The actual job here isn't bad. Its the management, blatant favoritism and scheduling that makes this place a nightmare. If you value your sanity and time, stay at an extreme distance and don't touch it with a 50 foot pole.

 "If you don't like the job there's the door" is an extremely common theme here which has led directly to poor morale among employees and as a result you see people come and go all the time. It's a pretty sad state of affairs especially considering most of the people I've worked with are genuinely very cool people. This could be an amazing place to work if the higher ups got out of their ivory tower and actually cared. 

But you get free bread twice a week, so i guess it balances out *shrug*

- Your days off are non-consecutive. (usually Saturday and another day that isn't Friday or Sunday) The only exception to this is if your seniority is 10+ years. Even then people from other shifts and departments can bump you regardless if they're trained to do the job or not.

- Expect to work every. Single. Holiday. This includes Thanksgiving and even possibly Christmas.

- Management often scares their employees with termination if you refuse overtime. Even if it is against the union contract.

- HR is non-existent on nights. If you need them, expect to wait for them to show up (which can be anywhere from 8am-10am. You get off at around 7:30am). pretty ridiculous considering there is 3-4 HR reps. They state that one person will come in on Thursdays (that is if they decide to grace you with their royal presence), but if you're off that day you're out of luck. Often times they are useless to begin with.

- Good luck trying to get day/afternoon shift. You'll often be relegated to nights because seniority.

- Seniority is a joke, and not a very good one. Seniority can be reset seemingly at random. 

- It is extremely common for management/HR to give you the good ol' Canada Bread "We'll get back to you" then not hear from them. Even bothering them multiple times across months gets you nowhere.

- Very common for pay to be incorrect. Even in the past few months, there have been plant wide pay errors which resulted in employees have to pay the money back (Which is understandable) however rather than having an option to pay the full amount, they decide to siphon a percentage weekly from your check. Also very common for them to short you a day or two and pay you the following week (if they decide to remember) bonus points if you have to have your supervisor play email tag with payroll. Sometimes you may never actually see that money because you'll get the Canada Bread "We'll get back to you."

- Training consists of putting new people in random spots and letting them figure it out without and proper knowledge. On top of that, rather than having you do a job consistently so you actually know what you're doing, you get put into another spot doing a different job so you're lost all over again. Some days you may be in a different department entirely.

- The people who actually know how to their job are the go to for supervisors to dump extra work. They are expected to do a job meant for more than one person and often times expected to do half the job of others. While the other people who stand around and talk for /LITERALLY/ an hour or two never get talked to. On top of that, this person is the first person to be disciplined if something were to go wrong.

I'll stop here because honestly I could go on for hours as to why this place is bad. There are better jobs than this out there. Skip this one and you'll thank me for it, I can promise you that.

First off, Human Resources was outstanding during the interview and onboarding and are absolutely blameless - the one redeeming quality as its all downhill from there.

Training is virtually non-existant. Was just handed off to my section supervisor who proceeded to just throw me on whatever random task needs to be done that day. No consistent training, no designated trainer (that was promised), no organization or co-ordination whatsoever. This is a common complaint and they know it (was even mentioned by management in a meeting) but they choose to ignore it. 

Management/workplace culture is more akin to an Orwellian dystopia than a conductive, supportive environment. Cameras everywhere including lunch rooms and the likes - they dont even trust employees to wash their hands choosing instead to use a locking turnstile system. Everything seems to run on organized chaos at best. Also during previously mentioned meeting the head production manager of the plant spent more time berating and condescending employees than anything worthwhile - apparently calling in sick 3 times a year is "unacceptable" and "unprofessional" regardless of circumstances.

And finally, safety. Walkies travelling everywhere at dangerous speeds is a big problem. Having to move giant stacks of trays (some of which are ~10 feet tall or more with enough weight to do some serious damage) by hand/hook is also a constant danger - witnessed 3 fall in a span of days. Management knew about this but elected to increase the height of stacks even further to save money on shipping.

The hardest part of the job was just equipping myself for a day and figuring out where to go/what to do with little to no direction or training. The most enjoyable part of the job was writing my resignation letter.

You are a (easily replaceable) number, coworkers all seem miserable/fed up, and management fails horribly at training and cares only about extracting every last bit of profitability regardless of human toll. Stay away its not worth it.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of working at the company is definitely the culture. Bimbo Canada places a very strong emphasis on both safety and people. In fact, meetings with more than four people are required to begin with a short safety and culture discussion, which really shows how seriously the company takes employee well-being and workplace values.

The people are also incredibly welcoming, supportive, and respectful. From my experience, there is a genuine sense of teamwork and collaboration across departments. Overall, this has by far been the best company I’ve worked for in terms of culture and how employees are treated.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part for me is working remotely, as it can sometimes create anxiety around whether I am performing well enough or meeting expectations. Without being physically present with the team, it is easy to overthink your performance at times.

That said, the leadership team does a great job of supporting employees and maintaining open communication. They regularly check in to ensure people are doing well, and if improvements are needed, feedback is communicated professionally and constructively. The environment is very welcoming toward growth and continuous improvement rather than criticism.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment at Bimbo Canada is very people-oriented, collaborative, and safety-focused. The company places a strong emphasis on respect, inclusion, and employee well-being, which is reflected in day-to-day interactions across teams. Leadership encourages open communication and constructive feedback, making it easier for employees to ask questions, learn, and improve.

The culture is also highly centered around safety. Even regular meetings often begin with short safety and culture discussions, which shows how deeply embedded these values are within the organization. Overall, the environment feels supportive, professional, and welcoming, with a strong sense of teamwork across departments.

Depending on the plant, the supervisor could treat the employees like drones and not like human beings. Overall, it was an okay experience.

A typical day was repetitive, the areas to clean would be different product lines, the floor, and the machines at the product lines; sign in, assigned an area, begin cleaning, break at 0900, resume work at 1000, return to assigned area, clean until 1200 Lunch break. Hour lunch break, resume to designated area at 1300, clean until 1500, sometimes asked to stay later until 1700, but regularly work ends at 1500.

From this place I have learned of many different cultural differences due to the different ethnicities present at work. I was trained in WHIMIS and in operation of a Floor Scrubber. I learned of how bagels and different breads are made, Communication skills improved as well as time management. 

Management was alright, they would make sure that you were not over worked.

Co-workers were pleasant to work with, different ethnicity brought forth different perspectives on concepts, many philosophical discussions were had. They also had different educations and upbringings, showing me the different ways things could be completed in the workplace and outside of the workplace.

The hardest part of the job was cleaning the cheese line. It is a line where all the products with cheese are brought through, cheese covers everything, it is a day old, and dry and smells horrible. Two power washers were required to hose off the line, three floor men were needed to squeegee the water into drains.

The most enjoyable part of the job was when you were assigned to clean the floors, most relaxed job, four-six man job, one person would put chemical on the floor, another would use a power wash, and two or one would squeegee, while one would use the floor scrubber.

I was hired for a part time position, and it was quickly made clear that part time wasn't an option. either you are doing one shift a week or you are doing full time and overtime. Over time is offered to full time employees before on call employees are given a shift. 
in my first weeks I was told I wouldn't get trained if I wasn't working full time. 
Now that the summer is over it's nearly impossible to walk into work without hearing from older employees that everyone is going to get fired. the work environment is negative. 
benefits are reviewed once yearly, and you need an average of 30+ hrs a week to receive them. Because benefits are reviewed in January if you are hired in December and work 30+ hrs for four weeks you will have benefits for the entire year. BUT if you are hired in February, even if you do 50+ hrs a week you will not have benefits until the year after.

if you manage to get a posting (basically a position with a 3-12month schedule) you will be called to work any time you are not in the factory, then management will tell you that if you miss three call in shifts that they can fire you (they cant). 
but even with that said if you want to work here, they hire a whole bunch of people for the night shift every summer, the night shift is then terminated in the fall, and all employees are placed in the "part time pool" or put on-call.

I enjoyed working here. You can get along with lots of people here. Above minimum wage salary , lots of benefits , training if you're new is awesome since you will be spending alot of time in one macine, but when you already know a lot of machines they seem to borrow you out during your training to do other machines(training interruptions) . The company is always open to suggestions and comments they dont shy about what you think. I've seen improvement from when I was hired. Theyve learned to study on what or what they can improve on. Its a growing company. What I hate about the company is how they give unhealthy schedules to swing shift people(those who doesn't have a post or regular schedule) You only get a permanent schedule if you win a posting which is usually chosen by seniority. You against the people whove been working here for a long time. You'll have a messy unhealthy schedule when you're new or at the bottom of seniority. They can put you morning noon and night shift in a week, it will mess your sleep if you have a busy schedule at home or you have other activities in your life. Work here if you don't have other things to do since you will be scheduled anytime they want if youre new and dont acquire a posting.

it could be a nice place but the work culture is not at par with what is expected of a canadian company. 63 % of  workers are  former seeasonal (form outside Canada) workers with very little knwoledge of  English. thay are so territorial and protect each other. new workers are starved of valuable information and reported for minor mistakes. Most of the trainers are not good in english and  are not well trained to be trainers. they terrerorise the recruits during trainining and sometimes uses their native language. you could tell they are mocking you. Most new comers dont last because they feel humiliated by the majority group. Secondly Canada bread equipment breaks down easily during production. the senior workers have the tendency of trying to fix it on their won instead of calling the mechanic. this is dangerous. when new comers try to call the mechanic as were told during triaining they are perceived as lazy and other forms of negativity is thrown at them. the last contract they signed made me leave. it cuts health benefits by 20%, gave the company the power to send workers home when business was slow and they can call me anytime to  come even if  had left 8 hours ago.
Glory Days Are over at this company. ONLY IF you are desperate will you stick around

No job  security. Although the workplace is unionized, the  union will protect and help the employees.  Some employees have been fired out without any valid reason and  proper investagation. Waste of money paying for union.

The management is higly political work environment, which limits opportunities for growth and skill development and a lot of human camera which have  to be more careful that make story so you will be negative to managaement.
 Even if you have previous PLC experience, you may not be given the opportunity to work with PLCs or apply your skills which loses your confidence. There is also very little training provided, making it difficult to advance professionally.

Other than that,  there  are also some people I appreciate both the maintenance and production departments are friendly, supportive, and easy to work with and are willing to share their knowledge and lend a hand when needed, which makes day-to-day work more enjoyable. Thank you for them. 

Canada bread is a place where team work is paramount. We move in sync with each other. You are never left wondering how a big problem is going to be resolve. We work together as one from the top to the bottom position. Each person is respected and treated as an equal. There are equal opportunities for every person. The environment is friendly and home away from home at Canada Bread.We look out for each and treat each other as the family we are--  celebrating any special moment that occurs in each others lives. No one goes unnoticed. The hardest part at times is leaving and knowing that the day is a hard one for who is going to be left behind. So we don't leave, we stay until all issues are settled. Most enjoyable part of my job is just going to it. Having socials with my co-workers and feeling the love coming in an going out of the doors. We have free breakfast each day. Also we are allowed  two free bread per day.

Looking over the reports from the previous shifts, ensuring we are on budget, going out to the various departments and talking with the people.
I learned strict budget controls, better understanding of various ethnic groups, their needs and wants. Improving on equipment, Health & Safety, Environmental Laws.
Each Operational Manager has a different style and by listening to each person you learn very quickly what is expected from you.
All people are my co-workers and each person has a story, if you take the time to listen.
Hardest part of the job is always letting someone go. You travel down a road with them, disciplining as required hoping they will change their ways, if not then they choose their destiny.
Encouraging fellow workers to improve on themselves and the quality of our product. Training is vital and at the same time enjoyable as it improves both the quality of life for the people and the company.
