employees who came in after the core group could never break - their work is very appreciated, but not necessarily to contribute in further ways to the company's growth, even though they might have passionately wanted to. As such, a lot of the leads were either (young) longer time employees or more experienced people from the outside, and if you aren't perceived to be able to do more, you will not be promoted no matter the qualification.

Salary was average for the position, though the year-end bonus helps boost it into very acceptable territory the more years you spend at the company. As mentioned above, it was career mobility which was more hamstrung.

That being said, I have heard that the company has started to review its salaries and career path, so it may have gotten better.

Junior team leader leading us nowhere, who makes his technological choices based on what his "best pal" in the team tells him, pal who appears to be the biggest toxic incompetent rookie ever.

Project doomed from the beginning. Nobody takes you warnings into account.

One week you're praised by your manager for your good job regardless despite how bad the project was lead and you're welcomed again in "the great Genetec family", the next week, after one more manager change, you're fired because some executive is infuriated by how the project is going...

Management does not give a single clue about employees, you will always be nothing more than a production resource, easily flushable.

Management look like they have no idea where the company should be going, improv club with nice cars and expensive suits.

The company makes money on existing cutomers and have no future vision.

Bad management, toxic people, the salaries and benefits are quite good to try to keep people from running away, but just have a look at how high the turnover is.

If you are a rookie or a not so good developer looking for a job with poor opportunities but with a bit higher salary, if you have no team spirit and don't give a clue about the company you work for and only go to work for the money, this is a place for you.

Since I joined Genetec, I was really pleased with the industry and the company’s vision to enhance physical security and help reduce public crime and other risks. However, I felt that career growth was limited unless you joined as an intern. It seemed like the company gave more priority to promoting employees who started as interns rather than those who joined with prior experience.

I already discussed this with HR and several senior developers. After spending almost half a decade doing the same type of work that I had become used to, I felt my career path was at risk and that I was not developing professionally.

On top of that, Genetec has now started requiring employees to return to the office—first two days a week, and next month three days a week—and I believe it will eventually become full-time in the office. This transition is something I cannot manage, and it has already affected my performance.

Interesting work with modern technologies. Good place to start your career and grow.
The work is fast-paced depending on your team. Not for everyone. 

Company has a culture of long meetings. It can sometimes be long for nothing (i.e. endless debates and knowledge sharing on technology/software which does not involve everyone)

Although I think it is a good company, I don't think it is a company to stay for the long term. The benefits are average for the size of the company: pay, health insurance and the number of vacations paid (3 weeks standard) are all average. They also implemented a mandatory 2 days per week at the office and I wouldn't be surprise if they increase the amount.

Every level 1 techs are overloaded with work and doing too much multitasking. You gotta do the shift for after hours for long time and you have to stay at night if you get a call even 1 min before your shifts ends. And if you come late next morning then you get a warning. Management is there to make your life difficult and threatening you to put you outside.There must be a reason there is always hiring in a Technical support department. After worked in Technical support department for a year i am out for good.

Lack of security of the job, always under stress that will lose the job, poor integration,  enclave spirit of small groups and difficult to penetrate.  The managers dismiss people under mood, in same way that they hire them.  Totally lack of professionalism. Gossips about other groups in company and former employees. 
Not worth to take the risk despise the facade advantages. Those advantages could be found in other places.  Worst treatment that I had in my more of 10 years of career.
Only if you want a bad experience.

At first glance, this company looks good but once you actually start doing some work, you soon come to realize there's some managers that have all the power and they will crush you if you disagree or or suggest possible improvements. No one cares about doing great work anymore, it's all about saving your own skin. The tech stack is old and there is no innovation whatsoever. I hate it here to be honest, worst place I've ever worked at.

Good for starting your career but not great to grow within

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is no good evaluation for team leaders and managers.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
If you find a good team to work then it is a good experience. The company has grown to an extend that politics play a big rule rather than many other important factor such as technical competencies.

Little to no room for creativity, albeit there are some legitimate reasons for it (backward compatibility, clients using older versions, just to name a few). Naturally with such constraints you are not encouraged to think out of the box and explore new ways of doing. I'd even say that's part of the culture. Huge emphasis on value and delivering working products. Maintenance, code refactors, not so much, unless absolutely needed.
Pick your fights wisely.

Genetec is an incredible workplace with a truly diverse and welcoming team. The people are what make it special collaborative, knowledgeable, and genuinely supportive of each other. I learned so much during my time there, both technically and professionally. If you are looking for a place where you can grow, be challenged, and work alongside talented people from all walks of life, Genetec is the place to be. Highly recommend!
