As a leader in the gardening industry, Greenland offers a diverse and engaging work environment. I started at Greenland knowing very little about gardening and had the opportunity to learn from Greenland's many experts. They treat you like an individual instead of another cog in the machine and allow you to utilize your natural skill sets while on the job. This was a great job while I was in university as they allow for flexibility in your schedule, with additional hours offered in the summer months. They were also able to offer workplace advancement after I finished my education. The people at Greenland are one-of-a-kind and I formed so many connections that have lasted outside of the workplace. They are one of the only places I've worked that actually feels like a family. A great job for any stage in your life!

Amazing place to work.  Management was always encouraging and respectful.  Very generous with staff discounts and little extras such as pizza days, Christmas dinners and end of summer parties.  Easy to talk to management if you have an issue with something and they are always open to new ideas.  Best place ever to work at.  They are also quick to recognize when a customer mentions that you did something above and beyond your regular duties.  Some routine cleaning is expected but nothing difficult or physically demanding.  Easy to keep busy during slower times.  
Lots of training is offered and ongoing.  I would definitely recommend this as a place to work.  Lots of flexibility in the amount of hours that you want.
This is a family owned company and you are treated like family.  The work place culture is positive and genuine.  The most enjoyable part was the customer service and interaction with other staff.  

Having worked at Greenland Garden Centre for two summers on the tree planting/ delivery crew, I was trained well on exactly what the expectations were for any given task. There was room to grow and learn new tasks within my role. My co-workers and management team were amazing, very encouraging, and very willing to coach me through any problems that may have arisen. Each and every staff, especially management ensured my sense of value as a staff member and as an individual person. If ever I did not know something the management team would always take time out of their day to thoroughly educate me in a non-judgmental way. Had there been room to grow professionally when I was there, I would more than likely still be with Greenland Garden Centre. At the end of the day, you get out what you put in. This was more than just a job, it turned into a community that always had my back.


I started working at Greenland as a summer job when I was 18 years old and in university. I had no intention of staying here after graduating, but 14 years later I'm part of the management team. I came to Greenland because I am passionate about plants and I wanted to work somewhere related to my field. Greenland became a career for me because I was given an opportunity to showcase my talents and grow. This company is a tightly knit group of people who love what we do. We work together every day to create and maintain a beautiful and inspiring place to visit. We strive to provide our customers with the best products and information possible. This is a fast-paced environment and our customers expect a lot of us - we work hard and we have fun doing it.  I have essentially grown up at this place and made life-long friends here, and I couldn't be more grateful. Plant people grow together!

I was brought on to help run the tree and shrub side of their business but got stuck in outdoor operations, asked to remove copious amounts of Christmas decorations in horrendously cold weather.  Management was nowhere to be found and never took any interest in trying to onboard me or help me get adjusted, and just over a month in, I was let go because my abilities with tools and skid-steers was not what they expected.  I was not given a fair chance.  I saw other people working with plants while I was doing things I had no experience with. Management is uncaring, callous, and extremely standoffish.  This is not how you treat people.  Extremely disrespectful and negative experience. Don’t even bother trying to work for them. 

Absolutely adored working for such a strong company built up of inspiring leaders and uplifting staff that are always willing to help and support you. Would always look forward having shifts knowing I would be in such a peaceful environment full of great people and exceptional service. The managers and leaders were very understanding and are very considerate of your well being giving you the peace of mind knowing you are being cared for. All issues involving customers were dealt with in a mature manor and no employee was ever at blame for an uncontrolled situation. Strongly recommend this company to anyone as it had given me an outlook onto what a successful business is like.

I am a multitalented multitasker so there isn't a typical way to describe a work day.  I come to work ready to face a multitude of different questions, perform a variety of tasks and complete many challenges.  The variety of tasks usually involve creative solutions for arranging and displaying merchandise.  Providing excellent customer service, organizing storage spaces.  Everyday is a different day with new challenges.  I have the pleasure of working with a diverse, knowledgable and passionate group of people which makes my job totally enjoyable.

The management was very poor at their roles and would constantly bully the employees out of their jobs. It was a rotating door of employees.
They’re very controlling on what you do and make you pay very little for the amount of work you do.
Health and safety is not a top priority of theirs as they would use mouse infested pillows in the restaurant.

All I can say is I would not recommend this place for anyone.

management is often yelling at and disrespecting staff in front of customers if you make a mistake. extremely toxic work environment. avoid this place. 8/10 of the new cashiers quit within the first week. they expect you to know so much in such a short amount of time and constantly criticize staff. it is the worst place i have ever worked, and i was extremely disappointed in them because as a customer i used to love it there 

i really liked working at greenland because of my co workers. i liked the discount on plants but it could be better. managers and owners are horrible and often put you down. you were expected to “look busy” at all times and were in trouble if not. 
i really hope owners and managers change their ways eventually. value your employees they are the ones that keep greenland a float!
